fun fact: while still technically a "miniature" the dam was actually 4 stories tall. it was also the largest water release in hollywood history at that time. and it was double sided, the dam on one side, and the bridge on the other. and yes, the bridge was all model work. the van and the two humvees were rc cars. The massive pyroclastic flow seen at the end is a fast-moving current of hot gas and volcanic matter (AKA tephra) that flows along the ground away from a volcano at average speeds of 60 mph, but can move as fast 430 mph. The gases and tephra can reach temperatures of about 1,000 °C (1,800 °F). So anything it touches is absolutely destroyed or even disintegrated.

This one Dante's Peak because it is more scientifically accurate to the actual eruption of Mt. Saint Helen's in 1980. Note: "former U.S. president Harry Truman was the last holdout on Mount St. Helens and almost surely the first person to die when the volcano erupted on May 18, 1980. The owner of a resort on Spirit Lake in the shadow of the mountain, Truman, 83, had refused to evacuate despite urgent warnings of imminent disaster."

I just love that it has this big disaster of an active volcano, but it still feels realistic, like it doesn't feel like the drama got pushed to 1000 for no reason. Big images without going overboard and a nice storyline that walks you through it. I also like the chemistry between all the characters
@MarisolFerreiraMarysoul14 сағат бұрын
The work developed for blending both visual effects and tangible objects made during these times, for twister, Forrest Gump, Dante's peak, amongst other blockbusters were so crazy amazing to us that we had magazines reporting the how they did it, in depth interviews with the creative teams, photos comparing the evolution of the scene and differences between the before and after. It all may seem a bit corny right now, but it was exciting times discovering these new steps of visual effects. And it was Very impressive.

The basic outline of the grandma’s storyline is inspired by Harry R. Truman who refused to evacuate his home near Mt. St. Helens because he similarly believed he had some sort of spiritual connection with the mountain and it would not hurt him.

I encourage anyone who can donate, donate what you can. It's not a great movie for many reasons, but I can tell you as a person who lived in western WA for the '90s (where we have multiple volcanoes, that's why they set it here), it is exactually how the procedure would go. - Even if the volcano were making noises, people wouldn't leave (they do all the time and nothing happens) and no one will have a cell phone in this town in 1997, the mountains block the cell signals (also, it's 1997). Trying to get the word out to all the people would be very hard unless they were all in the same space. This is why we (humans) used to have things like townhall meetings that many people would attend.

If we don’t make a significant and rapid change, we will all end up as boiling frogs.

fuck your climate change, the LA Wild Fires are not climate change, LA has been burning since long before LA was LA and the stronger hurricanes are (per the NOAA) are being caused by the REDUCTION IN PARTICULATE POLLUTION IN EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA, so your attempts to stop climate change are actually causing the warming that is creating more and more powerful hurricanes.
