Theresa May had parliament in stitches of laughter on Friday as she recalled dropping a piece of cheese in front of Queen Elizabeth during a picnic at Balmoral Castle.

After picking up some cheese from a hamper, May said she put it on a plate and went to place it on the table before disaster struck and she dropped it on the floor - while being watched by Her Majesty. Luckily for May, it seems the Queen was not disapproving of the 'five-second rule'. 'I looked at her, she looked at me, and she just smiled,' May said.

I'm not a Tory but I do have a fair bit of sympathy for May in her premiership. She was already coming to power with a poisoned chalice left her by Cameron, and all the hard work she did on trying to deliver a Brexit that wouldn't be a disaster for the British public was rubbished by her own back-benchers. Anything she said got ripped apart by both the opposition and her own side, meaning she would try to say nothing at all. Of course these were the same back benchers who were the ideological fruitcakes and backstabbers who have since come to power and given us a godawful Brexit and shambolic leadership. The ultimate result is that May was the PM that achieved nothing useful in office, not because she wasn't capable, but because nobody would let her. She's going to be recorded in history as one of the country's most hopeless and ineffectual premiers more than likely. Still, I get the sense she's a lot happier as a person now she's sitting on the back seats again.

It's quite tame. Just an example of the Queen's restraint but quiet humour. She was a lady who spent much time out-of-doors in the country-side getting dirty and wet, while hunting or picnics. So even if Prime Minister Theresa May let the cheese fall on the ground, no matter, it would "stay on the table". They would still eat it, in other words, or maybe not eat it, but no fuss would be made. And the Queen's smile would pardon the Prime Minister's clumsy mistake in front of Her Majesty, because she was a very gracious Queen and host. Hope that explains the point of her rather tame "joke", it was more like an "anecdote", really.

@@pranushaaa Okay, so... "5-second rule" is a saying that if some food falls on the floor, you're fine to pick it up and eat it if you can get it within 5 seconds. No bacteria will be able to attach. That's about Theresa dropping the cheese. There's a scientific study that says as much as 30 seconds is okay. And some people call it the 5-minute rule haha. The joke gets funnier the longer the time. I actually have a 5-day rule for bananas... And Wheat Fields I'm not sure, I think it's a political reference to something Theresa May once said referencing a famous American book called "Catcher in the Rye" , but I'm not British, so I'm just guessing.
