Yes!! Great video, had the same P2181 code. Replaced the thermostat because it was stuck open. Also replaced the OEM housing, green top, coolant cover, and the crack pipe. Upgraded the crack pipe with a 42DD crack pipe and managed to do so WITHOUT removing the manifold. It was a PITA, but it was doable. Had to do this twice since the o-ring on the pipe didn't seat properly the first time but I think it was still worth it rather than removing the whole manifold.

I recommend everyone to get a vacuum filling tool for the coolant, it creates a 0.8 bar vacuum so there is no air left, cost around 50 dollar (Here in Norway at least) and is worth its weight in gold. I use it on every car at work, and it doubles as a leak detector when you cant get vacuum because a leak. Takes around 3 minutes to bleed with it and 0.1% chance of overheating or having to refill more than 0.2 liter after driving instead of filling and having to rev the engine and drive until it is hot and refill again that might take over 30 minutes on some cars or even having to wait to it is cold again.
@ferfire96 жыл бұрын
I think its worth mainly if you work on many cars. But if you care about your money and only have 1 /2 cars at home, its just not needed, at least with VW cars. My car bleeds itself without much trouble pretty fast, 2 or 3 runs and the air is all out.

i have 3 Audi XD and my dad has one, i think even for a home mechanic it is gold, saves much time and you can loan it to friends if they need it. at work we have 2 but I had felt the need for having my own as well, as I prefer to be 99% sure the engine wont overheat from a lack of coolant since that happened to me once before I bought the tool

My primary cooling fan just retired so I’ll be back in that area again soon. Do you have a recommendation for a silicone coolant hose kit to refresh all of the old rubber? Hey Humble Mechanic, I stumbled across your channel when I bought my R32 at the beginning of this year which if i recall correctly is around the time you got yours. It has been really funny because our repairs have been close to identical with some occurring at different times. I just got the P2181 CEL and am going to be replacing the thermostat (already replaced the black CTS). I also, coincidentally, got the same P0113 Intake Air Temp sensor code as you. Have you found a solution to this? I have been told that the sensor is built into the MAF and I have done a visual inspection of the MAF wires but it "looks" ok. Would appreciate feedback on how I can rule out wiring vs the sensor before I drop a good chunk of cash on a new MAF. I appreciate your help and please keep up the good videos, they are helping a ton!
@HumbleMechanic6 жыл бұрын
If you have VCDS you can see the temp in the scan tool. The wiggle the wires to see if it changes. Also if you had the key on with the MAF unplugged you’ll get that code
@Shika9066 жыл бұрын
@@HumbleMechanic Brilliant, wish I had VCDS, maybe I can get my local mechanic to help me out with that. I do remember forgetting to plug the MAF in before starting it a few months ago. Turned her off, plugged in, and it went away. I have since disconnected the battery (between two separate scans when I got the CEL) and it either came back or did not erase. Hopefully the CEL is solely due to the thermostat and the other code is a remainder stored as history or something. Trying to decide if I want to go all aluminum housings/pipe or just replace the thermostat. They aren't a problem now but I bet they behave like the mk4 gti flanges (leak leak leak). I'm more in need of brakes/rotors and am looking at doing a big brake upgrade. Watching the thermostat replacement for this car it's hard to say no though since I'll be there with everything off.... wish I had the money, then it wouldn't be a question! It has the green coolant sensor and also an extra 2-wire component that connect directly to the thermostat in the housing. Trying to understand what the extra component does. cant find a PID for it. Keen to understand its function and how it works.

K03sport 1.8t is like a 20 minute job lol. 30 minutes if you don't have a wobble extension and have to move the alternator out of the way

IRL this is a hell of a job for vr5 motor, well at least for me it was. Had to take the radiator off, to access it, did everything as repair manual said put it all together (4+ hours of work as diy'er) aaaaand there's a leak. This happened 3 times, wasted my whole weekend on this. Turns out it was a poo quality seal which connects to the block, ended up with placing original seal added with a high temp hermetic and prayers along with my wife questioning my manhood. After a week it developed a leak in the same area, i just said dang it I'm not going to do this again and put a radiator sealant in the antifreeze (yes I am a son of a female dog to trust it) but it worked, 20k+ miles and still not a problem.

When I changed the housing and crack pipe, i decided its better to pull the whole front of the car off.. just to swear a bit less..

That’s a great way. It’s how I had to do the mk3. The pipe was stuck in the block

I have a question as I'm running around trying to figure out a problem and am out of ideas... I just performed a coolant flush for my wifes Audi Q3 (2016 Quattro) and now I'm running into an issue where the radiator is not sucking the coolant out of the Coolant Overflow tank (this was also replaced for a brand new unit, btw). I definitely have coolant flowing into the heater core (as I'm getting really hot air) but the lower radiator hose is simply not flowing anything. We definitely utilized a vaccum bleeder/filler to load up the new coolant (even drained it again and performed a refill) but we just can't seem to get it to flow through the radiator. Any ideas would be helpful

since this is an upgrade will you put the dsg intake on the car??? it will need a reflash but gains are good and still oem, the lmm is 10mm bigger on the dsg version(same as the audi a3 3.2 250bhp) it´s officiel 9bhp since the r32 only has 241bhp. regards Sören

What do you do with the coolant that sprayed onto the transmission
@HumbleMechanic6 жыл бұрын
Wipe it down or rinse it

You should really try one of those snake radiator clip tools. They're so easy to put into tight holes. [That's what she said joke]. But seriously, they're so easy to use you'll probably never go back to normal clip removal tools.

I have one. I never cared for it. I think it’s because it was a cheap one. The only time I ever used it was mk4 PD egr cooler recalls.

Hey Charles. Can you do an in depth video on how to remove and reinstall the belly pan/undertray? I understand their is more than one and some are missing on my R32. Cheers. oh also should the radiator fans on the Mk4 R32 come on at the same time? My small fan always runs (probably because I have the aircon on) but the big fan doesn't seem to come on that often.

Oh man I JUST installed the DieselGeek pan so I’m missing most of mine too. Lol

Interesting do people remove them? or do the get "removed by nature" if you know what I mean.
@HumbleMechanic6 жыл бұрын
Both. Mostly I’d think from people hitting crap
