Real fam, if the rumors are true, do you think Jennifer Lopez is the best choice for a musical tribute to Motown?

Im gonna be real. It's about the fact that JLo does not have the range, AND because she isn't black. This is a recurring theme happening where nonblack people are used to be in the spotlight even when it is something about black people. We are constantly getting overshadowed and erased from our own history. . This is how they take over our genres. If you look at history, you will know exactly what I'm talking about.. Also, I don't want to hear people saying blacks are overreacting because even though Hispanic/Latina is not a race & there's plenty black latinos, if a black person was going to do a Selena tribute at a high prestige award show such as the grammy's you would see their community coming out complaining and saying all types of stuff to oppose.

Since this is Motown (huge fan here) they should get a black person to tribute. Motown paved the way for blacks (and other ethnicities) to be in the music entertainment business etc. Or like Loni said get a diverse group of artists to do a tribute.

And just for the simple fact that Motown has a huge impact on black culture, I’d prefer to enjoy that tribute by watching other soulful black artist. That fit the script. Culturally AND ALSO vocally.

Here we go again being politically correct! Why can't black people represent for their own music? Other groups already have more privilege, so for black history month, what is wrong with black women and black men representing black music?! We wouldn't have to have this conversation if this was about any other group. Let's pull Chaka Khan, Fantasia, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson and the list goes on! Too many high achieving black artists to have to search in another pool for Motown representation!

I love selena but Do you think her family would have casted a black or white women to play her??? Of course not because it DOESN'T REPRESENT HER so why would this situation be any different ?? We as black people have a right to speak up on who we feel should represent us and our people and I wish she would stop trying to play coy and address the issue at hand its apparent they are trying to white wash us down the Grammy have been racist for the past couple years its like why even do a tribute in the first place she just needs to sit back and relax

shes an actress and has been in some big movies alongside A list actors. But as far as singing, they should have someone who actually sings that type of music because then motown would've paved the way for that person.

Shucks, Israel Houghton would do an awesome Motown tribute! JLo is a great entertainer; however, Black History Month deserves so much more than what the big networks are giving right now. SMH I blame the political climate. Representation is important for each & every minority group, esp. during the shortest month of the year.

Wrong. If it was Adele, JoJo or Kelly clarkson I bet you people would not mind as much Why? Cause its been done before with white stars doing tina turner and Stevie wonder. J lo cannot sing. And she has a history of saying her music's not black its Latin or stealing and using Mariah Carey's and Ashanti voice. People who know about these artists dont care for j.lo and that's most of the black community. I used to love j.lo until I learned my favorite parts in two of her songs were sung by Ashanti with no credit. Dont assume to know why people don't like her. Just cause some people on the internet say its cause she is black doesn't make it true for everyone.

Everytime it's "Us" they're always going somewhere else to get others to be involved. Lonni is right!! I say- No! Especially not Jennifer Lopez!!!! She can't sing not one bit...her acting skills are tremendous, but her singing is not a good sound for me. And for Motown-this will upset my Soul to the high heavens. Please allow us to do Us!! They've taken too much already...still taking. Leave us be! We Love other Artists and everything but stop intruding and including if it is not requested or asked for. We simply should not allow it!! Jennifer Lopes does not qualify singing and or performing in Motown. When I watch Jennifer Lopez performing...I just don't get her because it's all mimicked. She can endure, however all I see is her mimicking Beyoncé. I am not moved or touched in that special kinda way by her singing as well. Keep acting Jennifer Lopez I do love and admire your works and You are Beautiful. Just lay the mic down!

Can’t sing? Where’s your receipts? Cause ole girl STAY performin’ at the MAJOR award shows, not Soul Train. Does 80 million records sold mean can’t sing? How about the Grammy she won that night? Or does being the 1st female to win the BILLBOARD ICON Award (after legends like Stevie Wonder & Prince) mean she can’t sing? Which one? I NEED TO KNOW. Is it the MTV Michael Jackson Vanguard Award? Cause the Grammy’s asked HER to perform & I don’t believe they even cared about what your petty peanut thoughts of her were. And probably because y’all don’t run anything... other than y’all mouths of course. But you don’t get paid like she does to do it so you may as well get ready for work tomorrow & get some business, LITERALLY!

@@MajesticMyronn this isn't about her color. It's her vocal ability. JLo struggles to sing her own songs. Case in point the Grammys tribute to Aretha included Celine Dion and Christina Aguilera and no one batted an eye at these two pop singers on the stage because they have the vocal chops to pull it off. JLo might be able to pull off Diana Ross but even with that, it may he a struggle because there are some strong notes in some Supreme and Diana Ross songs. Let's be honest, she can't sing the other songs. No one would care if they picked someone vocally talented at the level of Motown. No one complained about Bruno Mars' tribute to Prince.
