The hatch looks so much better! I think that’s partially why the Si is only the sedan and the R is the hatch. The Hybrid looks amazing if I was ready to give up my clutch.

I wish the civic SI could actually get more power or more changes. It seems like it’s had the same horsepower for over a decade and as the standard engines get more powerful, there really isn’t much of a performance gain. If it had closer to Golf GTI power, that’d be nice.

@@williamlevy1981 still the same 200 horsepower and 192 torque. In 2013, an SI had 201 horsepower and in 2007, it had 197 horsepower. So basically it’s hovered around 200 horsepower for the last 20 years. Meanwhile, a GTI has 241 horsepower and an older focus st had 252. So a little more power to get into that range would be nice. It’d be a nice middle ground between a normal civic and the extreme type r.

If Honda priced the Si at $25K, perhaps the 8.1 sec 0-60 mph time would be excusable. At $32K though, there are way better all around performance offerings on the market. Especially since the 10th gen was quicker still, and also was equipped with adaptive dampers. The Si definitely wouldn't be my choice. The 1.5T over the years has had it's reliability issues also.

I think the problem is that there aren’t enough people buying MT cars. On the other hand, manufacturers don’t seem to be that interested in making manual cars that people really want to buy. And can afford! Sad, really.
@RatedGr82 ай бұрын
@@housepianist very true. I'm not too informed on the situation so take my words with a grain of salt, but from what I've been told this is mainly a problem in the States, because in Europe and other parts of the world manual transmission cars are still very sought after if not downright the preference for most.
@KNRS9272 ай бұрын
@@RatedGr8manual transmissions are also becoming less and less common in Europe too. In the U.S., it’s a bigger issue because most people aren’t taught stick the way they are elsewhere in the World, and the few people who prefer it aren’t enough for automakers to justify making it. Honda and Mazda are probably the to most popular brands for people who prefer stick, so these two are the ones keeping them alive here.
@housepianist2 ай бұрын
@@RatedGr8 you are exactly correct. I live in England for some time many years ago and almost every manufacturer offered MT cars. Although there are automatics, hybrids, EV, etc, in Europe today, there are still a large number of cars that use MT for many reasons such as cost (manuals are cheaper), fuel efficiency as related to their high fuel costs, topography, and to some extent euro regulations governing MT and AT cars. But there may be a time where AT cars in Europe may be a thing of the past but manuals are more readily available (comparatively speaking) than in the States.
@RatedGr82 ай бұрын
@@KNRS927 interesting, it's sad really that it's heading that way, because one driving manual is an art, furthermore it's a lot safer for the drivers and everyone on the road because it keeps the driver more engaged. I'm so glad my friends thought me how to drive MT.

I dont understand the all the shade he's throwing. Thats still a Civic yall! Fun, cheap and reliable. More content means more weight. You really get everything that you need and nothing more. My 2020 SI sedan is 2906 lbs. I'd still call that relatively light for it's size. I would say it's more mid sized than compact. The average curb weight for mid size sedans is 3300 lbs. I'm a little bit tired of all the "expert" journalists who insist the SI should have more power in 2025. Why? the SI was never about pure speed, it was simply about a more sporty CIVIC, nothing more nothing less and I believe that attribute stills stands today. The SI is about a car that does everything well ... e.g. the Elantra "N" is significantly faster but does that make it a better car??? of course not, it just makes it faster. Folks spend most of their time using their car as a daily driver rather than a dedicated track car (see Elantra 'N') and that's what Honda has delivered. If you want something faster buy an "N" but don't complain to me when it's track-focused nature becomes more of a liability than an asset. Once again "expert" journalists comparing the SI to the Sport Touring Hybrid ... it doesn't matter if the HP (200) is the same, they are two different cars for different purposes. If you think the STHybrid is a performance sedan then please buy one but I simply see it as a non-sporty Civic that has good HP and gets great MPG. Keith Chicago IL aged 68 and have a 25 SI on order ...

@housepianistАй бұрын
I do tend to agree with you. On the hand, the Si could use more power but not in terms of catching up to its competition. It doesn’t need Jetta GLI or Elantra N power. I think the Si needs more power because of what Honda has done with their other Civics. The base Civic still has 150hp but now with the Sport and Hybrid Sport pushing 200hp, with the latter producing much more torque than the Si, it probably COULD have a touch more hp, no more than +15. Or even 5 more hp but maybe +10 ft/lb of torque. Personally, I think having a little extra hp and torque can make the already sporty nature of the Si a bit more “involving” because the way it’s set up now can easily handle a bit more grunt. But adding like 25 to 30 more hp would not benefit the overall set up of the Si unless Honda redesigns the chassis and suspension to take advantage of that kind of power increase. So yeah, I think you make a good point but it just needs to stand out a bit more against its own siblings and not its competition.
@Jumperman12macАй бұрын
I agree but if that new hybrid makes the same amount of hp but more torque, then the Si could at least do 220 and nothing more.

No where near the "spritely" feel the previous generations have. Add another 200lbs and its an accord. If I wanted a larger Civic I would just buy an accord. Honda, like alot of manufacturers, are stuck in the rut of "bigger is better" and thats simply untrue for most of us that are passionate Civic fans. What I would really get excited about would be an EG style throwback hot hatch. 200hp in a 2100lb car is about the perfect formula for a car to still be practical while being fun. It’s slow, but there are tunes to really wake it up. 😊 Externally, I wish they would have made it visually different than a Sport. Same wheels too! Oh well, aftermarket it is. I would not put 87 octane in that engine. While that engine is great with its performance (it is better performing in the 10th gen civic due to weighing less) it is known as Honda’s most unreliable engine due to shear gasket failures. Learning from another channel that the use of 91 octane or higher will prevent or prolong a head gasket failure. Even the manual recommends 91 octane on the civic before it went hybrid.

I disagree with you on several points. Cloth seats are perfect for this car. Leather would be slippery around corners. The short-ratio gear box is perfect as well. 0-60 mph is a meaningless metric. Shifting at redline all the way up to 4th without getting into license-losing territory, on the other hand, is pure bliss for the manual enthusiast this car is aimed at. Furthermore, you're factually wrong regarding the brakes. They're larger than on base-model cars.
