“Definition of Ugly is” is actually the song I related to most on the album especially after I heard the explanation behind the title. I am 60 and I’ve spent most of my life wondering why I’ve never been ‘passionate’ about anything and sometimes faking deeper emotion than I really felt. I’ve experienced love (Lucky me) and loss, deep happiness, fear and anxiety. I think I’ve come to realise that life is actually not a drama - it’s many moments of ordinary with some highlights and some calamity- and that’s ok. Enjoying the highlights and enduring through calamity shapes us and refines us. It’s awesome that you shared your thoughts with her as human beings together. And aside from anything else, or any meaning the song has, it sounds genuinely good. I especially love the guitar break.

The Definition of Ugly Is really hits home for me. The lyrics remind me of So Far Away by AgustD, talking about how he feels so far behind while everyone else is climbing to the top and not being able to find a passion and loving that said passion. Then the chorus saying to keep dreaming and everything will come into light, which then ties into his song Snooze. There’s so much beauty in these 3 songs, music is such a healing factor

Honestly I cried the moment she did. It’s not always easy to talk about our feelings and emotions, but for someone to understand it well when you do is just moving. definition of ugly is has been a comfort ever since the album was released. before i even knew the meaning behind it. and now that i know this fan's story, i find it similar to mine. throughout my life my passions have not been mine. i grew up being told that being a doctor was the best job, and that i could do it. and i really thought i could, because it didn't seem like there was anything else meant for me. i moved across the country to go to college, and applied as undeclared but wanted to do pre-med. as i entered my first chemistry class, i knew immediately that i did not want to be a doctor. i dropped the class, dropped the idea of being a doctor, and was taken back to square one - i had no idea what i wanted to do anymore. throughout life, the only passions i've really had were about music (i was a one direction fan, and now i like kpop). music gave me a sense of comfort that my reality never had. yet, i don't feel passionate about pursuing music. to this day, as a sophomore in college, i still don't know what i want to do. i have ideas, but there is always this fear, this doubt, that i won't end up wanting to pursue that one thing. yesterday, i read past journal entries and saw how many times i've changed my mind about my future. i spent 18 years thinking i wanted to be a doctor, only to find out that that passion was never mine. i say i want to do psychology, but is it because i've been watching crime shows too much? i say that creative writing would be fun, but is it because i find it to be an easy way out? i'm doubtful of myself, of my likes and dislikes, of my life as a whole. who i am? is it really me? and how am i meant to find my passions with the fear that they aren't meant for me, or that they aren't real passions? i'm trying to take it slow, to uncover myself one day at a time, but college is only a four-year experience, and i'm nearly halfway through. i need to have a major chosen by my junior year, and i'm afraid i'll end up picking something frantically like the fan had with her job. but she seems to be doing okay, creating beautiful work. until i figure out who i am, i'll do my best to be patient with myself. thank you, the rose. it may sound cheesy but you guys are my guardian angels. i'll forever be grateful for your music and yourselves. please live healthily and safely.

Very inspiring story. Here is another story you may want to us. Some people are extremely sensitive and empathic. I am one of those people. When someone gets excited, I get excited with them. When someone is upset, I feel upset with them. As a music teacher, it means that whatever emotion or physical sensation is felt by my student, I feel it and use it to guide them in changing what needs to change for better learning and interpretation of the music s/he working on. As a result, you can imagine that I like to spend a lot of my time alone to get over so much transferred energy inside me. It is a different way of living, but so rewarding at the same time. It used to be overwhelming, especially in situation full of negative emotions. Overtime, I have learned to redirect the energy in a way the send it on a more positively constructive direction without denying the existence of the negative emotions and sensations that was at the start of the process. Because a process is what it is and it is continuous and never ending throughout our lives. ... and we keep on growing. This is why I love your work so much.
