Howard Roberts was a cool hipster! I remember seeing this guitar when it came out, but I don't think I ever saw one in person. But it's a cool guitar. with the flat wounds. Great Dr. John story. I loved that guy and remember seeing him in Philly a long time ago when he was "the night tripper". Stride piano, Prof. Longhair .. love it!!!!

Fourth time was the charm for HR at GIT. I see he died in 1992 at 62yo. Keep the guitar, you make it sound amazing! ⭐️ Thanks for the great vid, Shane, always interesting 🎶

Its so incredible to watch you cross genres so effortlessly Shane. Then, to top it off, you are able to teach in such a user friendly way with a rich back ground of stories.

You're so awsome! Love the stories. That sound is so pretty. I'm in Florida and really surround myself with that sound as often as possible as it just makes me feel good! Thank you for taking the time while you're surrounded with crazy out there. The world needs this to get away from the negative vibes. Thank you again. That's that Bossa Nova sound I love. So light and fluffy.

How refreshing your episode is this Saturday. Major guitar that’s served you well. It’s got such a sweet smooth tone. Always loved your Howard Roberts story, cool guy, especially his surprise show up teaching you a dynamite lesson at GIT. Also, your good fortune to discuss so much with Dr. John … wow, what memories. Love your thoughts, Shane. The smooth jazz vibe too.Thanks!🎶🎶

Man, what a great sounding guitar, and flats too. This is reminding me, I’ve been borrowing an old ES 125 from a friend of mine lately. I should try some flats on it.!

Awesome video and great stories. I would love to hear more about the reharmonizing info that Howard Roberts taught you guys that day if you ever feel like it. Anyway, thanks

Saw you play with the Nevilles at the Lone Star Cafe NYC. Last century. You and the band were killing it. I'd say it was one the best live music gigs I ve seen. Hope to one day hear you play live one day again. God bless brother.

hi Eric, that wasn't me probably Brian Stoltz....I was still in High School when the Lone star closed haha. I was in the Nevilles 1996-2004 ish.... Wish I would have been able to go to that place to hear Jaco. Anyway thanks for the comments!

@TheRiotguitar a Yes it was Brian.BTW I also owned an 1967 Epirphone Howard Roberts custom. One of 17 produced. Enjoy your playing and videos very much.

I'm a crap player but I've always been fascinated by these guitars. I had the Ibanez version about 20 years ago, and found a Gibson version more recently. There wasn't a lot of info available about these back then, and there still isn't much around, but the best info I've found was in Mitch Holder's book published Mel Bay titled: _The Jazz Guitar Stylings of Howard Roberts_ . There's some nice HR transcriptions in there as well. Highly recommended.
@TheRiotguitar12 сағат бұрын
wow i didn't know that Ibanez even made one. Very interesting .

The E7#9#5 voicing was also used by Joe Pass a lot. It’s cool because it can be several chords, depending on what you consider the root. Bb9#11 or Fmi(ma7)13.

Super Chops was a great book, I spent my 20 weeks on it in 1980. My favorite H.R. songs are 'Music to Watch Girls By' and 'Lady Wants to Know '.

I have a ‘66 Epiphone HR and it’s an awesome guitar. I also have a ‘94 HR Fusion iii too. It’s just a coincidence that I have two. Completely different guitars.
@TheRiotguitar12 сағат бұрын
wow that's great. I've heard the Epis are actually better...I wanted to talk about that Fusion but forgot....also I know the guy that has Howards main guitar "the Black guitar" and I forgot to talk about that too haha

Shane, great channel and playing! I had that exact same guitar and sold it on Reverb. Kind of sorry I did now. Mine was stamped "second" on the back of the head stock but I could never find anything wrong with it. Those original tortoise shell pick guards disintegrated over time. Mine did so I had to remove it like yours.
@TheRiotguitar21 сағат бұрын
yeah mine disintegrated too haha

please! I need a lot of help with the set up. Honestly that's been the hardest part of doing youtube vids is trying to get it to look half decent....you don't know how much time I wasted trying to arrange and shoot stuff, lighting etc... and it still looks like S^&T hahaha
