I don't think I've ever seen Popeye with hair, but that's a pretty cool figure. I remember Big League Chew and the catchy commercial "You're in the big leagues".

Original Popeye in the newspaper strips, as designed by his creator, had short red hair under his cap. Fleischer and other cartoon studios changed a lot of things, some for the better and some for the worse. "Popeye Classics," the name of this figure line, was also the name of the comic-strip reprints by IDW. These figures are mostly based on the original versions of the characters.

While Popeye isn't my number one all-time favorite cartoon character, he is in my top ten list. I can't really number them 1-10, so I more or less grouped them or lumped them together with Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes at the top, and they're the only ones who were actually numbered. The rest are the Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, the Jetsons, Popeye, some other Hanna Barbera ones. Even some of the newer cartoons like Garfield & Friends, Pinky & the Brain, Animaniacs, and Tiny Toon Adventures. I've been recently watching some of the classical Disney cartoons with Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Pluto, the 🐿Chipmunks🐿, and Goofy. We've also scooped up quite a few of the Classic DVD's and Blu-Ray disks of Looney Tunes. Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Sylvester & Tweety-Bird, and his birdi-guard Granny. There are so many incredible cartoons from back then, and I have so many amazing memories of being a kid in the 70's, back when Saturday mornings were for Cartoons, cartoons, and more and more cartoons!!!!! I really miss those days!!

These are great figures. I was able to pick up the entire first wave when Amazon had them on sale for around $20 each. Two things, though. First, the hat is magnetic (at least mine is). You only need to set it on Popeye's hair. You don't need to press on it to force a friction fit. It's not a very strong magnet, but I can turn Popeye upside down, and the hat won't fall off. Second, the pipes do come out of Popeye's mouth. I appreciate the review and look forward to watching your other reviews of this wave.

Popeye had red hair, as designed by his creator, in the original comic strips and even in the 90s (and maybe even now for all I know) if you read a Popeye comic in a newspaper, he had red hair. The cartoons changed and simplified his design for animation. These figures seem to be based on the original versions of the characters.
