Oooooooooooooooooooh man this would be SO HYPE. 0:00 - Opening shot shows classic Godzilla levels of destruction, flaming buildings and a partially melted Tokyo Tower before it switches to a low shot that gradually pans up to reveal the King of the Monsters himself destroying the place with his Atomic Breath. 0:51 - This is also interspliced with a man running through the ruins, seemingly TOWARDS Godzilla as the malevolent incarnate of atomic destruction continues his rampage. 1:11 - He eventually manages to catch up with it, and leaps into the air. A familiar showa-set of effects appear, and the Giant of Light, Ultraman arrives! Godzilla, now noticing a disturbance, turns to face the towering 4d giant. 1:50 - Ultraman immediately charges the King of the Monsters, who responds by firing his Atomic Breath towards the Giant of Light. Ultraman manages to jump over it, but Godzilla bites his leg and drags him down, then through a few apartment complexes before tossing him away like a dirty dishrag. Ultraman manages to recover with a series of backflips, and fires Blazar's Spiral Burrade from one hand. Godzilla turns and uses his Shin incarnations dorsal beams to block the attack, leaving himself open as the Giant of Light rushes back in. 2:17 - Now up close and personal, Ultraman starts molly-whopping the Atomic Nightmare, his greater CQC skills allowing him to easily read and combo the monstrous lizard with ease. Godzilla, however, does some reading of his own. As Ultraman goes to grab him, he activates his Gemstone variants nuclear propulsion and launches into the air, body slamming the Giant of Light with his immense mass before hammering him into the exosphere with one hand. 2:44 - Now partially in space, Ultraman fires a barrage of Ultra Slicer's akin to his Shin incarnation as Godzilla flies up, drawing from his Shin and Showa versions by using the formers tail beam to replicate the latter's nigh-impossible self propulsion. Godzilla tanks the few Slicers that do hit him, but ends up getting decked by a Ground Coating from Ultraman, who tackles him back into Tokyo. 3:11 - Suddenly, Ultraman explodes out of the concurrent dust cloud, a bright purple beam firing off into the air. Godzilla immediately charges out, a mixture between the white-hot plasma of Gemstone Goji and the sickening pink of Shin Goji now emblazoned on his body. This new form proves too physically taxing for Ultraman, who's Color Timer starts blinking as he receives yet more damage. 3:30 - Godzilla eventually flips Ultraman onto his dorsal plates, and uses his Legendary incarnation's Nuclear Pulse to launch the Giant of Light up, before once again firing the same dorsal beams as Shin. This time, however, the King of the Monsters aims for maximum civilian casualties as it rains the beams down in a massive widespread rain of death. Ultraman gets hit by a few, manages to get free, but is powerless to stop as Godzilla razes Tokyo to the ground. 3:57 - Ultraman eventually manages to disrupt the beam attack, but much of Tokyo is left destroyed. Godzilla charges back in, capitalizing on Ultraman's distraction as it batters him about with more nuclear power than he can handle, even going so far as to crack the Color Timer and drag Ultraman through the remnants of Tokyo with one hand. 4:38 - Despite losing the entirety of his homeland, whoever's inside Ultraman still wants to fight on, as the Giant of Light summons the power of Geed's Royal Megamaster, Orb's Orb Trinity and Blazar's Tilsonite Blade and charges back towards Godzilla. Who now empowers himself with the energy of Burning Godzilla, Godzilla in Hell's divine energy, and the red Archetype of Godzilla Ultima and responds in tern. 5:04 - Godzilla once again goes for his Atomic Breath, only for Ultraman to absorb it with the Tilsonite Blade, combine it with Royal Megamaster's Full Power Royal End and blast Godzilla (quite literally) off the face of the planet. Now in the depths of space, Ultraman flies out, hoping that the zero-g enviroment will give him an edge. Godzilla almost immediately closes the distance with Showa Godzilla's flying dropkick, and fires a pair of eye beams ala his Hanna-Barbera incarnation as Ultraman responds with Orbs Trinitium Beam, creating a dazzling supernova-esque explosion that launches both back. 5:31 - Now sufficiently steamed, Godzilla loads up his Spiral Heat Ray, Archetype further adding to the oomph of the beam. Ultraman realizes that it's trajectory is aimed straight at Earth, and thus vows to stop it. Channeling all of the Beams from every Ultraman incarnation (much the same as Godzilla is doing in secret), both unleash their respective beams, which clash and create a space of pure white. 5:57 - As the blasts continue to clash, both old and new gen incarnations of both Giant of Light and King of the Monsters appear behind the composited, each one adding to the blast with their respective beams. Still, the attacks remain deadlocked as the colorful blast within continues to grow in size and power. 6:24 - Realizing that if the stalemate continues, Ultraman will likely overpower it, Godzilla suddenly takes initiative and blasts forward with Legendary's dorsal Nuclear Pulse. The sudden shift in distance causes the blast to shift towards Ultraman, who can't find enough time to repel or add more power to it as it slams into him, causing an explosion which launches him back down to Earth. Still holding onto his charge, Godzilla plummets down after the Giant of Light. Ultraman, now desperate, forms a blade of energy from his arm and combines it with Redman's sabre and Blazar's Spiral Burrade before charging back in. Godzilla, however, slaps the blade aside before locking both arms around Ultraman's waist and firing it's Atomic Breath point blank into his still-damaged Color Timer. Multicolored cracks rapidly sprout and the timer's warning beeps rapidly increase as Ultraman lets out one final yell of pain before he explodes as both impact the ruins of Tokyo, creating one final prismatic nuclear explosion that engulfs the continent. From the ruins, Godzilla rises with naught a trace of Ultraman to be seen, and roars over a sky mottled with grey clouds and barely any light to be seen.

Nice Evangelion/Kamen Rider references in that track art. On another note, y'know I've never been a big fan of Ultraman VS Godzilla aside from the general idea of a crossover but I'll take it any day over Godzilla VS Hulk. And this goes on a musical level too. Thankfully given this is a commission and quite the long one at that it has everything available to be a great crossover score-like song and I was quite hyped for that for sure. Turns out it wasn't disappointing in the slightest. I was a bit worried given I frankly didn't like History Shows Again And Again (just go listen to the song and read my review on it to know why, not gonna explain it again here) but this one is actually exactly what it should have been and then some more. Not only does it perfectly use its extended length to tell a fitting story but what's present in the song fits really well both sides of the matchup in every way possible. I mean, of course the track follows the more standard "Godzilla is the bad guy" thing even tho Godzilla's more so well known as an anti-hero at worst, outright hero at best character nowadays but honestly it doesn't really matter because it's just obviously the course that a battle like that would take if a crossover between the two were to happen: At first near the start of the song we get Godzilla's introduction as he starts rampaging through the city, the classical theme playing while buildings collapse under the might of Humanity's biggest reminder of its hubris. But that is until 0:49 where a seemingly normal onlooker, instead of running away from the devastation, actually gets closer to it as a bright flash of light appears at 1:10, finally revealing none other than Ultraman himself by the time it's done as the two Kaiju now face one another before engaging in battle at 1:51. And what a start to the battle it is. The way it directly goes into a fast-paced heavy and intense segment fits perfectly for the engagement between them. It has the speed to represent Ultraman but the weight to showcase Godzilla's power but beyond that it makes for a great platform for the following segment to spring up from at 2:16. A segment that now feels much more heroic but also has tones of sadness to it along with the previous power and speed that was present which just feels like the natural progression to those two: heroic for Ultraman and to a lesser extent Godzilla but tragic for Godzilla and to a lesser extent Ultraman. But now that all the "basic" sides of the two characters have been shown with those segments, the song goes a step further by intensifying at 2:44 into something that sounds borderline godly. I don't think I need to explain why something sounding godly for Godzilla is fitting but more interestingly I think it also fits Ultraman too. Especially given the segment that comes after which I'll cover in a bit it feels a bit like a "David VS Goliath" scenario where Ultraman is being put on the backfoot, possibly by a beam clash between his Ultra Beam VS Gojira's Atomic Breath, but he's still trying his hardest to win the battle despite the hardships, something further proven by the percussions trying to "restart" the song (IE: 2:54-2:56) but failing at that to represent Ultraman failing as the Atomic Breath makes contact with him, leaving Ultraman seemingly defeated at 3:11. Which then Gojira to continue on his rampage as his theme restarts while Ultraman is left behind, supposedly dead. That is until 3:30 however as the song restarts in an even more heroic and epic way which I can easily imagine being some sort of flashback/powerup segment where Ultraman convinces himself to get back up to fight and defend the city or what's left of it, re-engaging the Kaiju once again after gather back his strength at 4:24, restarting the battle at a scale even higher than before. However it's still quite audible by the tone of the track that Godzilla has the advantage and it's looking quite grim for Ultraman, defeat seemingly closer than ever before. But this time he does not falter as we get one hell of an epic guitar solo starting at 5:03. And damn this guitar solo is good. It starts almost joyful and upbeat to represent Ultraman's second (or, well, third wind technically if you follow what I said) but as it progresses it gets more and more serios and epic to represent the scale and intensity of the battle happening with the shift starting at 5:31. You can just feel the sheer power of those two trading blows in an heroic yet tragic showdown between a creature born of humanity's hubris and an alien from outer space set on defending humanity from its own creation. And this already magnificent solo culminates at 5:57 when the song regains those chants that further ascends the song as a whole into something that truly transcends and feels like a clash of titans on a scale befitting the legacy of those two characters. It keeps that heroism and sadness but more importantly it feels outright majestic, epic in the rawest of senses. It's the logical conclusion of such a bout and it knows it because it goes damn hard at it. It's the type of stuff you wish you could have seen/heard as a kid when imagining two giant monsters clash and it fits perfectly at that in a way that makes you say "even if the one I like loses, damn I'll be glad to have seen it". Really it's hard to describe exactly because it essentially boils down to "it's hype as hell" but it feels like so much more than that. Therewolf's always been great at making thematically epic endings to commissions that go over the top in all the right ways to fit the legacy of the characters/franchises the matchups represent when it comes to major franchises (main other example I have being Build Battle) and this one is certainly no exception. It's furthers that dynamic of having the song feel like a score-like song to a crossover between the two and it goes above and beyond about it in all the correct ways. Honestly I don't see how you could make a more fitting ending to a matchup like that musically-speaking. Overall this track is to Godzilla VS Ultraman what History Shows Again And Again should have been for Godzilla VS Gamera: it fits both characters equally even if it tells a story where one is the protagonist and the other the antagonist, it actually succeeds in telling that story really well and it does so while sounding just as grandiose and epic as it should. Like I said at the start, I'm not really a big fan of Gojira VS Ultraman in a VS setting because it's not a great matchup but this track follows a purely crossover-like course and it's the best one it could have taken in my opinion. It knows what it should and shouldn't do and sounds accordingly to perfection. Hell, I'd say that everything from the start of the solo at 5:03 up to the very end of the track is honestly in the top 10 segments of any Therewolf commissions, possibly even Death Battle-related tracks in general but it could also be novelty bias speaking so I'll stick to the former for now which is still impressive because damn there's some impressive competition out there. This track is everything a fan of classic Kaiju battles would dream of and I'm all for it (and it makes me sad that Pacific Rim has 0 good matchups because I realize Therewolf would make some of the best freaking OST ever for Pacific Rim if he had the chance). Wonderful work with this for sure.

Probably 1) Problems with Ultraman's international license that have plagued the franchise for ages. 2) A natural incompatibility with both franchises. One is a superhero that defeats monsters, the other is a monster that can't be defeated. It would be hard for them to crossover without either company feeling like they'd mess each other's brand image.
