I never watched The Mighty Ducks movie, I was never anywhere nearly as interested in live-action Disney as I was the animated stuff. But I do remember watching one episode of the cartoon, and since I never watched the movie, I couldn't have cared less how very loosely the cartoon was based off of it. I still thought it was really dumb, though.

Yeah--I suspect its short run was due more to the referenced conflict of vision between the folks producing the show. Younger kids didn't know what to think of it, a lot of older kids avoided it 'cause it was a cartoon and they were trying to distance themselves from that sort of things...and adults just didn't know what they were missing. I watched it in HS and enjoyed the heck out of it.

For sure. I remember it being rife with societal and political jokes, but they didn't seem mean-spirited, or an attempt to make a point. It was more like playful ribbing. Tonally, it was something between Pinky & the Brain and a show like The Simpsons. I think it could work today with a slightly more cohesive vision and an older target demographic...but, to your point, not in the current state of entertainment. But to be fair, I don't think 98.73% of what has been made since 2016 is worth a damn, and it probably will stay that way until about 2030. Maybe then it can be revisited.

When we talk about 90s animation nowadays, we usually talk about the Iron Giant, Family Guy because it's still running, The Simpsons because of how much it sucks now, Disney's renaissance era (remember when Disney was actually great?), and the DCAU being the model for mature and well-written animation. There's actually a lot of stuff from the 1987-2006 golden age of animation that's been lost to the sands of time

I watched Mighty Ducks and Freakazoid, enjoyed them both. I never actually watched the Mighty Ducks movies, but I was aware that the show was something entirely different. And I liked what it was, that being a silly action show. I never hear about it much, so it sits in the "did that really exist" corner of my memories. One of my favorite gags was a fourth-wall break in which they had less time to get out of a trap because they sat and waited during the commercial break. Freakazoid was just wacky, with some laugh-out-loud moments. It paired well with Earthworm Jim, a similarily wacky and short-lived show. Freakazoid (the character) even directly referenced it once, threatening to replace his narrator with the narrator from Earthworm Jim. That said, the shows couldn't have been more different. For as wacky as Freakazoid was, it was a "classy" wacky, for lack of a better word. Earthworm Jim was more "zany", and had more action. Both shows were pretty random, though, and that made them fun to watch.

The Mighty Duck's cartoon was interesting, but it was kind of a Biker Mice from mars concept. Kinda odd they didn't do a Duckwing duck, Talespin, or Goof troop take, with anthro duck kids or cast based on the films.

How can you say the Mighty Ducks failed? Disney sponsored the shit out of the team and it worked. That’s why they made the cartoon series and the movies.

Is it strange to say one of the oddest things I remember about the Mighty Ducks Cartoon was that the Goalie was also the Captain? A first for me at the time. :)

So the Mighty Ducks thing is weird: they weren't actually based on the Mighty Ducks movie, they were based on the Mighty Ducks NHL team out of Anaheim (their jerseys even have the same logo, and "Wild Wing" is their mascot in the NHL). BUT, the Mighty Ducks hockey team was an expansion team that was funded by Disney, so their name is actually based on the Mighty Ducks movie (though they've since removed the "Mighty" and now they're just called the Anaheim Ducks).

And Disney doesn't own the team anymore, which is why they are just known as the Ducks.

Freakazoid was the only cartoon on this list that I liked. there was a lot of jokes that had me laughing. Freakazoid supposed to be a wacky and zaney character but there were characters that did stuff so stupid that even Freakazoid was questioning it. like when he hired a new butler to serve him. Butler: I slave away without end and never once had a vacation! Freakazoid: What do you mean? It's your first day here! Then the episode of an alien landing on Earth with an important mission, but can't remember what that mission is. this alien was so stupid that even Freakazoid's patience was being tested. what was this important mission? to tell the Earth's protectors about an asteroid on its way to Earth. they look up... and it's already entering the atmosphere... and the episode just ends. I couldn't stop laughing. XD

I remember a couple of these, the best among them for me, was The Mighty Ducks and ironically I never associated them with the movie. I enjoyed it for what it was worth and each of the characters was awesome to see on the screen. It is a shame it only got such a low ratings and having watched all three movies of the Hockey movies, I can safely say, I enjoy the second one the best of them.

Every kid I knew loved Mighty Ducks, it followed the 90s cartoon trend of badass antropomorphic characters, makes a lot of sense as Disney's spin on TMTN, Biker Mice from Mars, Swat Katz, Street Sharks, etc

I have been a fan of Tex Avery, since as a small child, I enjoyed watch the cartoons he created, in particular "Screwy Squirrel". This may be why I never liked "The Wacky World of Tex Avery" which came out in 1997, a full seventeen years after Tex Avery had passed on. I'm not sure who thought this show was a good idea, but I found it an insult to the memory of the legendary cartoonist.
