One of my favorite things about this movie is there's actually a surprising amount of environmental storytelling, one of my favorite things that's briefly mentioned is that Atom was designed probably to be a training bot or a sparring bot. He was literally built for the purpose of getting hit and keep fighting which made him such a perfect underdog, the person with the highest endurance is always going to win

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but this is based off a short story, so that could also be why it feels a little more fleshed out. It is been years since I read it, so I don't remember how much dialog was carried over. To me, part of the reason why this movie works is that it feels like a real world progression. We already have BattleBots and before that Robot Wars. This just feels like how things could naturally progress.
@ImAlsoMerobiba11 ай бұрын
This movie sold me on BattleBots. Not that I disliked it before, I just never found time to watch it. After seeing this movie, I had to have more robot fighting.
@markandrew596811 ай бұрын
Besides the obvious father-son story, I actually appreciate the real commentary in the movie about how Charlie has come to believe that robot boxing means that there's no longer any skill or strategy involved, just the engineering of the robot. It's kinda like the tendency for people to ignore the importance and effort of the engineers and mechanics in things like F1, or NHRA, and all that, just sort of reversed. People think of the driver and forget the mind-blowing amount of effort, skill, and strategy involved with the mechanical side of it. Charlie thought it was all mechanical, and didn't appreciate skill and strategy for the driver. Also, I loved that at lot of the small fights felt a lot like modern fairground rodeos and demolition derbys, and that type of stuff. All the environments for the fighting felt really tied to how it would be in real life, even down to the super over-the-top techno styling of the actual league. You know that if we got something like that they would go full ham on it like WWE.
@DanGamingFan284611 ай бұрын
When you think about it, each robot Charlie has represents his situation, Ambush being rusty, in need of a polish, shows him being a bit of an old fighter who is getting beaten down by chance. Noisy Boy is him trying to reclaim the glory of the old days, but unfamiliar to the new ways of the ring And Atom shows him passing off the reins to a new start, starting from the bottom and making their way to the top as the underdog.

What I love about Shawn Levy as a director is that yes there is no new ground with his movies, there are tropes and predictable beats a mile away, but he sucks me in with infectious joy, imagination, and heart. It’s this sweet tenderness that makes his films special. No where near the same technical level of Spielberg but certain in the vein of classic Spielberg joy and wonder

I love this movie and still do. I used to own the DVD for this movie (probably still have it somewhere in my basement) and I always loved watching thbehind-the-sceneses. THIS MOVIE is peak tbh. The fact that Charlie started out a cocky person to a good father, was amazing. If it wasn't for Max charlie would of still been in debt. And the only reason Charlie lost with Ambush and Noisy Boy is because he wasn't confident in his own ability as a boxer. He would always take the easy way out. Using the combinations that was already there when they bought noisy boy. Instead of using his own boxing ability because he would think he's not good enough. Not until we see him training with Atom. Using his moveset and using his abilities as a boxer to win. And the fact in the last fight against Zeus. Zeus is made to have extreme power to make fights go faster. Which when you compare to Atom, he has extremely good defense because he's a sparring bot. He was made to take a beating. And use that with the skills of an experienced boxer who only got knockouts when they won and you have yourself a really good damn robot. That's why Zeus didn't last that long in the 5th round because he wasn't made for it. But goddamn this movie is amazing and I really love it. They made the characters really good and have their own personalities. And the fact that is now getting more recognition then it did when it came out is making me extremely happy. Peak movie
