Actually, most people have the ability to understand symbolic meaning and this animation obviously wasn't intended to be a literal depiction of reality. So, if you are not autistic then it won't take a degree in semiotics to grasp this concept.

Hi. Just for fun, I was wondering if you could maybe give us an explanation of what type of components would be needed to create a Ghostbusters proton pack. Not necessarily considering weight and size, but just what would be needed in terms of individual components, power requirement, and such...and what a real one might look like if a realistic proton pack was constructed with today's knowledge and technology. What would the Ghostbusters need to do, to create an actual proton pack??

Yes, It is big and complicated. How do the designers coordinate the different sections to work together? There are a lot of machined metal parts. Which software was used to design parts? How did they architect the electrical wiring to each component so that it did not interfere with the electro magnetic fields?

please excuse this silly question, but when you accelerate a particle in a synchrotron, as it gets closer and closer to the speed of light, doesn't it take on mass? And if so, wouldn't it's gravitational attractive force increase? Please feel free to dismiss my question if it's ridiculous.

You probably mean the case of Anatoli Bugorski, there's a nice write up here - www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/01/what-happens-when-you-stick-your-head-in-a-particle-accelerator/512927/ In short, no, sticking yourself in the particle accelerator is no cure for aging.

The animation seems to have some major errors in it. Like using horseshoe magnets to "repel" a particle beam. And solar wind particle trajectories.
@Doomroar
@Doomroar 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah i understand that they are trying to keep it accessible so maybe they though to go with the more recognizable form of a magnet, but since this is a video on a highly specialized topic it may end generating misconceptions on that very public they are trying to reach, wasting part of the effort put into the video. On the other hand it is a cartoon so maybe it is not to be taken as a genuine representation of reality.

They were fantastic! I hope you do understand that they work symbolically and did not try to depict everything in a literal sense. You don't need a degree in semiotics to understand that.
@rationalmartian
@rationalmartian 8 жыл бұрын
I agree Adam. Surely pretty much everyone will understand it is highly stylised and symbolically illustrative. Artistic licence is hardly a complex idea, that most people will not "get". It is a short video under 5 mins long. It seems a little churlish to criticise it for such minor things. Almost like criticising it for the unreal bending arms on the dancing woman.
@azgarogly
@azgarogly 8 жыл бұрын
Adam Rasmussen I do appreciate the quality of the graphics. But it is on scientific matter, You have to simplify things here, but making statements which are plain wrong is unacceptable. It's like middle-school physics class. You explain things a simple way, but not contradicting the subject You teach. Sci-Pop media is about educating people, not creating misconceptions, isn't it?
@azgarogly
@azgarogly 8 жыл бұрын
rationalmartian When You do a video depicting oversea land and simulate foreign language with gibberish, it's "stylised and symbolicall". If You take some real speech and the person says "this is a yellow cow" pointing a black cat, this is wrong. If it is a just a random video made for amusement, it's just lame. Ok, whatever. But when it's something connected to languages or travel. It would be embarrassing. Maybe it's good for humanitarians. Not for science channel.

You'd lose a lot of the energy in the sideways component of the vector while steering the particle around the steeper curve, hence the need for it to be as big a circle as possible. Ideally it would be a huge straight line!

Hi. I really like your videos a lot. I had an odd request. Could you build a ghostbuster proton pack, that was designed and styled after these real-life particle accelerators, so that it has replicas of all the components real-life accelerators have, for their functionality and operations. So that the pack has all components a real-life accelerator would have to operate properly. They dont have to be real components, but artistic replicas of the components, so that the pack would be designed to work, if they were real components. Designed so it would be fully operational by the real-thing, if all the components were REAL...with all the wiring and cables and everything. A proton accelerator backpack, whose design is based on the real-life accelerators you make, but downsized into a pack you can ware, like the Ghostbusters. I hope I explained it, well enough for you to understand, cause sometimes i have trouble getting my meaning across to other people. Thank you for your time, efforts, and consideration in this project build.....
