I agree! When the Spirit moves you to do something, you should get started right away to do what you can in that direction. For those of us who love gardening, doing anything related to the garden while we cannot actually tend many plants during the wintertime - that helps get us ready for Springtime. Luckily, we are getting into the time where we can start some seeds indoors!

We are renting some space in a neighbors lawn to garden this year! Our landlord won't allow us to garden, be we figured out a way! We are also going to have a small flock of chickens to help with groceries. I am waiting on my seed order from you all and I am so excited! You truly help me so much! Love and hugs!!

Last season I went into my garden and ate salads from there everyday. It was so neat to be able to do that. That was my first real garden that had more than some tomatoes in it. I was able to gift others cucumbers and green beans and I was thrilled that I was able to share with others so that they could enjoy fresh food too.

Last spring I started out with ten 3 gallon grow bags with okra, cowpeas, corn, jalapeños and kale. By summer I put in five 4 by 8 raised beds and grew green, purple and white cauliflower, broccoli, green and red cabbage, collard greens, beets, garlic, onions, carrots, potatoes, Swiss chard, arugula, romaine lettuce and five different types of kale. Looking forward to this year’s spring garden. I made my own compost during summer and part of winter and received volunteer tomatoes and bell pepper plants. They are all out in the raised beds thriving as I’m typing this. I just received another raised bed today and it’s a 3 tier. I’m adding it to the garden space on Sunday. In March I asked my husband to cut out the bush in the front of the house so I can plant food in its place. I plan to turn a lot of our yard into a garden even on the sides of my home. Lord willing March is the month to have it all done. I’m still using pots and grow bags as well. I even grow in cardboard boxes well potatoes at least they have done well. There is so much I want to add. I need to learn how to install drip lines cause as of right now I use watering cans and it’s tedious but I enjoy everything that comes with gardening. Sorry for the book but just felt led to share. It’s a process for sure and anything worth having takes time, dedication and being consistent.

I absolutely think it's a necessity to grow your own groceries! I'm doubling my garden space this year. I can't dig because I need a knee replacement, but I'm just adding leaves, rabbit droppings, & anything I can get my hands on to the garden. I have a tiny unheated greenhouse, & luckily I worked at a local nursery for 14 years & we always were trying to find more space, so I can stack it pretty full. I try to grow as many herbs as I can. My rabbits & chickens love them as much as I do. I live in town, but I have a good-sized yard, so I'm intending on packing it full! I want to breed my meat rabbits for more fertilizer. I might be a senior citizen & everything hurts, but I just keep pushing on & take breaks when I have to. God Bless!

Yes ma'am. I learned my lesson well. One year in Missouri I had beautiful tomato plants. It's the very end of April. Woke up one morning to a surprise freak snow storm. Well I had to restart every plant. 🥶🤦‍♀️ I now have a green house . No heat but at least I can keep that freezing water from getting to my plants. Very easy to create heat naturally in a green house. Time for me to get my seedlings started.

And this year we are expanding our vegetable gardens by 1/3-1/2. Determined to succeed. I have 48 each tomato & pepper seedlings up and more sprouting. Leeks & eggplant following them. I am excited! Agree. I used to murder cactus. laughing... We started growing as much of our own food as possible 11 years ago. I live in an area with one of the shortest growing seasons in the states, yet we have done well. When you taste your own homegrown vegetables, even the organic ones at the store do not taste as good as your homegrown does. Best thing we have ever done. It is so satisfying to grow one's own food. It is well-worth the work & much better for our health in all ways. We made our own sifter with 2x4s joined with screws, with the 1/4" metal screen screwed onto the bottom. Hardware cloth, I think it is called? Stiff & has held up for 4 years so far.

Yes, it is now becoming a necessity to grow your own food. Our season up here in Central Maine is a short one, but we make the most of it! Typically harvest a ton and a half of vegetables, herbs and fruits each year. I can, freeze, ferment, dehydrate and cold store a lot of it. We donate as well. Becoming self-sustainable is more important now than ever. Each year I try something new. Last year it was shell beans for drying. Total success. I grew nine different varieties and ending up with pounds of beans to cook throughout the year. This year I plan to start a row of blackberries. I've always depended on wild ones, but they are almost obsolete in this area. Planted 400 garlic in the fall and I've already started my onions, about 500. Thank you for sharing your videos, I enjoy them!!

Hi there I am a new subscriber , your channel just came up on my computer so I clicked on it and liked what you had to say. You asked what your viewers thought about growing there own groceries, well I am 75 years old and have raised a garden all my life because I enjoy everything we harvest . Lots of fresh food for the table every day all summer and into the winter months and we can or freeze enough to last until the next spring and we share with our local senior center. I always like listening to anyone about gardening because I always learn something different and I noticed the music in the background in this video 😊 I am referring to your chickens, guineas and Ducks, I also have chickens for the fresh eggs and a little extra meat. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and take care.

I've got my sweet potatoes growing slips. So my 2023 garden is officially started. I'm going to start my marigolds, Calendula, and some of my herbs. I keep some herbs in pots all winter and then replant them in my garden when it warms enough. That way I have fresh herbs a winter. I've got most of my seeds that I will plant in the garden which I saved from last years crops. It's hard not to get excited but it's just to early here in Missouri. We've be having a roller coaster if temperatures here all winter. We've had days in the 50s and a few on the 60s but then it goes back into single digits back in forth all winter.

I have a garden of vertical planters in my patio but my problem is the sun. I have very limited light and my plants struggle. Many of my plants also drown because the HOA has a horrible, outdated sprinkler system that overwaters them. So it's been a struggle but I'm going to try again this year and I'm going to place reflective panels so I can get more light. Wish me luck! Miss Puff wants you to cradle her like a baby lol. This year, I've decided I will not buy one start from the big box. I've had a lot of good luck with starting seeds but I usually forget to start flowers and I need more pollinators. Thus, I bought flower seeds and summer bulbs, and I will be starting those seeds this weekend. (I'm zone 6A so can't really plant outdoors until mid-April/early May for summer crops). I already bought by inoculator for my peas and beans and have fashioned new teepees and trellises for my sugar snap peas and snow peas. I plotted a new crop rotation for all my containers (I am urban and have horrible clay soil so my entire garden is in containers). I also have saved a slew of empty plastic bottles I plan to use to build towers for lettuce and such. Super excited about the garden this year. I've promised Mr. M that I will get out and get it done no matter how I feel or how the cancer is progressing. We are also going to get chickens (whether my town will like it or not). I'll make them emotional support animals if I need to!

I am in Detroit, Michigan so I wait until we get a whole week of 60-degree weather before I break ground. Then it is time to section off my garden plots. I will be growing my groceries: tomatoes, lettuce, collard greens, peppers, eggplant, squash (butternut, acorn, yellow, zucchini) lemon cucumbers, and more.

Good Afternoon😊 I am layering my tree logs, leaves & compost for my above ground hugelbed planter. Completing a hoop house that has evolved out of my head🤣. Building soil trays for berries I want to grow in my greenhouse. Planting flowers for my garden pollinators. Selecting which seeds to grow this season. I would love a soil sifter. I am excited and sometimes overwhelmed at where to start but I keep pushing forward. I am so sad as I have loss all of my blooms and baby lemons on my lemon tree because I used a grow light . I do not like or understand grow lights. This is my second one and I am thinking of returning it too!!

This year will be my 1st time starting a garden. 😁😁. I’m super excited and looking forward to getting my seeds that I just ordered from you guys this weekend. We will be growing some of our favorite fruits and vegetables. We do have limited space and our backyard goes down a slope but my husband and I are determined to make it work

For years I've used a combo of my best garden dirt, compost from the pile, and sand. Usually in a 3:2:1 for the heavy feeders, and 2:2:2: for the lighter feeding stuff. I do that in case stuff gets scarce, even if I got to sift sand out of the creek. Will add some earthworm castings and blood meal for extra fertilizer for like cabbage family starts. Also have liquid fish emulsion on hand to boost them to get them as big as I can before going into the ground. Have worked in a commercial greenhouse, and they do it with lots of chemicals to push growth, but try to do it naturally for ours. Can even make my own liquid fertilizers and store if it gets down to it, and am going more that way toward the Korean Natural Farming/JADAM gardening. Goals: Our garden plan is pretty set now. Still working to establish a permabed and medicinal/culinary herb garden. That's a big goal. The other is to 'use everything but the squeal' out of the garden, for example using the apples to make everything we want, then using the scraps for cider vinegar, which has a multitude of uses. The last is to get the KNF/JADAM system going full bore. For growing your own I feel like even if it all doesn't go to hell in a handbasket, say prices double or triple again, or stuff just isn't to be had. You're going to have to stretch that dollar. Our ancestors did it, we can to.
