The problem with a lot of the younger generation is they wouldn't know a truly great singer if there was s sign with an arrow pointing at them. A lot of today's 'singers' are mediocre but the media play a role in turning these so called 'singers' into being more than they really are. I remember when 'rapper's' first came on the scene and some people actually thought these 'rappers' had talent, when all they were really doing was talking into a microphone. Some of these 'rappers' are multi millionaires, Puff Daddy being one example of many. Yes, there are some recent examples of talented singer's including Whitney Houston, Sia, Celine Dion, Faith Hill and a few other's. Tony Bennett belongs to that golden era along with Frank Sinatra, Matt Munro, Andy Williams, Al Martino and a few other's.

It's great that she had so many emotions involved but she wasn't the right fit. Just as if someone was supposed to do a Reggae Tribute, would you choose a European? No! Because that genre was made by Jamaican's. Yes, it touched many hearts but someone from Jamaica would be a right fit for it. Perhaps Bob Marley's sons, not a European or a Latina.

Would a latin award show have a black woman paying tribute to a latina singer? The answer is no case close. Black women are constantly given the short end of every stick. A lot of people of Latin descent don't even accept their own kind who are of a darker complexion. A black woman could have had an opportunity to shine seeing that 95% of the entertainers on Motown records were in fact black. How disrespectful would it have had been if a black woman would have played Selena looks aside that is the same thing she is doing it. My family is from the islands and I live for Bachata music if I was offered a role I would deny it and let them know that a Latin woman should represent it seeing that they were the originators.

I mean really, did any of the female acts from Motown stick out their butts and wear costumes like that, heck no, quite the opposite. So, yeah people are missing the point and I'd say even you comment about "soulful", plenty of other females move and dress the way she does, nothing soulful about it, more about following what some consider entertainment -

I understand people’s frustrations with proper representation (especially when it comes to race, culture and white wash America putting their spin on things) but no one should pigeon hold someone to a category. Everyone saying that “there was someone better for this”, are absolutely right, but don’t take away from JLO’s heart and character. Or say because you’re ‘this’ you can only do ‘that’.

Jennifer Lopez will all know the bad moments our mother had to go throu young moms and have little ones. Thank you alot for letting humans know what some went thru in our life 😉the memories our mother imprints us. To love one a nother no matter what.🙄.

One thing I will agree to what she said is “ you can’t tell people what to sing , what to listen to etc etc . That part is true HOWEVER , I still don’t believe she was the BEST candidate for this tribute . Music shouldn’t be about race , but that’s just the world( America) we live in today .

Her haters can’t stop her.

Neglo Blaxon yeah, that’s what people don’t get. She’s been exploiting Black culture to her benefit & never once used her platform to BENEFIT the community.

I disagree, you're missing the point of Motown. You have to have the name and music of Motown re-energized with new talent, and not just black talent. It's the secret of Motown's longevity.

@Stono River many, many non- black entertainers performed Motown music: 1. The Beatles 2. Linda Ronstadt 3. Dusty Springfield 5. Barbra Streisand 6. Tom Jones 7. Tony Bennett 8. Lisa Stansfield 9. Dinah Shore 10. Boy George 11. George Michael 12. Adam Ant 13. Bob Dylan 15. The Monkees 16. The Cassidy Brothers 17. Frank Sinatra 18. Etc etc..... The list is endless....you really have no clue that Jennifer Lopez is not, by far, the first non- black performer to do Motown music interpretations? Do you?

Most of these comments are from people who were not around during the Motown era. The women didn't have to be half naked or cha cha cha to hold the audience attention. All the classy black people to chose from and you get a chihuahua to represent black greatness. FOH

Why can’t we all just support one another. She is literally saying it was a dream to do this tribute because she grew up with this music. The performance was wonderful. It had a “Jenny from the block twist” she made it her own. Y’all can see that as a good thing or a bad thing but goodness!!! we need to stop judging and just appreciate that music and art isn’t just directed towards certain groups of people but for everybody! We have the ability to express it in our own way!
@taninkaa Жыл бұрын
Good words,but at least for supporting one another we need intelligence and many ppl dont have it....
@dtrn2545 жыл бұрын
I actually liked J Lo's performance a lot. I am a huge Motown fan and a person of color. You need performances like this to breathe life into Motown interpretations. And to be quite truthful you have few Motown Stars still left, so you need to keep the momentum going with other performers. And yes, you need big name performers. Besides, Berry Gordy wanted J-Lo to perform, so enough said.
@dtrn2545 жыл бұрын
@Anne Jackson I didn't see JLo being included in the Motown special as a problem, the Grammys may be different because she was the sole representative. But no matter how you cut it, J-Lo cannot upstage Motown....so I had no problem with her doing a Motown tribute on the special. Artistically, she selected Motown songs she liked and stayed true to herself without trying to mock or emulate Motown artists, which would have been dishonest. JLo's performance was extremely well choreographed, staged and balanced for a six minute tribute. The whole purpose was to get a large modern artist to help fill in the length of the show and help support ratings. Berry and Smokey christened it because J-Lo's inclusion fits into their vision that Motown was for everyone.

Thank you!!!! They asked JLO to perform and all the haters act like JLO stomped in and said I am doing this and the creators cannot stop me, please!!! She was asked and she delivered!!! Like she said music is universal quit making it about race and color!!!

Her being up there was such an insult. She didn't sing anything. Lors of real Motown artists around. Insulting.
@xiffiys23715 жыл бұрын
She is lying...SHE IS CRYING BECAUSE HER FEELINGS ARE HURT BECAUSE OF THE BACKLASH SHE GOT BEFORE SHE EVEN TOOK STAGE. SHE FEELS THE NEED TO JUSTIFY HER PERFORMANCE WITH TALES OF HER MOTHER LISTENING TO MOTOWN...J LO FEELS GUILTY AND THE MOMENT SHE HEARD DIANA ROSS SING, SHE WAS REMINDED OF WHY SHE WASN'T THE BEST CHOICE TO SING SO MANY TRIBUTE SONGS.
@rachelstum9 ай бұрын
You do not know her so why even say why you think she is crying. She has nothing to feel quilty about. She should feel emense pride in herself that she proved all the haters wrong and stood up for herself and anyone else suffering from the hate of others over what race or color they are or gender or sexual orientation. Everyone hating on JLO needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves why am I acting like a racist!!!

It is not about her. The black community will have to endure because we have been doing this for years. It was ? and all I saw was the clip. You see what happen with the country song when made by a black man. This is what it is and going to be until the creator comes back. Money , ratings over integrity. Money , Power and No Respect. It is written in the Bible we continue to follow gentiles and accept what ever they do; we will complain , gripe ,march and follow. If my people will humble themselves and turn from there wicked ways I will heal there land. And by far Black people are not going to humble themselves. Victim mentality is done with. Get on your knees repent and ask the Most High to fight our battles. Black People This Is not your home and you will never fit in. This is why we keep being followers. The only one that can give the rights to our people Is the Most High through his son. He is the one that took these rights from us and until we worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. No need to make her feel bad.
