Believe me, I know we will start our generator every 6 months now after going thru Helene. We had just checked it out to make sure when she hit and we were 15 days without electricity. We have a spring for water and septic and far enough from our creek, that was a 100 ft river during the storm, to be safe except for electricity. Took 3 days for wifi and internet but otherwise we did shifts to get us thru once we could get gas to keep it running. Get back up gas!!! We have five 5gal cans now to be safe. Generators are great!!

I think the whole world heard about the Big Texas Freeze a few years back. My hubby had bought a generator just a couple of weeks before. We were blessed. And we also have a wood burning stove that kept us warm.

What would Nick do without you finding his gloves...Yup, that time of year for long johns. Christmas market with spiced wine please!
@DFGlows21 сағат бұрын
Good idea to turn the fuel tap off and then let the genny run until the carb runs out of fuel and the genny stops. Doing this empties the carb of fuel. Carbs dont like to sit for long periods with fuel in them, as stale fuel can be bad for the carb components..
@Tinrebel21 сағат бұрын
It’s great to be prepared! You can also keep a few garden solar lights outside and bring them in if power goes out at night, I just had to do that! That’s if you get any sun! 😬 I’m a prepper as well! Love Christmas 🎄 Markets, has to be cold with hot chocolate and a flask filled with “insert alcoholic beverage of choice” here! Yum! Thanks Brian! ☺️

It’s funny, in the UK I think anything more than a few hours away is a bit of a trek. When I lived in Germany I would happily jump in my car and head off on 4 to 8 hour drives! I lived up in NRW, so Frankfurt was a four hour drive away to visit family, which we did regularly. Austria was ten hours of driving away, which we would do over about 12 hours with stops, a trip we did at least once a year, regularly twice, and one year three times.

Roads are easier in Europe. UK is always clogged with road works, or just cars and lorries...
@randomjasmicisrandom5 сағат бұрын
@ ain’t that the truth! I drove up to York recently, took the A1 up, M1 back (from Leicester.) both routes clogged with major roadworks. Then we had a trip to South Wales and the same thing happened. It is so tiring.

Two AM & -36℃ w/windchill here... good news is it's warming up to -31 in a few hrs. OTD in 2013 it was -48.6... so it could be (and will get) colder. Our community has it's own generator, but it's getting hard to find parts for the ole guy. 🖖 may the longjohns be with you

Hey Brian, a word of wisdom from an elder follower.... Go see your friend in Germany . It's obvious your heart is leading you to go. Just buy a ticket on a flight and don't waste precious time trying to drive. I'm sure you won't regret it. I hope this advice can give you a little push. I agree it can be a hassle flying these days but you should have lots of possible flights from where you are.... Just Do It! 🤗 Paul

It always amazes and amuses me when you guys across the pond talk about it being an 8-hour drive to a destination in another country. 😂😂 The capital of my state, Florida, is Tallahassee, and it's 7.5 hours from Tallahassee to Miami,FL. You can literally drive 8 hours in many of our states - Florida, Texas, California, to name but three - and still be in the same state. 😁

Have you thought of getting a good power station? They're much lower maintenance and much quieter than a generator; you could keep it topped up on good days or with your electric grid, and a good one would keep your fridge, lights, etc. going... just a thought!
