I was healed of a 3 month undiagnosed dibilitating illness (5 drs on my case, many rounds of antibiotics and steroids) through a former ob/gyn of mine who asked if she could pray for me. My fevers broke 3 hrs later and never came back. My medical chart states an undiagnosed illness with no cure of medical intervention, however resolved. At the time I was a believer of God (raised in the Catholic church) but was not a follower of Christ. 4 years later, I was healed of cervical cancer. This is also in my medical chart and states that the procedures that I did have failed. My next step was to look at a hysterectomy or the next steps of treatment being that I was only 22. At my following exam, there was no explanation as to why my cervix was visibly clear and when my test results came back from that appt, there was no traces of cancer. I asked for explanations in disbelief, but my Dr abruptly brushed me off and dismissed me out of the office very quickly and was actually quite rude in her tone with me which was puzzling at the time. At this time I was a baby Christian and had had a few fellow believers who knew about my situation pray over me. Sorry so long, but also..what do cessaitionists do with hearing from the Holy Spirit? I have one instance where I heard a voice in my head (I know it sounds crazy) that told me not to make a certain move while I was driving as I was about to make said sudden move into a different lane. I grudgingly decided to listen and not 3 seconds after my decision the large semi-truck that was in short distance ahead of me was making a turn around the bend we were all on and where I would've been had made said move to the lane near it and this truck wiped out, taking a light pole and up the curb amd into a small warehouse. I was stunned. ....and grateful. So unless I was just having intrusive thoughts from demons trying to save my life, I don't know how else to explain that.

I have a niece who just experienced a similar healing. She is a Catholic- raised but unbelieving likely activist opposing God, but the family prayed and her pre-cancer turned up negative. We praise God and now pray for her belief and salvation. If He can heal an unbeliever thru the prayers of those who love her, I believe salvation can also come thru our prayers.

I attend a cessationist church. I don't agree with cessationism, but it is important to point out that they do not believe that miracles do not happen anymore. They do believe that no person bears miraculous sign gifts that can be reliably called upon to perform healings, or provide prophetic messages. However I think a lot of their arguments are drawing conclusions that do not necessarily follow from the passages they employ to support their perspective. Also, I think God's hand of judgment is against the American people at this time, and I think we are less likely to see the genuine manifestation of these spiritual gifts in our culture. I have zero experience personally with these gifts, but I am hearing more about this from the global church, and the stories I am hearing do not sound like the fake charismania that I am more familiar with in our culture.

There are wolves in sheep clothing no matter what church you attend. The key isn't in where you attend, but _how you discern_ the leading of the Holy Spirit. Everybody preaches some portion of the truth, but what matters most is eating the meat and spitting out the bones. I grew up cessationist, and even when I saw a miracle take place with the laying on of hands, I was still skeptic until it happened to me! Further study has helped in the reproduction of this healing method. We've all been in weird churches where they abuse the Lord's works. I want to say that most do it out of ignorance, and very few do it out of malice, but I don't have statistics to back that up. Just be discerning in all circumstances.

This was very challenging for me to listen to but thank you for talking about this. The way that the charismatic church of my youth functioned in such an ungodly way is what turned me away from Christ as a young boy (in reality it was probably just my own desire for sin of course, but I felt like it was them). It left me with a deep resentment towards the "happy clappy" church movement and I wanted nothing to do with it. Many years later after a long time wandering around trying to live by my own fire (worldly wisdom), having practically renounced the faith I once fervently held as a boy, did the Lord graciously draw me back to Himself. So, after this prodigal son moment I prayed earnestly to be planted in a good church that would rightly divide God's Word and sincerely love His sheep. Then in His sovereign plan He placed me in a reformed church plant in my area 3 years ago where I am a member and likely to become a deacon. My brother's there have deep theological convictions about extra biblical revelation and sign gifts having ceased and of course, have influenced me in this area of theology. I am in no way advocating by my comments that your guys position on cessationism is wrong or that charismatic Christians are heretics (I see you as brothers in Christ and my past predjudices were formed out of ignorance) but I can't help but wander now if I and my reformed brothers who hold this view have got it wrong. I will be praying that the Lord illuminate the truth of the matter and that all of His sheep will be united in the Spirit and worship Him in spirit and in truth. May the Lord be out help

I see lots of pastors who are respected brothers in the reformed arena and often handle the word of God so faithfully…yet…when it comes to the gifts…so often they are willing to do something they would otherwise hate - eisegesis. Honest…faithful…exegesis of the scriptures that isn’t informed by denominational affiliation or even fears…will eventually lead you to continuationist pneumatology. During a meeting my dad was leading, one of the church leaders started feeling unwell, looking pale and clammy. He collapsed. There was a cardiac nurse present and she rushed to check on the man. She wasn't able to find a pulse. Several people started praying for him and the rest of the church continued in praise and worship. After about 30 minutes, the man sat up and the colour returned to his face. That week he went to his MD for a check-up and the doc was amazed and said his heart was the strongest it had ever been since the doc had started serving him.

The problem is with revelation similar to what happened to Annanias when the Spirit asked him to pray for Paul. Word of knowledge/wisdom is usually related to practical actions. For example, the Spirit of God could tell someone so and so is depressed and contemplating suicide (or struggling with sin) and instruct him to confront this person. This is an example of private revelation which doesn't add to scripture, but has real world consequences.

@@user-mx3kh8rj1t Hi E. Sure. 2 chronicles 5:14 they were dedicating the temple and the presence of the Lord was so strong that they could not stand. That can translate into they fell down when the presence of the Lord came. 1 Kings 8:11 second reference of the above experience. 2 Chronicles 7:1 the people outside the temple fell on their faces before the presence of God. John18:6 Jesus asked the guards who they wanted and they Jesus of Nazareth and said "I am He" and they fell back most likely to the ground as it is difficult not to fall to the ground if one is falling backward. Have you ever studied church history in regards to events and lives of leaders down the last 2000 years? not just their sermons or writings but their lives and the events of the times in which they were ministering. Martin Luther, John Wesley, John Whitefield, Cane Ridge revivals, Johnathan Edwards and the first great awakening 1730s thru 1770s. Also I have found that reading the Bible with an just to see what it says without an ahead of time agenda makes for a most interesting read. There are a lot of strange stories in there. I believe that the Bible is inspired by God and true therefore it has to be able to explain itself without too much struggle. I measure this by what Jesus said about His kingdom. He said one has to be like a little child to enter into it. Being a mother and grandmother now I'm thinking this reference to child is somewhere in the age 5 to 7-8 years old. Hope I'm not too windy here.

As you know I'm sure, 1 Cor.13 says love covers a multitude of sins. If its the enemy and I have no position in the situation to deal directly with it I just back off and remind myself and what ever that creepy feeling is that I am covered by the blood of Jesus and surrender to Him. Best remedy to faulty cessationist claims? Pray for cessationists, love them, and walk in the supernatural power of the Holy Ghost. Never in 25 years of being charismatic have I seen such an irreverence and disrespect toward Pentecostals. Walked away from fellowship opportunities more than once because if you want to be filled up with faith in the power of God to heal and restore, cessationism can be a real drag. This includes leaving 2 women's apologetics groups on Facebook, where Pentecostals were maligned, called heretics, etc, or the power of the Spirit just didn't seem to be present.
@alexglase765

The last time I checked, the reason we do not fellowship with people is because they deny the deity of Christ (2 John), or because they’re not actually Christians in accordance with the attributes found in 1 John, which never mentions the gifts of the Spirit in the entire book. The center of the Christian life and church is not acts of the Holy Spirit, and saying cessationists are dragging on your fellowship really makes me wonder how far you would elevate the experience (which is what can be dragged) over the worship of God. If you’re prioritizing the experience, is worshipping yourself, not God. The Pentecostal movement has people like John Alexander Dowie, who was an obvious false prophet and con man, at its roots… sounds suspicious at best.

Alexandra Cabrera " I lean charismatic in the sense that the biblical evidence for cessationism is thin " Not when Scripture is studied in context. What type of literature is it? What is the historical situation? Who is speaking, who are they speaking to, what is the subject matter, what is the time period, what does the rest of scripture have to say about the subject? What is the grammatical meaning? Do the words used carry their normal grammatical meaning, not some weird spiritually discerned symbolic meaning which can only be understood by some elite prophet, church official, or modern apostle? What is the spiritual conditon of the person interpreting the Scripture? This requires study and not just merely reading, the Scripture. If the interpreter is in a poor spiritual state, he will poorly express the Bible's concepts and ethical principles but if he is spiritually mature and lives in spiritual maturity, he can deeply understand what is in the Bible because its principles, whether doctrinal or ethical, really talk about the depth of the human conscience. This requires the person to be mature in faith and spirit … That's why the apostle Paul emphasized that elders should be prepared and mature for teaching… because the interpreter's spiritual state significantly affects what he says in relation to his understanding and explanation of what's in the Bible. When I come across someone who is following a religion or church that cannot save them, they are blinded to the truth because they want Scripture to verify what they grew up believing; to justify their church. I want to know what God is saying so submission to the Scripture is very crucial. That is one of the main things that walking closely with the Lord does, enabling us to be humble before Scripture and see what God is really saying.

@@rickdavis2235 I hope you weren't trying to debunk Alexandra's comment because you didn't provide one verse. When Jesus listed signs that will follow those who believe, doesn't that sound all-inclusive? What part of "those who believe" do you not understand in Mark 16:17-18? How can you read scripture with all-inclusive language and believe it only applies to those Jesus was talking to? Just because Jesus happened to be talking to a certain group of people doesn't mean that it only applies exclusively to them. Otherwise, you could say that salvation only applies to the people Jesus was talking to in that context and therefore does not apply to this generation. But John 3:16 also uses all-inclusive language and everybody knows that salvation is not limited to the people Jesus was talking to. You also have John 14:12 where you once again see all-inclusive language. The word "disciple" in the four Gospels implies that Jesus was training the 12 disciples for ministry when he sent out the 12 to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons, and raise the dead (the scripture might list them in a different order). Then we see at the end of Matthew 28, that Jesus told his disciples to make disciples. That's more than simply leading them to Jesus. They also need to be trained for ministry. Scripture evidence for cessationism is not thin, it's non-existence. It's based on speculation. None of the gifts are designated as "sign gifts" or "apostolic gifts" in the Bible.

When I was newly born again, I assumed everyone believed the Bible and that God still did miracles through people because that is what the Bible says. I didn't know anything about Calvinism, Reformed theology, charismatic Christianity, or cessationism. But the first time I came across a Justin Peters video, the Holy Spirit called him a faithless theologian and told me to never listen to anything he says. Later, I researched Justin Peters and part of his story is that he sought divine healing for some congenital disorder he has and wasn't healed, so if God wouldn't heal him then God must not heal people. How self-righteous and prideful must you be to have that perspective send you on a vendetta against the charismatic movement?

Another interesting point is that the church with some of the strongest manifestations of the Spirit in the NT-the church in Corinth- *had some of the worst theology and orthopraxy in the NT.* That should do away with the notion that God gives His Spirit’s gifts only to authenticate good theology-or that if His Spirit were active today, it would be in biblically literate churches. The Spirit’s gifts needs to be sought, not quenched. If you quench the Spirit, don’t be surprised when you get nothing.

You missed the whole point of 1 Corinthians! Paul says the Corinthians are carnal Christians! But even they had tongues. They were just settling for tongues and not using the other gifts or deepening their relationship with Christ. Look at it from Paul's perspective --he assumes you know the other churches are practicing all the gifts and maturing in spirituality which is why Paul has to correct the Corinthians and educate them.

I think it's easy to say that one place there is a lack of faith is a hospital. There must be desperation in many hospitals that could equate to faith. There are Christians in such hospitals yet we don't hear of these miraculous healings. Again where the Benny Hinns of this world have claimed healings, these have not been proven. The gifts still operate but not as extensively as often claimed. In my limited experience in going to Charismatic churches for 12 years I've seen no healings for serious diseases and conditions but heard claims of 'soft' healings like bad backs, sprained toes, emotional healing and such like

I’m not sure if anyone will come across this comment considering the video is a year old. If any brothers or sisters see this, please cover me in prayer. I’ve spent the better part of a decade and a half running hard from Christ, that was when i believed I could. I’m embarrassed to admit that one of the more prominent motives has been a disbelief that I can find freedom from the sins that have had a grip on me since the seventh grade. i’ve spent more than half my life struggling with the same few major sins. I’ve tried to flee. i’ve tried to repent. i’ve started over from scratch multiple times. but i have consistently tried to rely on my own strength… no wonder I thought repentance was impossible for me. all that to say i feel very much in bondage to lust and addiction. i’ve struggled with these hand in hand since 2009. at times i’ve sought after God, but for the most part I have run away convinced there was something in me that would never truly love the Lord more than pleasure. I’ve believed the lies of the enemy for too long. i’ve allowed my flesh to rule my life in its own right. Please pray for me. Please pray that i’m delivered from the schemes of the enemy. I don’t know any of the vernacular so please forgive me. I don’t even know what i’m asking for. But i know i need to be freed and i know my only hope is in the cross. If anyone sees this, please pray for broken chains and true confidence in our King.

Early in the discussion Miller talked about being denied access to pray for the sick and recently deceased by hospital staff/police. A genuine question- why is there such a need to be physically present with the person? There are lots of examples of healing in the New Testament where people were healed or received something miraculous when the prayer was made by somebody not physically present. Sadly, the need to be physically present concerns me. Is the prayer for the glory of God, or for the glory of the healer?

I think way we get clarity is to acknowledge that the theology of continuationism is often that the gifts are the possession of the believer and can be used at their discretion. That and, the teaching that it is always God's will to heal. The room you build in your discussion is actually what cessationists say: 1. God still heals but the gifts have ceased and 2. God doesn't heal everyone because He is accomplishing something else through the suffering.

We don't say "Seek the Giver not the Gifts" , we say "Seek his Face not his hand". In context we are to always seek His Gifts but that is not disconnected from relationship. It really is a rebuke to the more prosperity based messaging, or the doctrine that if you have enough faith your life will be perfect because God has to give you what you ask for materially..... If we seek Him to know Him as he commands then we should expect to experience His gifts operating through us. It is really more about balance and priority concerning our christian walk. Good Episode.

58:30, I don't see how that's an argument for I Corinthians 14 tongues not being human languages. I suppose it could be either tongues of men or of angels. The historical Pentecostal emphasis was on human languages. And there were many accounts in the early days of the Pentecostal revival, at Azusa Street and elsewhere, of people hearing their own languages 'in tongues' and then hearing an interpretation. Sometimes the interpretation was confirmed as genuine.

I have been on the fence about the gifts for a hot minute as some of you may know. I went to a VBS/Revival this past weekend, and for the first time, the people in the church, when they felt the presence they were falling or bent over forward. More inclined to be on their face before the Lord. It’s interesting how it’s different in this church culture.

@@GrammyGottaGo They often give links to ppl to access patreon content for free if they can't afford to pay for it, Josh has told ppl to email him if that is the case. Maybe they could help you out with the course, send you a few modules of it that might be of particular interest. It's worth asking? Raising kids again as a grandma must be tough, I couldn't imagine doing it all over again at my age in my mid 40s! When I see grandparents in their 50s, 60s and 70s doing it I'm very impressed at both their energy and devotion to their family. It can't be easy.

I was saved in a Charasmatic church nearly 50 years ago. My early church life was centered in this Pentecostal theology. Later,it was a mixture if Pentecostal and Baptist fellowships,( strange bedfellows for sure!) So ive had good exposure to both belief systems. I believe and have been used in the gifts,but im very concerned about so many strange practices and doctrines of Charasmatic movement in the last 25 years or so. Things like " laughing Revivals ",barking like dogs,roaring lije lions,slithering like snakes,gold dust,feathers,Epileptic like convulsions, and similar things, are bizarre, as well as unbiblical. Personally, i have zero confidence in 99% of the " prophets " today. I believe many are self appointed, most of their prophecies did not come to pass,and they have led many astray. There is so much counterfeit manifestations, that the genuine is despised as well.

I am not a cessationist but I would have called out Todd White on his leg lengthening trick if I had the chance or a platform like yours. (I am not aware if Remnant Radio asked him about it when he was interviewed by them or am not aware of a response by him over what seems like a magician's trick)

Fakers would never glorify God. If Todd White faked it, why is he giving credit to God? The kind of people who fake miracles are attention-seeking glory hogs. When it's authentic, it glorifies God. When it's fake, it glorifies man (the man will not give credit to God). Any healing or miracle can be faked, does that mean it's all fake?
@rev.b.ryngksai
@rev.b.ryngksai 2 жыл бұрын
@@healingthroughchrist1988 1. A giving of credit to God does not make a miracle genuine, a genuine miracle makes a miracle genuine; 2. Todd White has done fake miracles therefore he is a fake miracle worker (have a look at American Gospel - which Todd White said is demonic to discourage people from watching OR Mike Winger's analysis of leg lengthening miracles); 3. How many fake miracles does one have to do to be called a fake? 4. I think that Todd White is interested in seeking of attention, but I might be wrong; 5. If miracles done by Todd White or others are genuine then why are these miracle workers genuinely afraid of scrutiny by friends and enemies. Why be so diplomatic over straight forward issues?

Great show… So what some people may not know is that in one Corinthians 12:1, the word gifts in many translations is italicized. It is not in the original Greek. It would literally be no concerning spiritual‘s brother and I would not have you ignorant, unaware, uninformed, etc. Then in verses four, five, and six he talks about gifts, ministries or acts of service, and operations or energizing‘s/effects, etc. Then in verse seven he defines what gifts are, which are manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Also in chapter 14 verse one, he tells us to follow after love and desire spirituals, or the things of the spirit. So sometimes when you think the word is gifts it may not be if it is italicized.

A lot of straw man arguments being made especially towards the end in regards to what Cessationist truly say and believe. I do appreciate however how the young man in the middle actually did stick up for J. Mac's point of view or at least tried to represent it well. Thank you for doing your homework in that regards. The real sad part of this podcast was when the other two guys couldn't or wouldn't call out Tod White. He is clearly a Charlton and a conman and should be condemned as a heretic.

@ChristianRebel That Jesus was a man in right relationship with God who emptied himself of his divinity and ceased to be God because he walked this earth as a man, and not the unique God-Man. Despite being corrected of this heresy, even by the members of the remnant radio team, he still preaches this false Christ because it sells well when you can promise the vain and greedy power and self-glorification by becoming anointed, working in miracles just like Christ.

Praise JESUS CHRIST. About 1 1/2 years ago I felt like I was being led by the holy spirit when I came upon Street Healing videos on KZbin. So in my ignorance and curiosity I decided to test it for myself to see what would happen if anything. First I started with my cousin (started with people I know first) who had a headache and it was completely gone after one prayer. So at this point I'm thinking alright, this could be psychosomatic so keep praying and see what else happens. Prayed for my aunt next who's neck was stiff after sleeping wrong. So placed my hand on her neck and said "in the name of JESUS I command all pain to leave now." She was completely shocked as to what had happened. All pain was gone in her neck and mobility was restored. Now fast forward to today I've prayed for hundreds and hundreds of people I don't know on the streets, and just going out into town and asking if anyone would like prayer. Some of the notable things I've witnessed....People falling on the ground "slain in the spirit", "drunk in the spirit", feeling peace that they've never experienced before, having visions, people with broken arms feeling tingling/heat and something moving around in their arm, people with cancer feeling super light all over their body etc. Now with that being said I haven't seen everyone get healed. For whatever reason not everyone gets touched by the power of the holy ghost. Anyone just thought I would share my experience GOD bless

Great job.. thank you.. cessationist are just afraid of excess and false gifts and most of all the idea that there is more of God to be experienced that they haven't had.. we all can have a greater experience of God.. let's be humble enough to admit that and desire all that God wants to give us..

The Bible never teaches there will be a New Testament Canon, or that this canon will be closed. Both of these can be true, but since they are extrabiblical teachings, they cannot be allowed to deform what the Bible does teach: continuationism until 2nd coming and the necessity of respecting and seeking the revelatory gifts of the Spirit.

If a lot of these people who belive that gifts and miracles have ceased would come and do ministry to the Indigenous people groups who are steeped in darkness, they would begin to see why God has not ceased to use the gifts. I’m from Malaysia, Borneo and it is because of the Miraculous signs that come with gospel proclamation that many turn to Jesus. You can’t just preach “words” to these communities. It is not to say that we depend on miracles- it is to say that there needs to be more than just mere logical arguments of the gospel. It is sad that they lump up all charismatics to be unbiblical and hate deep study- there are many over here that after miracles have a deep hunger to learn and go deep in theology.

Also if we take one Corinthians 12 versus four and seven, we see what gifts are. From what I can understand, it’s not that we have any particular gift, but these gifts manifest, verse seven, through us as the spirit wheels, verse 11, and as we cooperate with him by faith. This works wonderfully if we operate in love, chapter 13, and in divine order, chapter 14.
