Hasan is awesome
@DavidSaintloth6 жыл бұрын
Hasan has always impressed me with his intelligence and self introspection. He's a comedian who does a type of comedy that isn't at the expense of any one. He doesn't self deprecate in the heavy handed manner of some comedians as that is their schtick. He reminds me of a young George Carlin mixed with a touch of Chris Rock in how he comments on serious topics while educating those who are unaware of those topics very existence and why they are important and when covered by a comedian with talent also funny. When he talked about what is important that hit home, I also come from a culture where family is everything, as the first American born son of my Ayisien parents I have been given great opportunity and felt the weight to not let them down. I was super fortunate to find myself growing during the time of the pc revolution and fell in love with everything technology and Science, so being a Doctor or an Engineer was not something they had to tell me...it's something I told them and that took a lot of pressure off my shoulders (my other siblings who made other choices weren't so lucky) but I'd not take away the experience of ever present Love and concern for my path that their Caribbean cultural roots instilled in me.

I've watched a lot of podcasts of Hasan but this is by far the best. In other podcasts, people cut him in b/w and won't let him complete but in this podcast you let Hasan speak, just loved it, man. Really inspired me. Thank you!!

Agreed. I've never actually seen Hasan this chill before. I think he must've been jetlagged or otherwise tired. But thankfully none of that took anything away from the content of what he had to say!

Hasan is just killin' it, you were amazing mister, beautiful insightful interview, loved both of you. The Patriot Act is killin' it on Netflix and KZbin. Hasan is so talented and has a beautiful and very in-depth knowledge on different issues. I love the way he represents Muslims, Indians, Americans, and as he says, Brown People in general. He gives a unique perspective on things in the world. Thanks for this interview, both of you were amazing in it. Love Hasan Minhaj, Being Unapologetic-ally Brown.

Very humble and very sincere. True words spoken when pursuing your goals, sometimes you just have to roll the dice and see what turns up. My understanding is that if you do what you feel in your heart you will struggle but you will succeed. If you ever read the alchemist destiny's road is never simple but you will achieve true happiness following that road.

I got along with everyone, but I was mostly a geek, gamer, etc. I went to two different high schools. After I went to the second high school, nobody knew me, so it was like starting over with a new image. I liked my first girl and I think I really developed myself personally. I never really tried for sports because other than soccer, I wasn't really good at it. It wasn't until I got into jiujitsu / grappling / wrestling, that's when I was like, whoa, I am not bad at this. I wish I had found it earlier, but I only had 2 years of high school, so in those 2 years, I competed in tournaments and everything. As an Indian dude though, of course I had the pressure to do well academically but this pressure wasn't from my parents but just from me. I didn't want to fail. I didn't get into my dream school or get that perfect SAT score. I liked math though and I liked fixing / building stuff, so I knew engineering was the thing for me. I went into engineering and I loved every second of it. That was the best time of my life - undergrad. I made a lot of friends. After that though, I hit that point in my life where I was like - wtf do I do now? I couldn't find a job. I then had to do either a master's, PhD, or med school. Of course, my indian uncle convinced me that med school was the right thing. I went to med school, graduated but then I couldn't get a residency because my scores were average and I went to an international medical school. Years went by and I still didn't get residency. I was basically about to give up. So I went and did a master's in engineering again. That's where I'm right now. I'm learning a lot, re-learning how to code, etc. AND taking more medical exams. Now, I got a chance at residency becoming a Clinician Scientist. I probably won't become a doctor, but that's ok because I got a better chance at Google AI lol. The detours in life do teach a lot. I knew that engineering was something I loved and I did grow to like medicine, just not the monotony and memorization of it. I took what I knew and tried to create something in the medical field. For me, the one thing I can say that gave me happiness and was my light in the tunnel - was my mom. I honestly didn't even care at some points about life, but because of my mom and what she did for me growing up, I knew I couldn't give up. My best moments is watching netflix with my family on a late night with takeout.

First of all, I'm so glad I came across this hidden gem of a podcast, as with many things in life, by pure happenstance! You guys really ask the most pertinent and important questions and really connect well to the zeitgeist! And perhaps, most of all, Hasan once again spoke to my mind, body and spirit. I'm so glad someone like him is in the world at this very moment in time and sharing his nuggets of wisdom. I cannot stress enough how I really needed to hear this particular interview at this very moment of my life and how fully present I was in doing so to grasp every single bit of gold dust Hasan had to share. Hafeez, Chris, I know you guys are on your 100th episode and probably don't need much encouragement from a stranger on the internet but I love you guys for bringing shining a light on what's truly true and what truly matters in this life, regardless of one's background. "The Roommates brand of conversation is entertainment like a standup, educational like a TED talk and enlightenment like a sermon," truly does exactly what it says on the tin! Much love and Salam/Peace and support from a grey overcast London, UK, yet a place that suddenly and hopefully now has at least one inhabitant with a newfound sense of PURPOSE, HOPE and most of all MOTIVATION in life to positively contribute to society! :)
