When I was in military tech school I would put ramen noodles in my thermos with the flavor pack. There was a kurig there I would use for the hot water. Sealed it and in about 10 minutes it was perfect

I used thermos cooking when I was going to college. classmates thought I was weird (probably accurate ), but I graduated with no student loans while they all had loans. coincidence?

No doubt. If you want to eat cheap, thermos cooking is definitely a way to do it. The meal in the video was 1/2 of a knorr side, which works out to fifty cents. The hamburger might have been 15 cents and the bacon was a few pennies. You should post some of the stuff you used to make. I'm interested in ideas.

Thanks for sharing. I've time heat tested Stanley and thermos brand thermoses. The Stanley's however well made are pale in comparison to heat retention to the thermos.

Give it a shot. It isn't a set in stone number, but I know 3 hours works and it is fairly convenient. If it goes a little longer nothing bad happens, the food just stays warm. That is the beauty, as I see it, of thermos cooking. You have a lot of room for error.

There is the 17 oz one that I showed here and they have a bigger one that I think is 24 oz. It's called a food jar if you're looking for one.

@averageiowaguy
@averageiowaguy Жыл бұрын
That one is probably the 24 ounce because it is smaller than a quart. Just pick a container that will fit all your ingredients. Hope you have good luck and enjoy it as much as I do.
@2010stoof

@@averageiowaguy looked smaller than my 24 oz. But quart worked for full bag. Rather have too much room than not enough lol. Played on side to spread out and worked well. A bit overcooked at 4.5 hours. May try 3 next time.

Since you had your pot on the stove, why didn't you just cook it in the pan an on the stove? You wouldn't have to wait 3 hours. You could have had it in like 20 minutes.

This method is used for fuel/energy conservation. Only having to bring your liquids up to a boil and then letting the container finish the cooking for you means your bills are lower and/or you don’t need to gather copious amounts of campfire materials while in the woods. Of course he could have finished it on the stovetop, but that wasn’t really the point, not everyone has a endless supply of money or time. This method is about frugality and time conservation. Cheers!

Thumbs up anyway because it does look good, but it's not cooking. These little food jars don't hold heat well enough to "thermos cook", which involves boiling ALL the ingredients and then storing in a better thermos at high temp for long time.
