this swimming pool job is starting to look like a Colin Furze tunnel job. lol

Really need to get it to a stage we can park it and leave for a couple of years because no point having a pool and no bedrooms or kitchen! 😂

Does the pool drain come in after or before?
@TheRestorationCouple4 ай бұрын
@@andrewgriffiths3778 base of pool is around 300-400 up from this so will go in with insulation. 👍

Hi both, thanks for sharing your progress on this project. Good luck with it all, you work really hard and explain everything well. We are also called Tim and Jo and are working on renovating an old dairy in Somerset, we welcome any advice! Thanks, Jo

When carrying mesh both of you step in about a meter, it stops the mess from bouncing

What about plumbing for the drain at the deepest point? Surely you should put in place before concrete pour?
@TheRestorationCouple4 ай бұрын
No all above this slab. More insulation and screws to sit on top of that.

I have an underground rainwater tank built very much like this by the previous owner of our property, but it's just bare concrete. The muppet that made it didn't put a drain in (might not have been practical because where do you route the pipe when it's underground) but they didn't even put a sump where you can put a submersible pump. Emptying the thing is pure joy, I can tell you...

Not sure if you’ve seen them, but just seen Colin Furze using a rebar cutter for the first time. No sparks, incredibly fast, maybe worth considering given the amount of work ahead of you. Think it’s about 24 mins to his lastest video.

Interested to see these blocks and how their holes line up with those 200 mm spaced vertical rods, or maybe that's not how it's going to work?
@TheRestorationCouple4 ай бұрын
The blocks we will probably end up using don’t quite suit 200mm as all in imperial but there is quite a bit of wiggle room thankfully.

Assume the mesh is A393. All very standard with 300mm thick slab. It just gives minimum steel area (0.13%) to satisfy serviceability. E.g. 300 x 1000 x 0.13% = 390mm2. 10mm bars at 200 centres give 393mm2 per metre. Hope this gives a bit more context behind all the hard work!

40mm is thin, need to be sure its well sealed or keep chlorine levels very low in the water

Have you looked into SCC ? ... I used it for my workshop floor slab, super easy install and minimal finish.

Would have been a lot easier than the stuff we ended up with! Not looked at it but may do for other sections.

I'm kind of shocked that the pool slab and walls wouldn't be insulated...

Assume your friendly engineer specified all that steal. Never seen anyone doing double layer before. Could be used as bunker too 😂
@TheRestorationCouple4 ай бұрын
Double layer for there and any suspended slabs single elsewhere.
@jcoul1sc4 ай бұрын
Its structural, so must be double layer, the top layer is in compression and tied together means it acts as 1 solid mesh of steel

You really should consider putting a bottom drain in before you pour. If you don't you may regret it at some point in the future.

I still don’t get how you can afford this mammoth build from the sale of your old house when I first started watching. As ever it’s really interesting & informative but I feel like I’m watching a KZbinr money build now rather than the average couple trying to do DIY like my us. So much equipment & such a big project seems way out of touch for the average person. Sorry got be honest I watch less now as this seems so unrealistic.

If we bought another detached family home we would spend the same budget in one go, just looks like constant spending (which it is) but that doesn’t mean there is any more money or that we are spending anything other than what we had. May appear that way however I can assure you that ‘KZbin’ is not the money tree you assume, far from it for us at least. 👍
