I can concur there Michael. I have watched a few of the videos and extended them to a young Lad wanting to learn more about the automotive trade. I too started out when I was 11 helping the then teenagers build an engine in a garage, that was in 1966. Eventually finding my way into the world of being a mechanic. Today they call us technicians. Recently retired in 2023 out of a union. Great career and life. As to his knowledge, I would say he has put his time in. We all become wiser with that road wisdom later in life. Anyone that has taken a lifetime and dedicated it to one profession is by and large going to be a real craftsman. When you find these jewels, understand you are looking at history so do not let that opportunity pass one by. Like they say, to collect the check, one must first put in the time. Nothing comes easy. We all learn as we proceed in life. Staying up with the technology is great but, learn from the older ones because they have a different approach. Be it work ethic, mannerisms, way of systematically doing things, they can teach us all a thing of two. What makes these senior techs great is when they acknowledge they are still learning everyday as well. We all benefit when we share out knowledge. I retired out as a heavy equipment mechanic in Washington state under the local I.U.O.E. local 302. Joined in 1975. Whatever one does as a trade, be good, patient at what you do. Mistakes will always be made, that's is sometimes the hard part to swallow but like the horse throwing you, we must always get back on. Never settle for second best within yourself, as this carries forward in your work. When you enjoy what you do when making a living, then everyone around you benefits. Many gentlemen around myself while in my career couldn't wait to get out, retire, etc.. What I did was to make work enjoyable and thus it became where I was like a magnetic for the younger fellers wanting information. It wasn't that I was any smarter but that I always had that little tick of road wisdom to share that kept them thinking. That I believe was my knack later in my career, getting any coworker to be creative with their troubleshooting skills. It was always......just what if...? I sometimes envy the younger generation in this field as is so very interesting. This is how we evolve through learning, being creative.

I find it very interesting to meet professionals who somehow find time to post videos, all the while operating a working shop. For a few years after completing training one can get away with using the skill set you learned, but all the best find a way to constantly upgrade their skill set. I'm blessed to work for a shop like yours, specialist shop, family owned, with a massive reputation of good service. Started as cleanup, now diagnostician, the family allowed all my mistakes as long as I brought more to the table on the next one. A shop like yours and the one I'm in is a godsend. I'm happy for you and your success. The most important thing I see in a business like this is leading people, I've seen it at my own- where you're not good at one thing so you are placed into another. Everyone wins, you stay happy, you're not given up on, and you produce a lot stronger in another area of the shop. I see you did that with your son and that's the mark of a true leader. Other places won't explore a persons other talents. One person we had (passed away) was just awful at R&R, but somehow ended up being so good at interior work and detailing we kept him as that and he made some of the ugliest cars look beautiful and did the dash removals nobody wanted to do without breaking a single item- and when he did the way he'd repair it left us all in awe.

I will say this that I am seriously surprised that the owner was so honest about not being a good employer and actually said he lost a punch of good employees due to him not being a good leader Boss. Plus he talked about all the places he worked at and failed and just didn't give up!! Little bit by bit he would learn more about business and get doors open by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,!! I first watched one of this shops videos and would have never guessed that they struggled as much as he did because they come off as a high end shop but I also realized that they couldn't have been that big making KZbin videos to make extra money which is smart and I have a hard time learning from alot of other mechanics but when I watch the owner do his videos and breaks down every detail of what he's doing and why I completely understand it! So thank you for the videos you guys are doing a great job keep it up!!!

Sherwood hit me up later that same day and did the job in his back yard under a tarp for a more than reasonable fee. Car ran awesome til I sold it. Sherwood still does all our extensive repairs and tires. That was over forty years ago… This family and company still works on our family cars when needed. I too began working on cars when I was 13/14 years old. That was 60 years ago and I still love the work. Although what put food on the family table was my career in designing and maintaining large-scale computer systems, maintaining the family cars was my nighttime and weekend job. Just this past week I replaced the brake pads and rotors on our 2015 Forester along with replacing the serpentine belt, tensioner, and pulley. As for oil changes, I let the local shop do the work as part of the state inspection because they don't make money on the inspections and he has a family to feed as well. When I get to Savannah, I'll be sure to swing by to say 'hello' and thank you for all that you do in the videos as well as what you do for your clients. You guys are the real deal!

Hi guys, This was helpful. Suggestion: on your channel, set up a play list. Shop talk, diagnosing, break it into systems like suspensions etc. It"'ll be easier to use as a resource channel for your viewers and you get more YT hits and your channel will grow. It's a win win situation. Viewers get frustrated if they have to hunt for a solution and it's all jumbled up on one page. Also your titles need to tell them in short order what solutions can be found or it's a general topic on off the wall things and maybe add in humor or how preventive maintenance pays off. Highlight who has the best car that has been well kept up. Do a customer engagement section. Like your channel and see. growth potential Best of luck.

The story of successful people is always 1) keep pushing, don’t give up, and 2) learn from everything that happens. And in my experience #2 is the most important of all - keep learning from everyone and everything around you. There isn’t an experience in life or a person in it you can’t learn something very valuable from.
