That means WE have to volunteer, share videos like this, talk to people, hit doors, pick up phones, donate what we can, wear t shirts and hand out bumper stickers and raise money. His campaign website is up. If you really support his message and think people should hear it go volunteer. Surely you have at least an hour a week you can give. We can all do something and we will never see change so long as we all sit around and keep waiting for someone else to do all the work. Solidarity is all about rallying behind eachother.

I'm sure he will do the best he can, but he will need a good portion of us citizens to do our part in creating a new model for community building that he can promote and encourage. What do I mean? Well, the current structure, as Cornel often talks about, the predatory capitalist system is harmful and unsustainable. We need a new model. As Buckminster Fuller said "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” That's what we can do, even by learning and sharing our knowledge with others today and tomorrow trying to expand our reach, organize along class lines and then act and build. There is a model called the One Small Town initiative with Michael Tellinger. A Contributionist model. Voluntary, but very beneficial to the health and wellness of a community. Cooperation and collaboration become a key part of the strength of this system. Check out the website for more. There are already towns that have started this and a bunch in the US that are planning to stat up as well. Imagine in a year's time if there are even a handful of US towns that use this One Small Town model and see the successes, and Dr. West gets ear of this? He can promote it and encourage it, give more awareness to it. That will give the people a viable path to take back their communities from the corporate stranglehold and private profit capture.

Great conversation. I’d never thought of the war against Native Americans as lasting 500 years, but indeed it has. During college for my work study I worked in the college library. The government documents would come in boxes and my job was to write the classification number on them and shelve them. One day I realized that everything related to Native Peoples was shelved under Bureau of Land Management with National Parks and wildlife and mineral rights and drilling leases. It was an eye opener. Love the way Dr West talks about black music as an antidote to the most brutal of all centuries. I’ve heard the ecstatic joy in Swing and the loneliness and hurt in the dissonances of the post war Bebop, as well as the soaring in Bird and Trane. I never saw it as the spiritual shield that it was against all the destruction and violence of this time. Although I might have difficulty loving Dr West gives me hope. Solidarity! 💚👊

Your understanding of the fabric of America as fundamentally siloed culturally was articulated with such clarity, it was as if it wasn't the first time I'd heard it!! Guided by truth, justice, peace and community we can overcome the odds and the toxic structure of a world run on monetary-market capitalism. System change happens when we come together and create a new model that makes the current model obsolete, as the late great Buckminster Fuller explained. I don't think we've had a viable new model to contribute to for such a long time. There is The Zeitgeist Movement and those films and related videos and books are great for better understanding and problem solving solutions, but they don't quite have a cohesive model. At least not yet. However, relatively recently a viable new model has emerged. Micheal Tellinger with the One Small Town initiative has given a structure, a powerful online platform for us to engage, community by community. Volunteer by volunteer. Three hours per week. Cooperative organization owned and operated by the community members. Building sustainable abundance and prosperity through cooperation and collaboration. See for yourself. Already the town in Lebanon that is using this model is seeing great results. They are just the beginning. They are learning a lot about what works and what doesn't and then sharing the results with others so we can benefit from that knowledge.

We need the intelligence, depth and moral standing of leaders like West. It will be important to stop thinking in terms of left and right or other identity politics labels, and focus more on connecting with as big a chunk of the bottom half (or more) of the pyramid. It's a class struggle, top-down, rich-poor, so at the base of the pyramid there are left-right issues but those have to be deprioritized for the moment. The tip of the pyramid owns most of the wealth and power, but the base is stronger!
