We love him at Brighton because he never tried to force his way out, he put in the work always and played his best. When a huge club came calling there wasn't any drama, and we could all see what it meant to him leaving our club. I'm personally not too bothered by the players that leave after a bit of strop, the club model is they're going to move on after a time, and with our chairman we know we're getting a good price, but its always special when you can see a player ready to move up and challenge for titles, who's emotional their time with us is over. What a player, thrilled we got to see him in a Brighton shirt, hope he gets his title.

Thanks for the insight. Props to Brighton for giving the best "welcome back" to Alexis when he returned from the world cup. Some other Argentina players were welcomed by their teams poorly (or lackluster), Brighton gave the all out & had confetti! 👍 I think Alexis/ Macca is a good human being. The way he hugged the Brighton ladies staff (during the Brighton/ LFC match) - one could see that he had fondness for them/ for his former club.

I still get the goosebumps every time I see the second goal of Messi against the Bayern Munich in 2015 (Boateng loosing his balance trying to figure where to go) and hear Peter Drury saying ...here goes again, here goes again.....There were other English commentators that went absolutely crazy every time Messi scored one of his many 1/1 mill goals. Argentina would have not Won World Cup without this guy! I watched them closely, and Alexis really stepped up into the role as the central attacker midfielder who was the glue for the whole team! He was the key that held everyone together, you could even see it on the faces of the other Argentinian players as the tournament progressed and he just grew into the role and got better and better each game! They and me were all thinking, Wow! I knew he was good but I didn't know he was this good!! I genuinely saw him breed confidence throughout the whole Argentinian team, and he took a lot of pressure of Messi! He had the same effect as Kante had on Chelsea and France! The rest of the players looked at him and just thought, theirs no way we are losing with Alexis in the team! Highly underrated, rarely mentioned or talked about, but an absolute crucial component in Every team he's played for! And one of the most down to earth humble players in the Game!👏👍🙏

"The difficult part is to understand that you are not at the same level as him". Very underrated statement. For me, Argentina suffered for so long and couldn't win anything because apart from having an average goalkeeper and defence at the time, a lot of players didn't really play for him in his younger years. I suppose you can argue that he was still building his legendary status and some were superstars in their own right, but that attack heavy Argentina team with Tevez, Higuain, Agüero, Palacios, Lavezzi, Palermo, Pastore etc didn't really realise early enough that they needed to play for him. On the positive side, perhaps it made the delayed victories all the more sweeter.

Listening to this great interview brings back memories of the world cup 2022. As a Dutchman, the game against Argentina left a little scar and a lot of resentment against Messi's behaviour, but listening to Alexis shows the other side of the story. Its good to hear these stories, great interview Gary!

Do Liverpool interview their players before they sign them? Everybody at the club seem to have their head screwed on right and have good characters. It's a great time to be an LFC supporter.

Everyone does that to some degree, even at u7 in academies personality plays a big role in who they keep on. Just speculation, but I know Michael Edward’s (before he left and came back) would spy on people to get an idea of their character😂 he spent 5 days in Jurgen’s hotel observing him and interviewing people who he had worked with previously before appointing him. I’d assume his thoroughness in recruitment remained in the club during his absence, klopp also cared about all the relationship dynamics and implemented lots of changes for the club culture evident with how the players act with the staff at AXA

I love this man so much, for being such a brilliant player for Liverpool, but also for keeping so down to earth and decent to all those around him. This interview truly highlights his warmth, kindness and generosity of spirit. And Gary’s interviewing skills were outstanding, the time flew by. This was a much needed 50 mins of pure joy. Thanks to all concerned for making this happen. 👏👏👏

I know I am biased but how Liverpool can sign players who are great on the pitch and are so humble off the pitch is crazy. I think the philosophy is to find good people first and then improve them as players.

One of the things I love about elite footballers is their general intelligence. Of course he respects Gündoğan and being called in to play like him was the best thing Klopp could have said. These guys at the top aren't just talented athletes, but real students of the game and brimming with professionalism. Midfield talents like Alexis are rare indeed and there is no doubt he will be revered just as Gündoğan has been, or Xavi, or etc.. What a complete person, let alone footballer. Very impressed and hopeful for his future.

I mainly do not enjoy conversations with players as they are just young men and the questions are from a PR angle. Gary is always engaging, the players know who he is and what he did and Alexis turns out to be a very likeable man in this and all his comments. What a star he is also when it's his football doing the talking.
