Singapore Film Camera & Film shopping tour. Any good finds?

You missed out one tiny shop at Peninsula - Ruby Photo (3 Coleman St, B1-20, Singapore 179804) at the basement. That's where majority of us in SG buy our darkroom/photo developing chemicals. AFAIK, they are the only shop in SG that still sells developing chemicals. Basically all the film gear and stuff in SG are all found mainly in Peninsula Shopping Centre (don't confuse with the building across the road - Peninsula Plaza, which has a couple of camera gear shops on the ground floor).

Good thing you did not have to feature Black Market Camera. :) Locals only buy there when they are super desperate for an item that they need ASAP or they know nothing.

It’s a pity Ben Photo were closed when you were there, they had lots of Leica items and the owner uncle is super nice. The camera workshop uncles (the first one u checked out) are very kind and patient as well as knowledgeable.

I was in Singapore 3 years ago and got into Black Market on the first try. They had the best selection of general photo gear. I bought a 135mm Nikon lens there. Be careful with that Chinese 400D film. I bought 3 rolls (US$7.50 each) when I was in China last month and the quality is hit-or-miss. Some of the film labs in China won't process that film because the supplier didn't do a good job removing the remjet layer and it fouls their C41 chems. I processed a roll at home and experienced that. Maybe they've fixed it now.

Wow, when you walked into that first shop on day 2, it gave me major flashbacks to my old local shop. Kodak and Fuji signs everywhere and film floor to ceiling behind the counter :)

The shop with the golden contax RTS is my favourite shop there! Was hoping you'd go back there, they got many goodies hidden and not displayed! Should have told us you're is sg!!! Your fans here will definitely chip in to give you some tips for camera gear shopping! Glad you dropped by though. Hope to see a few episodes of your street photography experience here! (;

Great tour if these shops. That Konica IIIA is one of my favorite cameras, especially the version with f/1.8 lens. Very compact and Leica-like, with superb glass. I also have the later IIIM model, which has a mask to be able to use it as a 1/2 frame camera. But the price at tgat shop is about $100 too high. You can get a refurbished one in great condition for around $180.

There a lot’s of camera shop that sell film camera at singapore! You should visit to malaysia especially johor bharu. There is few darkroom lab at johor bharu. The development price is quite good too.

Make no mistake quality got its price even in SIN. Given its a top quality camera or lens you might pay the same price as overseas given the fact you still need to pay import taxes on return. Also no warranty claims once your back home.

It's a good thing Black Market was closed, you missed out on absolutely nothing. Their customer service is shocking and prices are through the roof, for the life of me I have no idea how they've stayed opened for business for as long as they have. No one should shop there, EVER!
