I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that cringes at Naia Okami. ~In my opinion~, she is not a positive inspiration as a Wolf Therian and Werewolfkin myself because she gives off the image of someone who is quirky, strange, childish, immature, and she gives off a shallow representation of the deeper aspects of identifying as something else. Plus, her howling sounded awful (in my opinion); like nails on a chalkboard, her voice, mannerisms, makeup, fashion sense, and pretty much everything and anything else about her to me is not what being a Wolf and a Werewolf is to me. Furthermore, there is a time and place to howl as a Wolf, and just going around, showboating about your identity, to me, is not what a Wolf nor what a Werewolf would do. Wolves know they are Wolves, they don't tell every other being that. Plus, they don't howl whenever/wherever, they howl for a reason. Werewolves don't go running around their homes saying that they are a Werewolf, they keep to themselves.

Technically all mythical creatures are based on real world animals, or combinations thereof. I would see that as validating, instead of limiting. My dominant theriotype is werewolf, which I don't distinguish from a wolf because they're the same exact thing from my perspective. I know this isn't going to be the case for all alterhumans, and I've heard some refer to the two as separate. But I say people should use whichever terminology best describes their lived experiences.

The term ‘otherkin’ is used for people who identify as mythical creatures like elf’s, fairies, dragons and more! The term ‘otherlink’ is used for people who identify as alterhuman while not being an actual alterhuman but still identifies as one anyways! I’m pretty sure this is what it means anyways!

im otherkin/fictionkin and a therian, i feel like otherkin have a worse rep than even normal therians. people with "spirituality" beliefs sometimes would accept the real animal "souls" of therians, but when someone identifies as, for example, im a dragonkin, they say thats crazy. since those animals never existed scientifically. im a dragonkin, grey wolf, alaskan malamute, and german shepard therian, and avianis fictionkin (an avianis is a human-like mythic creature with wings and tail feathers, etc.) and i do spirituality stuff.

I'd point out to them that all mythical creatures are based on combinations of real world animals, includijg humans, so yes, they do exist in that regard. To use myself as an example, werewolves are based on wolves, kitsune are based on foxes, vampires are based on chiropterans, and eastern dragons are based on avians, squamates, cervines, felines, and several others. If you think about it, all mythical creatures fall within the realm of human experiences because they were conceived by humans.

Forget about "supposed to." Animal behaviors are widely varied even among members of the same species, and different individuals will have different likes and dislikes. Animals are complex beings, and we're still learning new things about them. Also, being a therian isn't about having every single trait or imitating every single behavior of one's theriotype. It's about having enough things in common that your theriotype forms the basis for your identity. Life would get quite difficult if you felt the need to act like a gray wolf 24/7. One of my kintypes is Eastern Dragon. I can't very much be expected to fly up to the sun and take a bite out of it.
