17:50 I can explain this. You see when the previous upper six turn Gyutaro and Ume into demons, Gyutaro made his sister into a demon because of his decision. She didn't have one because she was burn and didn't consent. He wanted his little sister to survive like any big brother would. And here's another... You see both are standing apart in different light when they are in limbo, well because Daki was 13 years old and didn't consent she was still pure me despite her crimes as a demon, she was offer to go to heaven but didn't. She choose to be with her brother in Hell, because she love him that much.

The thing about Nezuko's flames was already explained. It cannot burn humans, only demons and demon constructs/blood demon arts. It burns the threads of Rui, and it affects the blood demon art of the sleep demon, remember Tanjiro was on fire inside his dream, Nezuko could burn trough it. She could also safely remove the ropes that tied the dream invaders and the gang.

daki was able to return to her human form because she never willingly became a demon. it was her brothers choice she was basically almost dead so in that way she was not responsible for being a demon. also the master was saying it had been 100 years since they had defeated an upper moon. they released a music focused trailer for the next season and the next hashiras are shown to be the mist hashira and the love hashira. nezuko has always been able to burn demons so it does make sense that her blood demon art could burn away the poison. it didnt heal their injuries.

Yea we saw Nezuko use her blood demon art to vanquish Rui's threads and then saw her use it again on the Mugen train to burn through Enmu's spell to wake up the boys. She is the perfect weapon to have at these fights.

Nezuko demon ability can burn and neutralize any demon art, just like how she did with the webs against Rui the spider demon. And since the poison was part of the demon art she can burn it away.

I should tell you why Daki stabbed the samurai. You see the samurai was client and since this is the red light district it's implied that Daki was about to be prostituted at 13 years old to him. But the man talked about her brother and disrespected him and well....she stabbed him in the eye. And if you remember her fight with Nezuko when she screamed in the flame, Daki has a big fear of fire because she was set on fire.

But Gyutaro was regretting that he taught her to "collect from people" up front, so I think she was demanding payment before sex, and the samurai probably refused and tried to force her. It's the "entertainment district" so I thought it was obvious she was getting into sex work, due to their extreme poverty. The old woman also confirmed it.

It has a symbolic meaning to "collect from them (the world) before they collect from you (get taken advantage of)" = "be the predator (powerful), not the prey (powerless/victim)." It's a survival philosophy of the poor. That's why Gyutaro regrets not teaching her to be quiet and obedient, because if she was and stayed silent while the samurai disrespected Gyutaro, that same samurai could've made Daki his future wife and she would've lived a comfortable life.

The fact I like is Tanjiro didnt kill gyutaro all by himself by just a powerup. It took both the powerup and immense amount of teamwork and luck.

A little background on their names: Gyutaro named himself after his profession. "Gyu" is a word for men who convince guests to visit women in the red light district and then collect the money. "-taro" is just a general suffix for male names. Daki's name, "Ume", means plum. The Japanese name for Syphillis is "Baidoku", "Bai" "Ume" are alternative ways to read the same character. Also, Gyutaro probably suffered from congenital syphillis, which happens when a mother is pregnant while being infected. The symptoms are inflammated gums, crooked teeth, deformed skeletal and muscle structure and rashes that can leave blotches behind. All found in Gyutaro

The demons backstory really hammers in the idea that no one is really born evil, there's always circumstances that lead to them being how they are. It's pretty interesting that Tanjiro also made a comparison of him and Nezuko could have been like the demons if things were different. Demon Slayer is one of those shows that makes you consider a whole lot of things with these characters.

IDK it seems some are truly evil while most are victims who turned around on the world. Most demons are victims of the disease while a few were always bad. This is why some demons can go into the light despite their crimes as they were victims whose minds were corrupted by muzans influence as it alters peoples minds. It's why umi/daki could go to the light while her brother couldn't as he had committed many dark actions prior to turning and choose to turn without regretting his actions, as he said his only regret was his sister not his crimes.

The reason she was in her human form and had the option to go to heaven, and him in demon form and only option was to go to hell, is because he was the one who chose for both of them to become demons. Even tho she killed maybe hundreds, she did it as a demon, which she didn't choose to be, so in human form, she didn't have a say in the heinous "crime" of being transformed into a demon

I first found you when you started your Demon Slayer season 1 reactions, and look how much has changed since then! This was super enjoyable as your reactions always are, but watching through season 2 with you guys has actually been really special on top of that what with it being a mirror for the beginning of your reaction and anime journey! I was impressed way back then in season 1 with how earnestly and seriously you took this form of media which was pretty new to you both, and I remember thinking how genuinely and intelligently you approached it; trying to learn as much as you could, taking notes, speculating on the workings of the world, etc., and all of those qualities were shining in your reactions to season 2 as well. So yeah, thank you both for being the cool people you are, and here's to season 3 when it comes! P.S. My understanding of Nezuko being able to burn the poison away was as follows: her Blood Demon Art lets her combust blood, like we saw last season. As was said a couple of times in this series it seems to only affect other demons. Since the kama (the little scythe/sickle things) were all weird and fleshy I assumed that they, and therefore the poison, were made of the brother's blood. As such, I'm guessing Nezuko was exclusively igniting the demon blood in Tengen/Inosuke/Tanjiro's systems and therefore burning out the poison - none of the rest of their wounds were healed in any way, just the poison was gone. I don't know any of this for sure, I am in the same boat as you guys here, but that was just how I assumed it was working.

4:11 lmao, Nezuko petting her cushion self tripped me up Her Blood Art can burn other Demons' techniques, and it doesn't hurt humans. We saw that with Rui's spider threads in S1, and Enmu's cursed sleeping ropes in the movie. The poison was part of Gyutaro's Blood Art, so she did the same thing here. I don't thing Daki/Ume was _named after_ the disease, but her name was coincidentally related. 梅毒 (baidoku) means "syphilis". The first kanji alone, 梅 (ume) is the fruit "plum". Her human self was only 13. That's probably why she cried easily and behaved like a brat, despite living for over a century (how long the current Upper Moons have held their ranks) as a Demon. Also, the discussion between the samurai and lady shows that they were targeting Gyutaro from the start. I guess Ume heard them and stabbed him for that reason. About their appearances in the "afterlife". I think that because Ume wasa rather innocent person before turning into a Demon, she could go to "heaven"/rebirth, with the light. Whereas her brother was headed for "hell" with the dark flames, so he kept his demonic look.

Heh, I like how the entire point of the second half of this season is the contrast between Tanjirou+Nezuko vs Gyutaro+Daki, and Tanjirou even saying flat out, that "Those two could be me and Nezuko if things had turned out different" basically a very solid argument (backed by both criminology, psychology and statistics) that the reason people end up bad isn't because they are morally weak, but because they are raised in circumstances where morality is contraproductive to survival. Basically, no, you dont have the power "to turn things around." At least not without external help. Gyutaro didn't get that external help. Tanjirou did, and besides, Tanjirou came from a happy, stable household that didnt starve, he had what in philosophy is referred to as "Moral Luck." His circumstances not only allowed, but fostered his morality. His survival depended on fitting in with a society that welcomed him. Gyutaro's survival depended on him to steal and hurt people in a society that despised him because how he was born, and never once welcomed him. The point being, In their shoes, you would do exactly the same thing :)

Ume was pure in her human life, she was pliable and impressionable. She enjoyed making people happy, wheras Gyutaro enjoyed making people as miserable as he was. That's why she looked human in the afterlife and Gyutaro still looked like a demon. A sad missed detail is in the manga when Gyutaro starts carrying Ume with him to Hell, he transforms back into his human self just before he enters the flames. Implying that Gyutaro will get his own redemption in his second life, and was at last able to let go of his resentment if he could be with his sister.

To clarify, nezuko didn't heal but used her ability to burn the poison or things related to the demons. Thats why the poison was removed but they were still bloody and injured.

I like the design of the former upper moon 6. Such pretty eyes and fabulous hair… and great VA too. Considering they said Daki and Gyutaro were the first upper moons to be killed by demon slayers in over 100 years (not sure exactly how many) the likely outcomes are: either he moved up in ranking or got killed/demoted by Muzan himself. Unless Muzan got rid of him or he took a sunbath or something he’s probably still around.

This is just a guess, but I imagine Gyutaro probably could have gone into the light too if it wasn't for the "I'm going to become a murderous demon no matter how many lives I live" thing. People say Rui went to hell, but he clearly turns human again. The flames that implied hell were from the embers of his disintegrating body. Specifically in this show, it seems like the doors of hell are locked from the inside.

I don't think Tengen "stopped his heart" like Gyutaro claimed he did, because if you look back at episode 9 when they revealed the state he was in, his hand that was intact that held the sword... the knuckles faced up and then they showed him again when Tanjiro was apologizing an his hand was flipped. So he slowed down his heart rate just as Zenitsu did in season 1 and played dead, but because Gyutaro was in a hurry to save Daki he didn't make sure he was dead. The writer also used the myth of Ninjas or ancient martial artist being able to shift their internal organs as part of Inouske's ability... which was a cool thing I thought since Inouske always did extraordinarily weird things with his flexible body.

Nezuko's Blood Demon Art was used in a similar way before. She was able to burn the spider-boy's webs, so it seems like her ability is to burn anything that comes from a demon's body, like webbing or poison blood. So, it was basically the same thing she did back then, burning the poison even inside their bodies. I only hope she can use it on the Demon Slayer's leader before he dies. The spreading purple veiny skin looks the same on him as it did on Inosuke and Tengen, so I think he's poisoned as well, just a lot slower. Hopefully it can work on him too. I'm pretty sure the former Upper 6 is still around. It wouldn't make much sense to show him and then say he died a long time ago.

It's been a while but I believe that the concept for hell in the show is based off of the Buddhism view? If that is true then the idea of going to hell doesn't mean it's eternal damnation but rather you are cleansing your sins and thus can be reborn again. So the symbolism of the brother and sister going to hell together shows that once they can overcome their sins, they can both be reborn and thus hopefully have a better life than a previous life. Granted it might take a very long time but at least they have a chance for happiness together

Ume (aka Daki) had the choice to go towards the light because she didn't choose to become a demon, it was Gyutaro that chose on their behalf since she was on the verge of death. I feel that with Nezuko, its her blood demon art that burns away at demons. Remember when she was fighting Daki and Daki herself was being burned and couldn't regenerate that damage as fast (and, no surprise that Daki hates being burned, seeing how in life she was burned head to toe!), so I feel that Nezuko's art can burn away the demon blood itself, so its not exactly "healing" per-se.

Hey, if you want to make the backstory of the demon brothers even worse: Ume stabbed the samurai guy probably because he tried to SA her. Those hairpins were usually used as a weapon for women to defend themselves. She obviously already worked like that and there was no issue before, so that samurai guy must have done something especially bad for Ume to react like that.

I think the reason why Gyutaro was in demon form at the end and Daki was human, while they were in "hell" is because like Gyutaro said, he is a demon. Thats just who he is. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey guys, so the Upper rank 6 we see in the ep during Daki and Gyutaro’s back story is called Doma….he is currently the upper rank 2 demon of the 12 Kizuki and was the demon who killed Shinobu’s older sister and former Flower Hashira Kanae….and imo after reading the manga, Doma is one of the most evil and psychotic villains of any anime/manga I’ve ever read or seen. A real nasty piece of work

For someone who've read Season 3/Swordsmith Village Arc in the manga, let me just say that it will be straight up fire! It was sooo gooood! One part in it almost gave me an heart attack and actually had me take a break before continue reading. Not going to spoil it for anime-onlys of course, but for those who read the manga, all I'll say is; "Good morning!" and all of you will most likely know what I mean, lol I just can't WAIT to see how the Gods over att Ufotable will animate it!

Reason why Ume/Daki's Soul remains in "Human Form" is that she Supposed to be "Dead" by then and Gyutaro wasn't "Dead" he dies only after being a Demon and it was him Turning his "Dying" Sister into a demon with him. So Ume being in Human soul makes sense. Also its just to break apart show Ume was suppose to go to "Heaven" and Gyutaro goes to "Hell" Allegedly "Forcing/Turning" Ume into a demon along with Him doing all the Deeds.

I think Daki was going to heaven because she didn't have a choice in becoming a demon. Gyutaro made the choice so he was hell bound, but his sister loved him so much she'd rather follow him to hell than go to heaven alone. Remember this show would be awesome if they were just "EVIL VILLAINS".... The depth of the characters is what makes this show incredible!

Nezuko wasn't doing any healing at all. She can't do that. Nezuko's flames are similar to sunlight. It purifies anything demonic. That's why daki couldn't heal from her burns until her brother showed up, and also why nezuko could burn away gyutaro's last attack.

Gyutaro, who said he would be a demon no matter how many times he was reborn. Even after he went to hell, he was a demon. On the contrary, Ume had the appearance of a human being.There he realizes that I should not be with her. Gyutaro goes to hell. The human figure tells her to go to heaven. However, Ume chooses Taro Kaoru over heaven. The back view of the two of them heading to hell,Gyutaro, has returned to his human form.

Daki didn't take on a younger form. She went back to her human form because her sins as a demon were forgiven and she could go to heaven. Gyutaro was already a murderer before he became a demon so he stayed a demon in death and had to go to hell.

Gyutaro can't go to Heaven because he willingly chose to become a demon... Ume(Daki) was unconscious so Gyutaro made the decision, to be a demon, for her therefore she was given a chance to go to Heaven
