This video was very helpful in performing this pump replacement. What really complicated this was the fact that the pump was covered in oil from adding motor oil. The diesel fuel that pours out after disconnecting the fuel lines didn’t help matters either. For me to remove the fuel line from output side of the pump required the removal of the grommet that protects the fuel line from chafing against the thru hole that the fuel line passes through. Disconnecting the other end of that fuel was necessary because that fuel line acts like a spring that you are winding up and will screw back in when removing the wrench to reposition for another 1/4 turn ( it’s all you have room for). Another difficulty I experienced was reinstalling the mounting screw that mounts the primary fuel filter to the frame. I gave up on that and just left it. It felt pretty snug when all of the other screws were reinstalled. The Thermo King dealer said I could use Teflon tape as a thread sealer. I skipped the that part because the diesel fuel dripping out was making it impossible to wind the tape over the threads. I lucked out because there were no fuel leaks. These apu’s were definitely not designed for easy fuel pump replacement. The lack of space and the motor oil and diesel fuel all over my fingers did not help matters. The torx bit to remove the cover plate, a knife to cut the tie downs to free up the fuel line and wrenches to remove

(Cont’d) the fuel line and a lot of patience are all that are required. This procedure, with all of the complications took me three hours. I’m sure I will get all kinds of smart ass comments from more knowledgeable viewers, but hell, that’s what you get when you try to help people.

Thanks a lot. Mine start to have the same issue. Now I know what to check and how to fix it.

UnstoppableNick69, I did this pump swap out. This video edits out the nearly impossible removal of these screws and the fuel line. The pump is directly under the oil fill area. If you have spilled oil while adding it, the pump will be covered with oil. The diesel fuel on your hands after disconnecting the fuel lines doesn’t help.

Would a bad fuel pump cause F8 fuse to blow? 7.5 blew, then a 10 amp, but a 15 amp fuse is holding and it's running fine. Fuel pump looks like it's leaking from the wires though.
@shatteredsquare6 жыл бұрын
mine blew a 10 amp fuse too. i've had a 15 amp in F8 slot since then and no problems. My fuel pump was bad, that might be what caused the fuse to blow, but there are a lot of things on F8 they said, engine switch, fuel pump, ignition. 15 amp fuse held and nothing has burned or melted yet.

@MANGAT SINGH Deol This is extremely dangerous. Get the problem fixed. Don't just change the fuse size. Doing so can start a fire and when its sitting within a foot of 200 gallons of diesel that's a fire you don't need.
@TheDieseler6 жыл бұрын
The main loads on F8 are the fuel pump, Fuel Solenoid Hold and Run Relay which includes power running through the On/Off switch inside the engine housing. A weak pump or solenoid can cause this, poor/corroded connections and of course rubbing wires. I often see wires rubbing frame components since these systems are often installed as an afterthought and done pretty sloppily. I can't recommend using higher rates fuses though. Especially since these things are mostly ran while people sleep. You do not want to up your chances of a fire.

Wrong title. Should be "TK evo fuel pump replacement ".
