self taught people are very often some of the most interesting skilled people. Even tho he hasn't learned music, years of trial and error has developed not just his own style, but his own workflow that was made entirely to fit said style, it's exactly those type of people that can just do batshit crazy things without really thinking about it because they're not bound by the norm.

@@samsemy6825 it's like toby fox! He makes all of his game music without having any schooling to actually make music based on music theory. A lot of his music is toned at a half step (think: fallen down from the undertale OST) so the actual playing of it on an instrument like a piano doesn't actually hit the right notes exactly, but it's still a phenomenal sound track that people still love and listen to nowadays

As someone who majors in Music theory and has been studying it for over a decade, people like you will never cease to amaze me!!! This track is incredible! You keep saying you're not very experienced or knowledgeable but when listening to the finished project you can't tell at all! The key you chose is fantastic and the way the tempo flows with your choice of melody? It's absolutely amazing! I myself have a hard time composing from scratch, so this is very impressive!!

Really cool getting to see the creative process you use for making music! Even for someone who has little to no clue about music like me, the passion and experience were enthralling enough to keep me engaged. Not to mention that the song itself SLAPS. I want to do another run right now just to hear it in-game, haha. Awesome stuff!!

I know you said this isn't a tutorial but, like. You really, really know what you're doing (even if its "I just played with it until it sounded good", that's still a valid method of Doing Things™), and this is probably the only music production-related video I've actually sat and watched instead of skipping around to find the parts I'm interested in. So I feel like if you DID try to do a few tutorials, you'd make some really, really good ones. And on that note, as someone who wants to start dipping their toes into making BGMs and the like, a lot of this is incredibly helpful!! Thank you!

Yes, Krush is a great plugin About a year and a half ago I was experimenting with making dubstep wubs with 3x Osc vs making them with Serum. I used Krush on the google translate voice, it said: "3x Oscillator version" and the other one was "Serum version", then I actually started putting some effort on the serum wubs and called the track "Growls", bc it was a growl bass test, and I changed the drop to "The monster is growling" or something generic like that, Krush really does add a nice texture even when its not an 8-bit tune

@@ThePinkRebel the C# used in the melody is over an amaj. he's playing the third which is one of the least dissonant notes in that chord scale. the dissonance is probably due to the instrument he's using having a chorus type effect, but dissonance is very popular in almost every style of music (if you look at any dominant chord they have a b5 interval which is seen as one of the most dissonant). Even when looking at how our instruments are tuned in western music, because of just intonation, every note is out of key by at least a few cents, just for the sake of making all 12 keys retain similar relationships to each other regardless of your root.
