This movie was pretty much the main horror movie parody that knows its a parody. Like the actual Scream movie just makes fun of horror movie tropes, Scary Movie is aware of those tropes but takes advantage of them for their own comedic purposes. I look at it as scream and scary movie are the truest forms of the difference between satire and d parody. Scream knows the tropes, but is still its own story. Fun fact: Brenda's death is actually another scream reference. In one of the sequels a girl is killed in the cinema during the showing of a horror movie 'based on the murders that happened in their town', so they thought it was a joke because all the teens running around in ghostface costumes.

Yeah, it was Jada Pinkett-Smith in SCREAM 2. Same with the scene with Ray in the restroom was Omar Epps' restroom scene in SCREAM 2. Since this came out in 2000 the first three SCREAM films were out by then, but they didn't reference SCREAM 3 because of this being filmed in 1999 and SCREAM 3 was released a few months before this that same in 2000.

The 2 main movies parodied here are Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Both were written by Kevin Williamson, who also created Dawson’s Creek. Hence the scene with the theme song and James Van Der Beek climbing through the wrong window. The gag of the principal being Squiggy from Lenny and Squiggy is because in Scream, the principal was Henry Winkler who played The Fonz on Happy Days. The casting of the Principal is actually a really clever, layered joke. The actor who plays Principal Squiggman is playing his greaser character Andrew “Squiggy” Squiggman from the ‘70s sitcom “Laverne & Shirley.” “Laverne & Shirley” is a spin-off of “Happy Days” which starred Henry Winkler as the greaser character Fonzy. and of course Winkler played the principal in Scream. So the casting choice was a comedic nod to Scream having a B tier version of Winkler as the principal 😊
