Thanks, Dave! My original unit is now 4 years old and still working great. Incidentally, the portable unit (and all butane-powered Thermacells) come with one butane cartridge and 3 pads. And that holster is marvelous and should come standard with the device. I now have four of these things - a portable, a lantern, and two more. I've done a few vids on these units, with more to come as I finally figured out how to refill the butane cartridges.

As always, great, honest and simple review. Always been curious about the Thermacell. Might have to get my mom one to out next to the door on her camping trailer. Sadly, we will still have to use the sprays and creams just due to the simple fact that Oklahoma is just miserable with ticks. Seems we have more ticks than stars in the sky. But the Thermacell could definitely have its uses. Plus the added bonus of hearing the Svea. I love that sound.

Great to hear from you, Brother JZ! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! Ticks are such terrible creatures, aren't they? Awful. I definitely think the ThermaCell could have it's uses for you and your mom! I, too, love the soothing hum of the Svea! -Dave

Great video as usual my friend. I have seen many mixed reviews on these. But my buddy swears by them and I know your reviews are legit that is good enough for me. I would have one by now but up in Canada the butane recharge canisters are expensive. You are right about repellent. Having the option not to put it on your skin is sweet. Have a great week Dave. I always look forward to your videos brother.
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! Its funny..I have heard the same type of mixed reviews. Mine has always worked really well for me in the woods and it's outstanding for get-togethers in the yard. Maybe the refills would be less expensive for you on amazon? That is where I purchase them a lot of the time. It is quite liberating to not have repellent on your skin and clothes. You have a great week, too, my friend and it's alway great to hear from you! -Dave

A+ video Dave I have a couple of the old plain green models, and i love them. Towards wintertime, retailers will usually mark down the refill kits, and that's when I stock up. I'm also glad to see you've added some rice, cheese, broccoli, to your lunch kit . hehehe. , take care, Clark

Thanks. Looks to be better at repelling & larger radius then their small $45 dollar model. Also can get the holster for this one for bout the same total price. 🤔 Think could prep - preheat couple pads ahead of time? Bring them right to point of creating fumes , then store in a good zip lock or equivalent?? Then we may not have to fight the skitters for 15 minutes each time replacing pads. 🤷♂️
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for stopping by, Lee! Nice to hear from you! I haven't used any other models except this one but I hear they are all excellent! Hmmm, an experiment on preheating the pads would be interesting. I don't really have a problem, though, as they seem to start lightly repelling at about 5-7 minutes. -Dave

How about a light wind? Mosquitoes can't operate in a high wind, but maybe a light wind would blow the repeller gas away and the mosquitoes would still fly.
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
I have found this to work pretty well in a light wind, depending on the number of mosquitos. In a heavier mosquito area, this seems to work best when all variables are in your favor. Thank you for watching, Larry! -Dave
@mrwes1006 жыл бұрын
I guess it would be best to be down wind from the unit.
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the unit does create a 10-15 foot "barrier" around you so as long as the wind isn't extreme, performance isn't necessarily dependent upon positioning. Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Haha...exactly right! -Dave
@f22shift6 жыл бұрын
Well this works best in a dead wind for obvious reasons. I think you can make videos on how to use this more economically. There are vids out there on how to modify the canister so I can be refilled. Check them out. Then you don’t have to keep throwing them out(better for environment ). Also people have experimented on using third party pads. I’ve seen one where they said ARS was a good alternative. Another alternative would be to get the liquid version of the repellent. Usually you see them as plug in for homes. Then you can use a dropper to refill the exhausted pads. I myself use a usb version of this type of repellent. Plugs into a mobile charger and it heats up a pad to vaporize the active ingredient. Do they work? Eh I’m not so positive because the area must be optimal eg no wind. Does the active ingredient work? Sure I think. I trapped a mosquito once to test and it seemed to be paralyze before dying. It does beat having mosquito coils which are smelly and finicky to light up. There is nothing fool proof but I believe it helps in reducing in the right conditions.
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! I've experimented with refilling the butane and DIY pads and have found it easier and less time consuming to just purchase them. I also don't find it to be that much more economical but thats just me. I haven't heard good things about third party pads regarding the health risks and performance. Sounds like you have an excellent system there, my friend! -Dave
