There are tonnes of different models built with raspberry pies inside gameboy cases kicking around. All you need is the wifi transfer app on a pc or a spare thumb drive and you're good to go. I plan to build my own but I'm also an olympic grade procrastinator.

It depends what you want to pay for. This is pretty cool for collectors of either consoles or functioning miniatures (I hope the "Museum of Functioning Miniatures" guy sees this once he's back from hiatus!), and for sure developing a technology this small is no small feat. Most of the price probably goes to the creators rather than the cost of manufacturing or actual intellectual worth of it.

Owned one for a couple months now, often wear it around my neck as a necklace pendant, sometimes play Tetris and SMB Deluxe on the go, occasionally play Pokémon Silver but sometimes I can’t see the text. Besides that, it’s pretty playable for me cause I have smol fingers :> overall, my inner geek is satisfied.

I crowdfunded this, and it is actually really playable for me. I can see and read everything just fine and the buttons aren't too cramped for me. It is all part of the charm of this device, being so small. I understand its not ideal for playing games, but it's great to put on a keychain.

Looks like the screen actually has a lower resolution than the original. Otherwise the fonts would be legible under a magnifier and in the (optically) zoomed camera footage.

It may well be the smallest handheld I've seen built yet, although I have seen a build using the shell from a Sega Dreamcast memory card. I don't have the dimensions on hand to compare and the page for the pocket sprite doesn't have that detail either. Crazy either way.

The screen size is not the issue. The resolution is. The OLED display they used is 96x64, so the image needs to be downsized by more than a factor 2 to even fit. If that were not the case, it would be fairly readable even at that size. Also did you just swear in the sentence mentioning buying an EZFlash? Not that I mind. Just curious whether I heard that right.

You can, actually. The apps at 3:08 are for emulating different systems -- gnuboy is for GameBoy and GameBoy Color, nofrendo is for NES and Famicom, and smsplus is for Sega Master System / Mark III (and Game Gear as well, IIRC). Unfortunately, downscaling the NES's 256x224 output to this 100x72 resolution would be nearly unplayable. It'd look something like this: files.catbox.moe/an8ico.png

Idk, I've always loved the SP as a highschool student at the time. It was probably mainly the backlight, clamshell and rechargeable battery though. The DS I got day 1 (when it had no games) and just didn't play it as much......but I sold all of the GBA shit to buy it lol. The PSP I totally fell in love with (it launched with a ton of great games and they kept coming), but that SP had way more time put into it.
