Hi Chris! I am a life long jazz musician and never paid too much attention to Roger. But man...I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this interview. I had no idea about any of his background and what a great human being he is. Those of us in the music world who try to let people know about the reality of things really risk our careers and sometimes a lot more. I have traveled internationally for the last 2 decades and can tell you...I am ashamed many times when i have to take out my US passport. People look at me with HATE many times i tell you! I have lost many friends for touring in China! It is truly unreal how much ignorance there is. So now I mostly just play and get out to the next gig to continue my life, but....Its super tiring dealing with this as a musician and trying to even let people into my mind, to know my opinion about war and what the US does in this world! I am grateful to you in so many ways. I have watched you for a long time now, just to keep my mind in peace knowing that not everyone is totally corrupt and brainwashed. This interview gave me another reason to be at peace in the world and have a little more healing from the battles. My family has a long history of activism as well. My cousins were tortured in South America. Jailed. My uncle's persecuted by government police and military for going to Cuba back in the 70's and etc etc. So you can imagine why I listen to you. Not from anger...but from a place where I can find peace in my heart. To deal with the condition we find ourselves in. And to know I am not alone. Thank you again. And many big hugs. P

I'm surprised because in most countries people are well aware that people are not their government. I was in Israel in1968 after the six day war, and witnessed the clearing of a Bedoin market in Beersheba. Mainly with young soldiers not much older than me. Their callous, cruel behavior drove a stake in my heart. It was like footage I had seen of the clearing of the ghettoes. When I returned home in London, I argued with my mother. (a Rumanian holocaust survivor) and ended up leaving home on my 18th birthday, early in the morning. Israel separated us forever, to my eternal regret. I am so glad I attended Roger Waters's concert in Atlanta, GA earlier this year. So intense and thought-provoking. Great discussion with Chris Hedges. Two of my favorite progressive voices: Chris Hedges and Roger Waters. What you see is what you get, no matter how inconvenient.

Pink Floyd had a deep impact on me during my teens and triggered the critical and questioning of the entire system and authorities, Roger should be called; Lord Waters.

Great work, Chris and RNN. Aside from being a one-man political force, Roger is a fine artist and poet and a true gentleman, as we saw, for example in his keenness to point out that Rick Wright composed the music to "Us and Them."
@ElMariachi555 Жыл бұрын
That was Rick's masterpiece. Roger added, as usual, phenomenal poetry to it. Gilmour did a good job singing. But that is Rick at his best.

I can't say I am a huge fan of Pink Floyd but Roger Waters is a remarkable man - a good man. So few artists nowadays have a sense of social conscience, stay informed, and are willing to speak out.

Roger has come under some heavy criticism in the last few years. He has taken a strong stand for the subjugated people of Palestine and has subsequently been condemned by mainstream media. The sad part about this is "The Wall" being taken out of context and used against him. It hit me emotionally when he spoke of his father and how he died at Anzio, making the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. To this day the song "When The Tigers Broke Free" brings on that feeling of sacrifice and loss. It is beyond irony Roger was made an honourary citizen of Anzio a few years ago. I got to hear Roger speak in Vancouver a few years ago at a local church, admission was by donation; now only if we can do something about those ridiculously priced concert tickets ! Thank you Roger for staying true all these years.

Peace needs to be pursued, and there MUST be a long term strategy for peace globally. Peace is hardly ever mentioned in MSM nor establishment politics, but war and billions "needed" in arms in Ukraine is constantly sold as the only answer

True, and we know why. But what brings me to the brink of going crazy that people do distinguish between imperialism and imperialism, between this and that war. I can walk and chew a gum at the same time, as a socialist with principles I don't throw overboard when it gets complicated. Human race is all but peacefully and I'm not a dreamer anymore. I lost my confidence in people. People who want, voluntarily or involuntarily, part of a faction, because it's feeling good, rather than thinking for themselves and go the painful way of becoming knowledgeable in a desert full of distraction, propaganda and misinformation. Healthy critical thinking, being a skeptic while not giving in in tribalism,searching for truth by oneself and crawling against all odds, even against once own like minded people is the hard but better way to understand and staying sane. I don't think many of us do and I will die in fear for those left behind. If we want peace on earth we should persui peace in us first (no, I'm not that guy who is some sort of a old hippie or new age deciple) by not becoming selfish and over-rightious, to confident and uncritical of oneself. Is peace possible and can we break the circles of violence and war? I'm rather pessimistic. Not because assholes dominate this world but because of the people to dumb and numb to get out of their comfort zone and fight for what's right.
