There is no timeline split in the Sonic series anymore, that idea WAS true to the Sonic timeline, there was a split caused by Time Eater which made the current Classic Sonic games take place after the end of the classic era but in a new timeline where Sonic Adventure 1 onwards would never happend, but that was dropped when the idea of "2 worlds" presented by Takashi Iizuka in Sonic Colors and technically in the game itself (saying that Sonic's World and the Human's World were 2 different planets and not just one planet where both species lived) was dropped as well So, Classic Sonic is just the past version of Modern Sonic, after the entire Classic timeline, with Sonic 1, CD, 2, 3 & Knuckles, the Game Gear games, 3D Blast, Sonic R, etc. There is Sonic Generations, Sonic Mania, Sonic Forces (for Classic Sonic), Sonic Mania Plus, the Classic Sonic IDW comics, Sonic Superstars, more Classic Sonic IDW comics, probably the new Classic Sonic games they'll keep releasing, and then Sonic Adventure onwards until Frontiers and the next games they'll be releasing Sometimes I don't like taking the quote "everything is canon" said by Sonic Twitter account too seriously, they normally do a lot of jokes, and that reply was made to the fact that Sonic was in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 as well, I think that quote really fricked up some things, a lot of Sonic games do not make any sense such as Sonic Blast for example, which in that game's plot a Chaos Emerald shatters and it's pieces are 5 small Chaos Emeralds, or other silly games for example SEGASonic Cosmo Fighters or Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car And if it is already hard to fit all those Sonic games, imagine those Sega Superstars and All-Stars Crossover games, and Sonic cameos in other series such as Monkey Ball, Puyo Puyo, Daytona, etc (and the other way around with NiGHTS, Billy Hatcher and AiAi in Sonic Riders and Zero Gravity for example). it makes it really a mess... And not everything is precisely canon, for example, Sonic X since its released was said to be a completly new universe, and until this day it wasn't canonized into the mainline series canon, but it can be considered canon in some kind by what Tails said on TailsTube, where he opened the possibility of multiple alternative universes existing, which not only things such as Sonic X, Sonic OVA, the 90s cartoons, etc. could fit in, but also things such as the Superstars/All-Stars and Sonic crossovers in Monkey Ball could fit in (if the Sonic crossovers in other SEGA games are even part of the story/canon of those universes instead of just a cameo, that is)
