Hansel and Gretel,two children leaving a trail of breadcrumbs to find their way back home.
@michaelklaus5 ай бұрын
So when will Tara watch Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters? But well, it is one of the more commonly known of the fairytales collected by the Brothers Grimm. And although there may not be dubs, there are certainly a number of movies made about it. There is also a song version that is known since somewhat around the year 1900: Hänsel und Gretel verliefen sich im Wald. The song tells you basically everything most people remember. But it leaves out the initial situation of the siblings. So, in case you can not be bothered to pick up a book or a movie, here you go. Once upon a time, there was a woodcutter who lived with his wife and children at the edge of the forest. Times were hard, and the family struggled to make ends meet. The wife was a rather cold woman. She persuaded the woodcutter to take their children, Hänsel and Gretel, into the forest with him and leave them to their fate. But the boy who had overheard their parents talking spent all morning collecting pebbles. So the father took them into the forest and when the time came he left them with some bread and water and promised he would return when he was done with his work. At home, the father was struck with the horror of what he had done, but his wife convinced him that it was for the best. The children waited for their father to return, and when night fell, they realized that their father had broken his promise, and Gretel started to cry bitterly. But Hänsel dried her tears and said, "Do not worry, little sister; I have collected pebbles and put them out along the way when went into the forest. We will surely find the way home." And in the light of the moon and stars, the pebbles shone brightly, and in the morning hours, the children reached their home, and their father was relived. But still the family had not enough to eat. So soon after the wife convinced her husband again, it would be for the best if he led their children into the forest and left them to their fate. Again, Hänsel had overheard his parents talking. So, for the second time, the woodcutter left the sibling with some bread and water. And again, when night fell he had not returned. But just like the first time, Hänsel had led out a trail of pebbles, and in the light of the moon and the stars, the pebbles shone bright, and they returned home. Sadly for the siblings, as much as their father was struck with horror and relieved when they came home, his wife convinced him a third time that it would be best if he led them into the forest and left them to their fate. Hänsel had again overheard his parents. But in the morning, there were no more pebbles left to find. So when the time came and they headed into the forest, he took the last bread he could find and layed out a trail of bread crumbs on their way. Again their father left them, promising he would return soon. But his time the children didn't believe his promises. Soon after he had left to work alone, they headed back along their trail of breadcrumbs. But after a while, they couldn't find any more crumbs. The birds of the forest had picked them up and swallowed them hole. So Hänsel and Gretel lost their way, and they ventured all day and all night through the forest. And only in the morning hours, when they were exhausted and cold, they peeked the most peculiar sight. On a small clearing, there was standing a house made from gingerbread.

@WastedPo5 ай бұрын
I always found this movie to be incredibly underrated. I guess when it came out, a lot of people took exception to the fact that it barely resembles the book it was based on. Especially vexing was Roger Ebert. He slammed this movie specifically for that reason. But I definitely recall him also saying at some other time that he thinks it's unfair to judge a movie based on whether or not it's "faithful" to the source material; he said that a movie should be judged on its own merits. Anyway, putting aside the title, is "I, Robot" a good movie? I believe so, especially compared to the other "Will Smith Popcorn Movies" of this era. I thought it was relatively thought-provoking (at least compared to M.I.B. and Independence Day), and I appreciated the "noir" vibe to it. (I will say, though, that it really doesn't feel like an Alex Proyas movie aesthetically. He'd previously done "The Crow" and "Dark City." Those two movies *do* feel alike stylistically. "I, Robot," meanwhile, feels like it could've been a totally different director.)

I agree. I think if Will Smith could integrate into a movie world better, the jarring exposition and product placements were removed, Shia was removed. it would stand as a clean tight well plotted story. It totally resembles the Isaac Asimov anthology. I don't know why people keep saying it doesn't. The arc in the book is that [SPOILER] the president of the universe is suspected of being a robot. BUT its an anthology full of different ways the robotic laws are flawed. Some of those stories aren't great. This movie is better than those. Well acted by everyone except Shia and sometimes Will. Key moments were sold though. The characters were clean and purposeful though. I think people felt dissonance from what they expected of Will Smith and Alex Proyas style. They don't really mix well.

Like many books on robotics (I, Robot, Colossus: The Forbin Project) people forget that the 1st law is that "A robot cannot allow a human to come to harm". Which means that they must rule over us to prevent us from harming ourselves. These movies show us that the Law requires the complete loss of freedom.

The line gets dropped with such thought and conscious that you forget Will Smith is clearly prejudice and xenophobic (fear of the other). I love this movie. Fun facts: • According to the newscast, Dr. Alfred Lanning was born in 1971 and was 64 when he was murdered, the same age at the time as his actor James Cromwell. • The ceiling fan in Spooner's apartment is a two blade design, but only has one and the stump of the other, mirroring Spooner himself having only one arm and the stump of the other. • The idea of a robot hiding in a large group of identical robots comes from the Isaac Asimov story "Little Lost Robot", which appeared in the original book. Sonny's dreams in which slave robots are liberated comes from the Asimov short story "Robot Dreams", a sequel to the book. He also wrote the Three Laws of Robotics also known as Asimov’s Law in the short story “Runaround” in 1942 and was also included in the 1950s i, Robot collection

Here's the timeline in chronological order according to Isaac Asimov's notes: I, Robot (1950) Caves of Steel (1954) The Naked Sun (1957) The Robots of Dawn (1983) Robots and Empire (1985) The Currents of Space (1952) The Stars, Like Dust (1951) Pebble in the Sky (1950) Prelude to Foundation (1988) Forward the Foundation (1993) Foundation (1951) Foundation and Empire (1952) Second Foundation (1953) Foundation's Edge (1982) Foundation and Earth (1986)

This movie was so universally panned when it came out, and I never understood it. Ignored source material aside, it's just a good movie, that's all there is to it.

As an Asimov fan, this movie came as an unexpectedly creative imagining of the very themes his various robot novels explored. Lanning realizes the only way a robot capable of violating the 3 Laws (VIKI) can be stopped is by another robot capable of violating the 3 Laws (Sonny). The difference is Sonny is taught love and empathy and creativity and emotion, whereas VIKI is unguided and comes to her logical conclusions in her own. There are parallels to Terminator 2 and SkyNet vs the Model 101. In each case, they’re both the same AI with the capacity to learn. There’s a very human lesson here: People cannot escape the need to “teach” (guide, really) a sentient intelligence with emotions to decide to value life, which itself runs the risk of it not always working (as happens with humans trying to teach their own kids and other humans the same things).

Dark City is one of my favorite movies. Not because it’s necessarily the greatest film of all time, but the city setting feels a lot like the dreams and nightmares I used to have when younger.

This movie doesn't get enough love. When it first came out a lot of people didn't like that it wasn't really close to the book it was based on but I'd never read that so I just enjoyed it for itself. I think enough time has passed now that a lot of people have come around to that same perspective.

Okay there's so much to say about this movie and your reactions but I'm completely derailed by the casual mention that you haven't seen Dark City. I need that reaction!!! It's one of my favorite all- time movies, and it's so so SO underrated. Roger Ebert respected it so much he did a full commentary track for the dvd, it's amazing and so insightful and just wonderful to experience if you're a cinéphile. It's an insanely innovative movie that has had a huge influence but gets almost no appreciation. Please please please watch it! Love you both ❤❤

Man this movie just hits you with philosophy. “Spooner: thought you were dead. Sonny: technically I was never alive” What is needed for something to be considered alive? If the robot is a living thing then it’s not your body or mind is it your soul? Do souls exist? what makes us conscious? So many little lines like that thrown in.

17:15 - just order the robots to sit down. So you can see the one running.
@AGD_275 ай бұрын
Sonny is smart, he would have just sat down. Spooner needed to illicit a fear response in Sonny to make him act in a way a regular robot never would.

That is a basic and simple order he can do without acting fiferent. But saying "Stay still" and pointing a gun after he shoot one, showing he WILL shoot and kill him makes Sunny fear for his "life", the normal one is not gonna think of moving.or defending itself Sunny will try to defend himself.

Why not order the robots to restrain Sonny as he was fleeing past them?

If the two of you enjoyed the concepts in this movie, you should watch some of the Ghost In The Shell movies. They pose a number of the same questions and are even more similar to Blade Runner than this.

This could have been the matrix prequel. Especially since Will was supposed to play Neo.

This is his most underrated movie in my opinion I really loved Sonny the way they were able to let his emotions actually show was pretty cool since their feces can’t move like a humans can. I love the concept of Will’s character mainly hating the robots because, they can’t think or feel like a person they make choices based on calculations which is what saved him vs the little girl, but slowly Sonny changes his mind, and the V.I.K.I reveal loved it made so much sense. Another banger my dad introduced me to as a kid and I loved it I know it word for word happy you enjoyed love you Tara ❤

This movie was such a throwback. It's like Minority Report crossed with Blade Runner and AI: Artificial Intelligence. It was definitely ahead of its time, especially with the futuristic setting and visuals. (which were really cool) Plus, Will Smith killed it in the lead role. It's crazy that AI and AI-functioning robots used to just be pure sci-fi, like something we'd only see in movies. But, in just 20 years (since this movie came out) AI is slowly becoming part of our lives. A modern remake of this movie would be very interesting, especially since AI is such a (scary?) prevalent and growing thing now.

From Asimov: The Zeroth Law of Robotics: "A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm." Viki was just acting on this, though they don't explicitly state it.

Fun fact: i Robot is actually a prequel to Foundation which airs on Apple TV. Both are from books that were written by the genius Isaac Asimov. The guy wrote or edited over 500 books.
