don't forget the idle mix is set by removing the plastic plug on "tip" of the barrel. There is a tiny flat blade screw inside which sets the orange vertical height in your diagram. Brilliant diagram and explanation thanks.

Hi, how do you set both screws as the main one will effect the idle one two. So do you run full throttle and find the mid point between too rich and lean for the main screw, THEN idle and adjust the idle jet slightly? Of course if you rich this a little , there will be a touch more fuel at wide open throttle too? Tricky?

The most complete explanation I have found.Thank you. How about Initial setting of the carburetor when cleaned, all screws were being taken out then reassembled? I know that the bottom screw is 1.5 to 2 turns , but the other, upper one, that from the throttle adjustment? And how to set the best idle ? Thanks.

Came back again to say thank you once more. I got my auger dialed in to real power, and wouldnt have got it even running if not for you. Problems was wouldn't start and when it finally did after shooting starting fluid in it and holding down the throttle, it didnt have much power. If I let go of the throttle it would stall. So I tweaked the adjust screw CCW first and eased off the throttle, still stalls. Then tweaked more CCW and found as I did I had to hold throttle open more. So I went to the CW dir and after 1/2 turn I could start to let go of the throttle although it had not real power. As I started making another 1/2 turn CW I could hear the idle rpms picking up and it sounded great. I was able to drill a big hole in the ground. Thanks again!

Im guessing from watching your video the needle needs to come out just a bit. I put a new carb on it, new plug, new lines, so hopefully this tweak makes it dig like it Badger.

Hi, viewer's please understand that the one adjusting screw which this man talking about is High Screw ie, can be use only when you are revingup and your engine is bogging, there's one more hidden screw where the throttle cable is connected to (in the middle which is pivoting), that is low screw,. You need a special carburettor adjusting screw driver to adjust this LOW screw. Cheers

Hi grate explanation simple and easy to understand well done. Please may explain why these engines are very hard to start even with new cuburator or spark?
@TheRepairSpecialist Жыл бұрын
Hello, Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback! I'm glad to hear that you found the explanation helpful and easy to understand. Now, regarding the challenge of starting small 2-stroke trimmer engines with primer bulbs, even with a new carburetor and a good spark, there are a few common reasons why this can happen. I appreciate that you might already know some of these reasons but i have listed a few reasons to be sure: Primer Bulb Issues: While the primer bulb is meant to help with easier starting by delivering a burst of fuel into the carburetor, it can sometimes be a source of trouble. If the primer bulb is damaged, cracked, or not functioning correctly, it may not be delivering the fuel effectively, making it harder to start the engine. Fuel System Problems: Problems with the fuel system, such as a clogged fuel filter or fuel lines, can restrict the flow of fuel to the carburetor. This can result in insufficient fuel reaching the engine, making it difficult to start. Air Leaks: Air leaks in the intake system, including the carburetor gasket or intake manifold, can disrupt the air-fuel mixture, causing starting issues. Even a small air leak can have a significant impact on engine performance. Compression Issues: Low compression in the engine can also make starting difficult. This could be due to worn piston rings or cylinder walls. A compression test can help diagnose this problem. Carburetor Adjustment: The carburetor may require fine-tuning of its settings. Ensuring that the air-fuel mixture is correctly adjusted and that the carburetor is clean and free from debris is essential for smooth starting. Quality of Fuel and Oil Mixture: Using the right fuel-oil mixture and good-quality fuel and oil is crucial. Old or contaminated fuel can lead to starting difficulties. Choke Operation: Be sure to use the choke correctly during starting. Depending on the engine and temperature conditions, either a full or partial choke may be necessary. If you've already ruled out issues with the carburetor and spark and are still experiencing difficulties starting your trimmer, it may be beneficial to inspect and address these other potential causes. Additionally, consulting with a small engine mechanic or technician can help identify and resolve the specific issue with your trimmer, ensuring it starts reliably. I hope this has helped a little and give you at least some idea about whats going on in your engine/carburetor complex Craig

Hi Craig, thanks for such a good channel. Really helpful and in depth explanations. I was having a problem with a trimmer with this exact same type of carburetor. It will start and idle but it bogs down when pressing on the throttle. But pressing gradually on the throttle and at the same time opening the adjustment screw will rev up and run perfectly for as long as you want. So I assumed there was a problem with the fuel not being sucked out properly and increasingly as the air flow increased. I put everything apart but didn't find anything wrong with the needle o anything else, so I clean everything and put it together and back on the trimmer. And it run perfectly after tuning the adjustment screw. So I fix it, but don't know exactly how.

Every time I opened the choke, the engine died (too little fuel). I tried mix and idle screws in all positions...nothing happened. At the end I had to adjust the position of the needle in the venturi, by one complete turn counterclock wise (upwards) and it is working fine now. Is it normal ?. Do adjustment shims exist for this screw? in order to adjust this needle?

How many counterclockwise i turn to get it just right?
@panagiotiskent.59644 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig! I just bought an old, used Kawasaki TH48 brush cutter 48cc/3hp, which is in excellent condition. The carburetor has a single adjuster screw. Tuning it by ear, it sounds best about 1/4 to 1/2 turn out from the point where the line head starts to spin when on idle. My question is: With single adjuster screws, is it correct to turn the screw clockwise until it's tight and then counterclockwise 1&1/4 full turn and go from there? Or is it completely different than the classic H, L, T screw carbs? Thanks a lot for everything you put out there! Keep on keeping on!
@TheRepairSpecialist4 жыл бұрын
Hi. First of all thank you for your nice feedback, I really appreciate it. As for your question. Are you meaning the Idling screw? or the fuel/air mixture screw? The idling screw should be turned out so that the head just stops spinning (as you have done) and the mixture screw should be adjusted when you are using the machine at full throttle. Turn the screw both ways just a little and get the engine to sit its RPM in a kind of mid point between engine RPM lowering on one side and RPM lowering on the other. When I am at that mid way point, I just take the screw out very slightly (not much at all) to make it a little Rich. I find this helps better when starting the engine and keeps more fuel mix going into engine to lubricate the components. I hope this helps. Craig
@panagiotiskent.59644 жыл бұрын
@@TheRepairSpecialist Thank you for your reply! Yes, I have turned the idling screw to the point where the head just stops spinning. As for the air/fuel mixture screw, is it supposed to be "hidden" or something? I asked a local small engine mechanic about this and his response was that some of these particular Kawasaki TH48 models have an air/fuel mixture screw, and some don't. Is this possible? Thank you!
@TheRepairSpecialist4 жыл бұрын
@@panagiotiskent.5964 yes it is possible. I have come across a few that don't have adjustment screws. Have another god look for it, but maybe it doesn't have one. If it doesn't then this means that keeping good servicing of your Carburetor and good quality fuel, fuel filter and oil is a must to keep your machine running well if you can't tweek an adjustment on it. It's a must for all machines having said that though. Craig

@silverstacker1776 жыл бұрын
Best thing you can start with is to turn it all the way in (gently), and count the turns it takes to come out, then go back halfway, and go from there. Because of different varients of 2 stroke motors, you may need to play with it a bit to get it right. Once you do, write it down and you will never have a problem adjusting that particular carb again.

I was having idle issues the other day, I got the engine running and in real time was messing with the mixture screw. I got it to the point right after it was about to die out and would now idle and left it. Took it for a test drive for about 20 minutes and it ran great. The next day, I gave her one pull with choke and she started and I immediately pushed the choke back in, it died. Never could get it to start again and it was badly flooded, it made no sense to me. Is it possible I have the mixture screw too loose and that flooded it? Perhaps having it so loose is masking some other idle issue? Thanks for the great video!

Hi Craig, I have a trimmer which is not working properly, I have changed the fuel filter and fuel lines, stripped down and cleaned the carb, spark plug has good spark after I got rid of the carbon build up. When I fire it up with choke on it dies after 2-3 secs, it will not fire up at all with no choke on, it has a single adjuster screw which I have turned every conceivable way but to no avail, i did notice it was a damp on the air filter so i changed that as well even though i did not think it was necessary,what next please ?
@TheRepairSpecialist2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Well, I have had this issue with trimmers in the passed. I have done similar things as yourself and found that sometimes new parts have to be fitted no matter how well things have been cleaned and serviced. For instance, I cleaned a spark plug on a recent hedge trimmer thinking I would be ok. It was perfectly clean and had a spark. It would not run correctly until i changed the spark plug for a new one. Another instance was a chainsaw, which I cleaned and serviced the carburetor perfectly, but it did not run correctly until i fitted a new carb. I'm not saying this is definitely the case for you but just a consideration. Its quite difficult to diagnose machines from computer screen because there are so many little things a mechanic notices when they actually get there hands on the item. I hope this helps a little Craig
