Happens sometimes with movies - remember when Olympus has Fallen and White House Down came out in the same year. Or The Prestige and The Illusionist. There was also Antz and A Bug's Life. With Antz and A Bug's Life, it was deliberate. As far as I know Olympus was in development hell while the script for White House had film productions clamoring to make it a film so Olympus was fast tracked to beat it. With The Prestige and The Illusionist, it was a coincidence. More like people on Hollywood predicted what would the upcoming trends be.

As fun as Dredd is, the Raid was definitely the superior film out of the two. Redefined the action genre and inspired new levels in shows and movies for years to come (DD, John Wick, etc)

I love both flicks but I feal like The Raid is more real life as Dredd is more of a scifi feal which the original is but I really enjoyed the hole escape feature because you're already going on a police raid that's intense enough then you get there and now you have to kill to get back out amazing movie 👍

When Rama tossed the pistol it was empty. The gun was loaded with 1 round, he used it on the guy he took it from. Revolvers don't automatically eject their spent shell casings, so the 1 bullet you saw in the cylinder wasn't a bullet, it was just the empty shell casing.

Fun fact: JJ Abrams originally brought The Raid cast members into Star Wars Episode 7 in order to choreograph some of the fight scenes, but Abrams thought their suggestions were too violent, so their role in the movie got reduced to a cameo. Iko Uwais once talked about this in an interview with Men's Health.

The raid is hands down one of the most influential action films of all time, revolutionized the industry. The raid is what forced Hollywood to actually put effort back into action choreography and ditch the egregious quick cuts. Without the raid we wouldn't have john wick, daredevil, winter soldier, etc. look like how we see them. Hell, I even remember the later seasons of Agents of Shield out of nowhere starting having some serious action choreography. Even if you personally have never seen the raid, 100 percent the directors of your favorite modern action movies studied the hell out of it.

Y'all aren't ready for The Raid 2, it's not only better than the first, but it expands and grows this world and story in such a beautiful way and with even crazier martial arts action. I love how they expertly planted seeds in Redemption to lead into Raid 2. When the woman's husband talks to Rama about how he's seen the old man there before. And when Jaka says to him, "We're not here to do good, we're here to make someone rich." And then asks, "Who ordered the hit?" There's such a sense of eerieness because you realize there's a whole lot more going on than taking out a drug lord in an apartment. Tama (the drug lord) is just one fish swimming in a much bigger pond.

11 years later and this movie is still absolutely mind-blowing (as well as intensely satisfying from a narrative standpoint). You should check out The Night Comes for Us -- different Writer/Director than The Raid 1 & 2, but the movie is in a very similar vein, and features moments that are actually considerably more hard-core than anything in the Raid movies (and yes, I know how big of a statement that is)

Funny you mentioned DREDD because they were released in the same year. And it is funny that you wear CAPTAIN AMERICA T-shirt because The Raid Redemption was the one who inspired Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. In fact, the actor who played Tama the boss, was in Captain America 3: Civil War's deleted scene. Other than Captain America, it also inspired Arrow TV Series and Netflix's Daredevil. Basically, this movie was the one who changed how Hollywood choreographed the fighting scenes in their movies.

True, the first The Raid final fight feel so raw, so brutal and the sense of hopelessness is so high in that fight, usually in action movie we just don't worry about the main character chance of survival. But that's not the case in this movie, especially in this fight scene. We really feel the dread and really worry of the possiblity that they're gonna get killed. They almost didn't make it and have to fight dirty to evening the odd. It kinda reminds me of the final fight of Lethal Weapons 4 where Mel Gibson & Danny Glover have to fight Jet Li, they start doing fist fight thinking they have the chance because it is a 2 vs 1, but when everything goes south they start fighting dirty and even using a gun to ended the fight when they almost at their last breath.

This film is based on director Gareth Evans' love of Indonesian martial arts (silat). Gareth, who was making a documentary about Silat, met Iko Uwais (Rama). Gareth invited Iko to make an action film. Iko and Yayan Ruhian(Mad Dog) are skilled silat artists. Meanwhile, the cool Joe Taslim is an expert in Yudo and Kung Fu martial arts. And he has acted in many films outside Indonesia, such as being Sub Zero in the film Mortal Kombat.

YES, FINALLY. I’ve been hoping you guys react to this movie. I can’t wait for y’all to see The Raid 2. It's easily one of, if not the best martial arts crime drama movie EVER. Iko Uwais is an absolute BEAST. It’s a shame he hasn’t really been able to do more high-profile stuff like other martial arts actors (Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jet Li, Tony Jaa etc.). He's the protagonist of a Netflix series that came out a while back called Wu Assassins, but I don't think it got too much buzz. I would’ve loved to see him in Fast & Furious, John Wick, or even Mission Impossible. Heck, he would’ve been awesome in Mortal Kombat (2021). Joe Taslim (who plays Jaka here) was in F&F 6, Mortal Kombat (2021), and the Max series Warrior. And Yayan Ruhian (who plays Mad Dog here and another character in The Raid 2) was in John Wick 3. But, I would love to see Iko Uwais face off against Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa, Jason Statham, or even Simu Liu. Although the movie was too bloody for my tastes, him and Joe Taslim killed it in The Night Comes For Us.

Jaka's actor played Sub Zero in Mortal Kombat 2021. He also had several international movies; The Swordsman 2020, Fast Furious 6, Warrior 2019 (Tv Show), etc. Watch The Night Come For Us 2018, also bad-ass movie with intense action

This is the 3rd reaction I've watched and all 3 said the same thing when Rama killed the guy with his own revolver checked the cylinder and then tossed it. Nobody realized that the gun was empty, that 1 round that was in the cylinder was just fired, so it's now just a paper weight.

By the time I first finished this movie I was actually sweating from exhaustion. And somehow even though Disney and Lucasfilm got the guys that played Mad Dog and Rama to play the leaders of Kanjiklub in The Force Awakens and had them get eaten by a Rathtar like a couple punks. Also if they need someone to play Vegeta or Frieza in a live action DBZ movie they need Mad Dog.

This movie and Dredd were actually filmed roughly around the same time, apparently it's just a strange coincidence that the plots are so similar.

Roxy should see Joe Taslim (Jaka) as the main protagonist in "The Night Comes For Us" (2018).

One idea for Raid 3 was to have it take place in parallel to 2. There was even talk of Tony Haa being the lead for that situation.

If you think this movie is badass, part 2 takes everything to the next level. The action scenes, more drama, cinematography, scale and a better more involving story. A bit slower, and more story but those action sequences are gonna blow your minds. Fun fact: the guy who plays mad dog is the fight choreographer for 1 & 2 and he plays a different but almost as badass character in part 2.

There's one really neat and sadistic touch they added during the main fight at the end after they stick the broken lightbulb into his neck -- Every time they cut to a new shot and the fight continues, they refill it with blood, so you see it pour out somewhat in each shot.

Some schools in Indonesia practice Silat, which is used through out the series by literally everybody that had a fight scene, there are many styles of Silat, the director Garth Evan’s came to Indonesia to bring light to the martial art, and eventually created this cinematic masterpiece.

I am in love with Roxy & Greg's back and forth. I am laughing my ass off pausing 19 seconds into press like and comment because her sweaty hand shake making Andrew awkward as can be, 'You're welcome.' She says. To GREG: this is hilarious ROXY: You make me want to be a better Jew. I'm not Jewish, but you do make me want to be much better. To ANDREW: You lucky Jew
