"Live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse" - Gronky Tyson: C-130 driver. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE !!! 😁 (Remember the parable of the man who left 3 workers 1 piece of silver, each before he left on a trip. Upon his return, he asked each for the coins in return. His anger was with the one who did nothing but protected the coin and didn't try to use it for growth)

Gonky, small-ish world sir!! You mention the Aussie Super Hornet transitions, and how you participated. As a 16 year F-111 Fixer here, was honored to go to the Australian Air Force F-111C Decommissioning ceremony in Dec 2010 at Amberley, Queensland, and saw the Vark and the Super Hornet side by side on the ramp and in the air. All the Aussie F-111 pilots I knew were outstanding guys, including Air Marshal Davies. It's amazing to me that you were part of the transition work with that process, again, small-ish world.

The "Russian shovels and washing machines" reference always pops out because our beloved European Commission president Ursula von der Crazy stated that Russia was out of missile parts and was using washing machine chips and the boots on the ground have no weapons nor ammo so they charge using shovels . This was 2 years ago and since then Putin has also suffer 2 fatal strokes and 3 heart attacks...and this is why we are tacking the proverbial pl$$

People calling you guys cowards are clearly bereft of whatever passed for sanity in their pointy little heads. Personally I thought your reasons for not going to Ukraine to fly Vipers made all kinds of sense. You guys are used to a certain level of support and infrastructure and command, most of which you'd not have over there. Everyone thinks fighter pilots are all gung ho kick the fires light the tires (😂) but nobody seems to recognize that what it takes to fly combat jets is _a freaken cool head and rational thought._ Which you displayed. Joke em if they can't take a f.....ummm ....a DUCK!😂😂🐍

And what's the point of a fine when they're a public company? They're still going to hit their numbers. So realistically the only person that's getting fined is the government who's imposing the fine and ultimately the taxpayers...

All you have to do in this day and age is be stupid and bring an unsecure laptop with you on a foreign business trip to a conference, and every ITAR sensitive article on that laptop, whether accessed or not, can be a violation. The other issue is when Aerospace hires Chinese (or other country's) engineers that have been here for years, living the American dream and they get homesick and are never heard from again, along with their intellectual property. It's the world we live in.

I'm behind the stream right now, but training at slow speed has minimal utility. In fighting, if you're not at full speed, full power, you will never have good timing. This is not to mention handling the adrenaline that goes with actually doing something dangerous.

The tactics of thr soviet union are significantly different from that of Western militaries. Not only is Ukraine trying to transition from soviet tactics and equipment they are not ready (basic training for Ukraine aircrew was soviet not western), as you both pointed out, when things start unspooling, you resort to your basic training and culture, not what you learned in 6 months.

Re Americans volunteering in Ukraine. Yes there are Americans volunteering to fight in Ukraine. Some have been fighting for two years, there is an American nurse who has been working as an emergency nurse/combat medic for a while now. Last check, she's been there since late 2022. The word is that the Ukrainians would rather have US Marines over ex Delta Force or other SF bro's. The SF folks are considered too fragile and unreliable, first to quit because they don't have the logistics, on call artillery, or air support and near immediate evac and have issues being on the receiving end of russian artillery shelling,
@tomwilson10062 ай бұрын
SF and JSOC guys are too used to being the best equipped, best funded, and best supported, with almost every asset at their disposal. Take those things away, and I can totally see them whining like crazy.

Unfortunately, one lost yet fighter in war is not a big deal, even one out of six (?) active F16s. Just something to be expected. With time the F16s together with the Swedish Awacs will become an important part of the Ukraine defense. I listened to an old Swedish fighter pilot that started flying about 1945. At that time, in the few years before they got their first jet fighters, the Swedish airforce was losing one pilot a week killed in crashes. And it was not in wartime, but in an expansion time for the airforce (became one of the largest fleets in the world in the 50s).
@jcollins86392 ай бұрын

Metric is, What the Imperial fanbois use, when they can't divide or multiply any further. "Thousand miles" is "metric use" of an imperial unit of measurment. Imperials don't get "a Quarter Bank account" in a british Bank. or "Quarter pound" of dollar bills. As a metric user, i for example get confused by imperial weights. "Gauge" is relative to pounds, Yet also used is oz in fluid and dry. and grains. Miles for Land, but not the sea (needs to be NAUTICAL miles again, sigh).The bloody Hexadecimal system is Satan's contribution to misunderstanding in my humble opinion. And don't get me started on Temperatures. It's just a matter of simplicity for me. Why square, or root everything, if you can just Divide and Multiply? It's like baking egg shaped pies instead of Round or Square ones to me. We can go from nano, micro, mili, centi, deci, Meters Kilometers, and everything is dividable by 10, 100, or 1000. it's Roman Imperial, if you like (with a great contribution from India. as the 0 was invented there). In my opinion, The greatest flaw we have though is our scheduling system. our Calendar is just crazy. From a physical perspective, we have the moon circling through it's phases 13 times a year (which should be months of 28 days, ALWAYS) In order for that to add up to the "desired number of days per year" we only would need to add a FIRST DAY OF THE YEAR which could be "January 0". Daylight savings solved, Different days in a month solved, And our months would ALWAYS start the same day. (Monday for example) So much planning could be simplified, and memorisable, it's unreal, how complicated we make it, just because 13 is a number, supersticious people don't like/do like. Jesus and his 12 disciples would be offended. (Rant over)

Gonkey😂 is way out of date on AirPower. The computer geeks will be the lead in the future. Look at the number of flying squadrons vs the number of com squadrons or computer geek squadrons i.e SPAWARS. The pathway to leadership is a command position. When there are more computer geek orgs then flying squadrons flyers loose. In the Air Force the number of Com (computer geeks) squadrons outnumber the flying squadrons big time! The future is AI driven UAS/ unmanned Ships / submarines ect ect.
