I think the washers would have been fine and you'd only notice them from up close. The span of those roof sheets is massive! I don't envy you unloading them off the lorry.

I think it'll only drive the birds on the roof mad and you'll never see it from the ground!

Hi Tim. If you ever get to grips with logistics you’ll be dangerous! LOL. Going good my friend.

Absolutely the right decision to reject the grey washer/seals - it would have looked awful.

You are building a barn roof, so yes you are being fussy. Especially related to distance and angles from the ground. Some industrial look on the roof will add to the character. No need to worry about the colour of the rubber. Great job on steels (last video) and panels in this video. That was a job and a half unloading those massive spans with all the trimming bits sticking out to damage.

Work out roughly the closest you'll be able to get to them when installed and then view the sample from that distance. I doubt you'll ever notice them from that distance. Especially after a year a grime collects on them...

You asked us to look at the grey washer in the purlin, would you mind putting the purlins on top of the roof and then walk away until you can see the washer so I can make a choice based on realistic perspective. Sent with love Tim

The grey washer would have bugged me too. But i don't see what was wrong with having a standard exposed black hex head? The building is meant to look somewhat agricultural and i don't think a hex head would detract in any way.

No you're not being fussy. It's your house and you want it done the way you want it done. Doesn't matter what anybody else says! (I agree with you though, the grey looked bad)

Although I don't think I would make the switch I guess the grey and silver would catch the light so still be seen from afar

Hey Tim think tv be caps protected the screw head and butyl washers from uv / weather deterioration ,bit of a pain putting caps on all the 8mm screw heads but prob worth it also are you using adhesive putty rolls on the sheet joint overlaps ? be an interesting video for me to watch and get ideas for roof installation what thickness of metal sip roof panel are you using and does that sheet give adequate insulation ? Your videos are Always informative 🤛

Havent noticed the seal and metal washer on dark clad buildings with the molded head screws. Something not right with your screws. Lritty sure they must normaly have a dark seal too.

Don't know if the rubber would like being spray-painted, but I also thought a dab of something might hide the colour, just not sure what Can't imagine it will be visible from the ground anyway though... The washers will probably get dirty after a while anyway and it will show even less. Though I wonder what the life span of those washers is, exposed to the elements like that.

Butyl washers don't like paint as far as i know. Plus they will move, shrink, expand and settle in their lifetime, so paint will crack and flake off.
