First song is a traditional Russian song called Kalinka and used to be sung by the Red Army Men’s Choir as an opening song when they toured internationally.

Sandy Shaw was a singer who was very popular at the time (famous for always performing barefoot), hence their reference to pulling sandy shore! I once heard that Santana's army heard the defenders of the Alamo singing 'Green Grow The Rushes Oh!' and subsequently called them Gringos, but maybe someone was just spinning me a yarn...

I'm going to disagree with Sue Churchill, Sandy Shaw (who was sexy and sophisticated) had stepped away at least 10 years earlier to study to become a psychologist, and she became one. But Ronnie Barker had no idea about the music when he did this. I understand that, because today I don't either.
