Some of the best 50 USD I've ever spent was on a bulk lot of nintendo products. The games were much to write home about: two gba video carts, batman for gb, and the non-gold ocarina of time, but the consoles? There was a DMG, AGS 101, and an N64 with cables and three original controllers. I'm convinced that I'll never be that lucky again

I actually did that with my saturn collection recently. I've got so much retro clutter I've decided to down size to just game systems with everdrives or their like. I was pretty emotional splitting ways with it but its one of those things where the memories will never go away and those moments can never be recreated regardless if you have the hardware and the game. That being said playing on real hardware versus emulation is night and day.

For some reason I was hearing it like a LA film noir tone: The dark night was draped in shadows, a murky Thursday evening when I sauntered through the market, hunting for a bargain. Sipping on a smooth wine snagged from a sidewalk peddler, I prowled the streets when out of nowhere, this listing slammed into me like the Titanic hitting that icy abyss on its fateful final voyage

That makes me remember that this month while I was buying my groceries at a flea market, right there in a small blanket there was a Gameboy Advance SP 101 that wasn't turning on, the seller was asking for $10.000 Chilean pesos or $12-13 USD most likely I was trying to not to lose my cool when I was learning about the price and without any hesitation I bought. At first the console was flickering after 1 hour of charging, but after another hour, the console turned on, I was freaking out since it was working, not only the console was working, the whole two lights were also in perfect conditions. Definitely the best deal of my life in 2023.

If you notice the switch and pot feel very loose after cleaning with iso, this is because it's dissolved the dielectric grease used to lubricate them. Contact cleaner is more appropriate for this purpose.

I sold my PS3 a few years ago, which I got brand new the first week it came out before you could even buy controllers or games for it. Played only the PS2 versions of FFXI and MVP Baseball 2005 the first month I had it. The 60GB backwards compatible model (with an upgraded HDD) which I used as my main computer running Yellow Dog linux through grad school. Came with the first party carrying bag and the remote control. Had a game recap saved of an MLB The Show game I came back to win down 7-0 in the 9th inning. Lots of memories, excellent shape. I got $100 for it all. Only thing I kept was the PS2 memory card adapter.

HEY! That's super interesting... The Switch Pro Controller D-Pad is bad, mainly because the contacts are super wide. The solution is to put tape on the interior half of them... The GameBoy Color's contacts for the d-pad have solder mask applied on them from the factory? Nintendo knew how to avoid the Switch Pro Controller issue and they still messed up...

Elliot, have you looked into doing any battery-free save mods, by putting in an FRAM chip? I've noticed that Gameboy games seem to die faster than other cartridges (especially Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal). Also, I'd really like to know if it's possible to put an original save file back on a game that has been modded in that way. I'm not sure that handy "Epilogue" gadget you have will properly recognize the cartridge after it has been modified. Think you could try it?

Not a bad find at all. Always nice when someone lists such locally and they’re not trying to get top dollar or close to it. But putting their price at a price that feels reasonable for both parties. Especially due to everything’s conditions. Always annoying when someone tries to get as much as possible for something vintage that usually is a sought after item/bundle but in better conditions. Than they get butthurt when people “ low ball” yet their asking price is too high for their items condition. Always frustrating when they can’t be bothered to be reasonable and accept offers that are reasonable for wherever the condition of theirs fit.

I got the one with the blue label for free years ago, cart only, best find ever was I was on a bus and I went past a house and I swore I saw a NES sitting on a PS1 box dumped in the street got off the bus and indeed it was a NES no cables or anything, the PS1 contain 8 NES games nothing majorly exciting and a load of PS1 game boxes but no games in any of them but not something you expect to see dumped in 2018, there was also a satellite receiver and an Atari 2600 again no cables or anything. I also found some Saturn game boxes dumped in a recycling box outside a house, sadly no discs in the boxes, that was in 2022. goes to show some people still chuck some strange things out.
