58:18 This is exactly what set me free from a horrible depression that I was under for 2 years: I was a self-righteous, rigid Christian, and it led me down a very dark path, and my inability to overcome it led me into self-hatred. After all, how could a super-Christian ever suffer from depression? That stuff is only for sinners! Well, I was in bondage to the struggle with self-hatred until I got the revelation that self-hatred is actually a sin, and not a struggle, and sin has a solution, which is Jesus Christ! When I repented of that sin, the power of depression broke from my life!

You guys- you are such a blessing. Thank you for digging into all these hard topics. It has always been so mysterious to me how to have our minds “renewed”. I have been saved for years and because of trauma in my early life, I still question my salvation. This show reminded me that I need to repent of my unbelief in the gospel being enough for me too. It is prideful to believe I’m too broken for His work on the cross to be able to fix. Now… to exercise that spiritual muscle. If we would all walk around knowing just how loved we are, how different the whole world would be. You guys are a delight to Lord, thank you for always making me laugh!

Same. I actually used to be so intimate with God, but seems like the more I study theology and hear disagreements between Christians, the more I get discouraged, and the harder it is to tap into that personal relationship again. The main things that do help me are worship and prayer, however I feel like these guys are definitely hitting on something more- meditate on (not just intellectualize) God's word and focusing on what Jesus did for us, what that love really means. Anyway, God bless :]

I'm a theology student and have experienced real deliverance, encounter with the Triune God and correction in my academic pursuits... however, I has been painful and difficult and I often feel a lack of closeness and intimacy with God. I was thinking about writing a book about the journey as I thought it could help others before and during their own decision to be an academic student in the faith.. Sounds like I'm not alone in this strange experience 😱

Strongholds are strategic high places defended by....US (in our minds)! When we accept the devil's half-truth through others, he gets a foothold on us. When we defend that half-truth, WE create a stronghold by our own words. How do we know we have a stronghold? (1) Prayer will not move a stubborn area in our lives. (2) When the Lord tries to help (often through others), we defend our half-truth. The more help, the more forcefully we defend. With a transcript of our words for a day, look for phrases we keep repeating. Strongholds are fortified by a joint venture between us AND the devil. Once God shows us that it is us who are maintaining a stronghold, we repent, and all those blessings that have been held back break forth upon us.

Michael, your prayer ‘Thank you that I’m worth knowing. Thank you that I’m worth loving.’ …There are many Christians who would say that that is wrong-headed, that it is precisely that you are NOT worth loving that makes God and His grace all the more glorious. I have long had a problem with the idea that we are just wretched worms, but then am accused of not understanding the depth of our sin. How do you see the balance?
@michaelmiller5024
@michaelmiller5024 3 жыл бұрын
I’d disagree with teachers that say we are not worth loving. It is antithetical to what the cross itself communicates. God’s love for us motivated Jesus going to the cross. I think it is easy to confuse being unlovable with being a sinner. Sin and separation from God makes it impossible for us to experience God’s love. It doesn’t mean God doesn’t love us. What makes God and His Grace all the more amazing is His willingness to lay down His life for those who rejected Him.

I went through something similar to what you're speaking of: I had been saved for about 5-6 years, and was always very hard on myself, expecting perfection in everything, and also quite self-righteous; and was all in with the whole, "a worthless, wicked wretch is me", mindset. Through a series of spiritual attacks and other things, I fell into a deep depression that lasted for at least 2 years. I was very self-deprecating, and hated myself for what I was going through. One night I was praying, and explaining to God just how worthless and stupid I was, etc., when I felt God's Spirit stop me, and He asked me, "Do you think I see you like that? If I gave my Son, and He shed His precious blood to save you, what right do you have to tell me you're worthless?" I was in complete shock, because I wasn't expecting anything like that. At the same time, 1 John 1:9 came to mind, (if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all iniquity), and it suddenly occurred to me that my whole mindset was not just a struggle, but it was a SIN to hate myself. (If God loved me, what right did I have to hate myself?) When I realized that it was a sin, I also realized that there is a solution: Jesus Christ! A struggle doesn't have a solution; it's just something you have to fight with. But sin is forgiven when it is confessed to God in Jesus' name. From that moment, I repented for hating myself, for speaking evil about myself, etc., and whenever I found myself doing it, I would repent on the spot. God delivered and healed me completely, and I've been free from depression for many years now. Don't get me wrong: I don't think I'm the best thing that's ever happened to God and mankind or anything weird like that, but I have accepted who I am in Christ: beloved in SPITE of my sins and failures, and THAT is what brings people to genuine repentance: the goodness of God! I think somewhere in there is the balance

Question: why would we as Christians ever look to psychology or its principles and methods, instead of relying on our own death to flesh, resurrection, and walking in and being led by Spirit of the living God? I am really struggling with this concept. Our church operates heavily on the principles of psychology, and we have a lot of broken, hurting people that are not finding freedom. I would love to hear your thoughts. My heart is breaking over this reliance on Christian psychology to fix ourselves. Can you help me understand?
@jerrynkathy
@jerrynkathy 7 ай бұрын
I've mulled the question of whether we should be using psychology to help with the problems of life in addition to the Scriptures. I'm convinced that if we saw ourselves as God sees us, free from condemnation, all the "in Him" passages taken to heart, etc., we would need far less input from outside sources. The flip side of the discussion is that, sometimes, Christian psychologists make very astute observations that nobody else sees or brings up and people have their perspective changed for the better. Sometimes, things happen to us that we didn't ask for: the death of a spouse or child, suicide of someone close, an accident that puts us in a wheelchair, etc. Threadbare cliches often do more damage than help. Though we're hid in Christ, no man is an island. We can't go this alone. I would say, start with the Scriptures first but don't stonewall help from others.

Strongholds often can take root in something that may superficially seem to be benign. A television show with that pretty lady who appeals to us on more levels than just her comedic timing. It can be a dress worn, knowing that in doing so, she will get compliments her soul does not need, and the source of the compliments is left with thoughts and feelings that have no place in the Throne Room of the LORD. These are just a couple of instances that, if persisted in, form into strongholds that can destroy us, leaving is open to becoming a demonic playground.

In reference to satan falling like lightning, I think Jesus was talking about something to be revealed later in Revelation 12. It appears to me that Rev 12 is describing the coming of Jesus and all authority being give to Him, thus the accuser of the brethren has been cast down to the earth, no longer able to come with the angels, as we see in Job. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

I REALLY enjoy this channel!! I have a question about the lies I heard and told as a child in a completely dysfunctional home. I was recently told that lies I told as a child in an unsafe home like “I’m fine” when I wasn’t are a sin and I must repent for those lies. Hearing that put me in crisis mode. I was choosing to say what was safe to say, if I had spoke the truth, it wouldn’t have been safe for me. How can that be a lie for a child in an unsafe situation? I was told that to have a full relationship with the Lord I must repent of those lies.
@chelseam754
@chelseam754 2 жыл бұрын
What about renouncing the lies instead? Or asking for forgiveness for carrying that lie with you into adulthood? I don't think the act of you lying for survival is an open door in childhood, or lying in general as a young child, because it's just developmental. But the situation or trauma is an open door

cognitive dissonance - "when the Son of man returns, will He find faith on the Earth?" I think the hardest place for Jesus to heal today would be churches, and increasingly - Spirit filled churches. This idea of c.d. has more to do with changing your attitude to change your behavior. It's little more than behavior adjustment therapy. I understand if Jesus heals someone's body so that they can come off insulin, and that would require a change in behavior (no more 3500 calorie days unless you're doing the Michael Phelps workout). "emotion check" - I mean come on.
