Exactly this song is actually the riders modern take Odysseus from The Odyssey coming home to find his wife having contest for a new husband . Here's the storyYears after the end of the Trojan War, the Greek hero Odysseus still hasn't come home to Ithaka. Most people figure he's dead. But we don't: Homer lets us know right away that Odysseus is being held as a (willing) sex captive on the island of the goddess Kalypso. Oh, and sea god Poseidon is ticked off at Odysseus, and sees no reason to let him get home. Back in Ithaka, Odysseus's wife Penelope is getting swarmed by a horde of unwanted suitors. Odysseus’ and Penelope’s son, Telemachos, now a typically moody teenager, gets a visit from the goddess Athene (who was always chummy with Odysseus). She tells him to go looking for news of his missing father. […] Once Odysseus gets home, Athene disguises him as a beggar so he can scope out the situation. Odysseus then recruits the assistance of the swineherd, Eumaios, who puts him up for the night while Athene flies to Sparta to retrieve Telemachos. When Telemachos gets back, Odysseus reveals himself to his son and then heads to the palace, still disguised as a beggar. Without revealing his true identity, he tries to convince Penelope that Odysseus is on his way home and susses out which of his servants are still loyal to the household and which have joined the suitors. By now, Penelope decides to take action: she'll marry the winner of a contest of physical prowess. The challenge? String Odysseus's old bow and shoot it through the heads of twelve axes. You can guess the rest: everyone tries and fails, until the beggar (Odysseus in disguise) steps up. He succeeds, drops the disguise, and, with the help of Telemachos, several loyal servants, and Athene's protection, kills all the suitors in a massive and bloody slaughter. Odysseus reunites with his wife, and everything is back to normal-except that he's just killed all the young noblemen of Ithaka and their parents are furious. The next morning, Odysseus leaves the palace, reunites with his father Laertes, and lays low while the angry moms and dads start looking for vengeance. Just when it looks like more violence is on the way, Athene appears and asks why we can't all get along. This sounds like a great idea to everyone, and peace is restored in Ithaka.

When I was a little boy, I got super sick, i almost died... While I was laying on the couch in the old farm house I grew up in, I had this extremly.powerful fever-dream... In the dream I percieved a tiny pea-sized object out deep in space... It was rocking, back and forth, back and forth... And it was so dense and heavy that time and space an everything warped and bent as it swung back and forth in the deep... Ive never had a dream so powerful ever again... I know that thing is out there, and that it's not just a pendulum .. so glad someone with a voice in rock music, is telling folks about dem Awiens, and Gawd and the Void. Love yall

@@Oi-re2fc just stand outside of a store and ask the people going in to buy you a bottle, or have a homeless guy buy it, that's what I did like literally every Friday in 8th grade. People either say no or laugh and buy it for you, but you gotta make sure the store clerks cant see you asking people or they'll try to run you off. Surprisingly more people would buy me a bottle of Kamchatka than just a lil blunt wrap, that always seemed kind of fucked to me

The Regulator I see that lantern trimmed low burning in our home And though I feel like crying, I swear tonight, I'll cry no more How many times have I prayed That I would get lost along the way? Dream with the feathers of angels stuffed beneath your head The regulator's swinging pendulum Come with me and walk the longest mile Is his wallet leather? Is his wallet fat? For not a year later it's got you lying on your back You should have closed your windows and got another dog You should have chained up all the doors and switched up all the locks And how many times have I prayed The angels would speed me away Dream with the feathers of angels stuffed beneath your head. The regulator's swinging pendulum Come with me and walk the longest mile

Pretty crazy how distinct, and deeper sounding this track was compared to really any other Clutch tracks. It almost feels like it's from an entirely different band. The foreboding lul of the drop-D acoustic over the twangy reverberating electric has this palpable dinginess to it that I can't REALLY find in the other Clutch songs as much as this one. The chorus is one of the few 'oh yeah this IS clutch' parts in the song, which is interesting. I'll shut up now.

I can't help but admire how handy you are there with words describing music. I'm not sure I even know the meaning of some of them but, having heard the track, I somewhat sense what you're talking about. I'd definitely take recommendations from you if you know of other tracks that share this vibe.

@@meMYSELFnU That is very kind of you! Thank you. In regards to songs that sound like this? Well it's interesting, because there really aren't any others like this. Probably why this one is so popular among all of Clutch's catalog. @@jibb1451 Ah, thank you for that list ^_^ I especially enjoyed the NIN track and this got me exploring more of theirs which had me stumble upon some painfully beautiful art... Otherwise, the genre I was going for was dark country. It's true in this case it's been blended with alt-rock though, so I should have specified.
