I think the audience was really lazy that year. No one got a standing ovation. Maybe it had something to do with the writers strike; everything was austere and toned down. And ever since this ceremony, everyone seems to get a standing ovation: Octavia Spencer, Mo'nique, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock..
@Danny-is5if10 жыл бұрын
He doesn't need a standing ovation, everyone who has seen his movies will all agree that hes the best actor of all time, bar none. O yeah, Robert Duval: belongs on the list too! For The Godfathers and The Apostle and so much more. This list is ofcourse not definitive...For example I also like Sam Rockwell, Kevin Bacon & Christian Bale in a lot of their work. And did I really forget an honorable mention for Jamie Foxx as Ray, and Edward Norton in Primal Fear & American History X?!

You should watch angel heart and rumble fish with Mickey rourke. He has always been amazing. He just went missing for a while.

I'm so glad they played one of the best songs from the soundtrack while he was walking up. That whole score is phenomenal!

DDL has a striking different personality in real life than the character he played. This asserts that this man can fathom any depth to 'be' the character. Simply a legend, period.

Kartikeya Dutta I thought the same about Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler(:
@KartikeyaDutta9 жыл бұрын
Michael Colby Yeah. He is one of the best among the actors of his age group. Prisoners, Enemy, Nightcrawler were gold.
@TrueIronMaidenFan9 жыл бұрын
Kartikeya Dutta I agree, like Daniel he completely disapeared in Nightcrawler leaving us only with Lou Bloom. I think its one of the best performances ever, and him not getting nominated was criminal.

Two roles that I consider the best acting performances of all time: 1. Heath ledger (the dark knight) 2. Daniel Day Lewis (there will be blood).

The best performances ever? Did you start watching films recently? I think there are loads of performances that are better.

i seen a lot of performances, and this two are the best that I seen
@MrAkashvj9610 жыл бұрын
Richard Black They are very very good performances particularly the one by Daniel Day Lewis but there are so many performances which are much much superior to Ledger's.

In real life DDL is a very English gentleman but in the movies he always transforms. What a great actor he is.

amionutube His mother was English and his father was of Anglo-Irish Protestant descent. Daniel Day Lewis was born in England and has described himself on several occasions as a "middle class Englishman". DDL is English.

It’s a shame his father never lived to see him achieve what he’s achieved. Very few great actors are as grounded and sincere as this man

DDL is one of the most prominent actors ever seen. After having seen Gangs Of New York, In The Name Of The Father and There Will Be Blood, which was bone-shattering to the core, I can say that the guy is haunting either in real life and in his portrayal of his characters he seems to merge with. All of the people who learned him how to act are the ones to praise. This man is a true gift for arts. If I see him one day, I would say "Thank you, M.Day Lewis, for defining what cinema is about: make us feel and make the characters real. Thank you so much for giving mesmerizing performances. Hope we'll see you in MORE movies!" Too bad he hasn't done much since Lincoln.

DiCaprio, Washington, Hanks, Bridges, Nolte with the likes of Gable and Tracy? You my friend are drunk. There are so many names i could blurt out before these people even came into recognition - James Stewart, Humphrey Boggart, Jack Lemmon, Buster Keaton, Paul Newman, Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, Orson Welles, John Barrymore, Robert Montgomery, Gary Cooper, John Wayne, William Powell etc. etc. etc.

He is so humble and kind... yet, probably the best actor of our time (if not of all times). Daniel Day Lewis has won three Oscars and he truly has deserved all of them! There are other legendary actors (Al Pacino, Robert de Niro), but I would dare to put Daniel Day Lewis on top when it comes to acting. He is always different, and he IS always the person he plays! Unbelievable talent, never seen anything like him!
