Good info. I have been doing a similar rehab on my insertional Achilles injury as well and am progressively getting better. This is a very persistent injury so don’t expect fast results. I am 90 days in and getting much better but still not 100%. What I do that I find helps with the morning stiffness is wrap my ankle with a tensor bandage to immobilize it while sleeping and mornings have been much better. Good news is I am running back at full distances etc but just have some pain while warming up.

Another good vid mate! Would be great to see a part 3 on how to ease back into training and tips for that after having a bad Achilles. My pain level when running is only about a 3 in the Achilles but not sure if i should be training on it really...

Ouchy, and thanks for a really thourough vid on achilles treatment. I`m running after a long period without, (but cyclig and mtb racing).Every time I try and run faster, the achilles comes back, tho I can run steady ok Fine, but im doing a 5k ,xo need to go quicker!

Hi. Love your videos, i've been learning a lot. I just want to ask if I can do weight training while healing my achilles. I cannot run but I cannot seem to imagine doing nothing at all! it's crazy! Is biking allowed? thanks

Great video thanks. At what point should the eccentric exercises start ? I have developed inflammation in my right achilles about 2-5cms up from heel and on my left about 10cm up from heel. Both are quite tender still, I have stopped running but still wake up with stiff tendons that go crack !

What was the severity of your injury? I’m trying to estimate how much time I need to take off. I was running 400m repeats and halfway through the workout I had to stop due to severe tightening. I was able to do a 3 mile cool down afterwards but form was definitely compromised. Not a smart decision on my end. Thanks for the video! Do you have any videos on hip mobility?

Thanks. Very helpful. I have been running a decent amount the last 8 weeks after coming off an injury. This past week I was up to running 8 hours (about 1hr a day plus one longer run) I built up slowly and ran mostly slow except some tempo days maybe once a week. I finally decided to do some interval work and bam I now have soreness on the outside of my Achilles that is sidelining me. I’ve tried self massage, foam rolling, arch rolling etc but it still really tender going down stairs. I’m a zero drop altra’s runner and have been for 10 years. So frustrating. Any thoughts?

You might try doing some explosive strength and agility work (lots of ideas on our channel but think line hops, calf raises, step ups, high skips) that's super focused on getting your body used to moving quickly again. It's possible your achilles just wasn't quite ready for that style of impact yet and needs some 'warming up'.

Should we really need to stop running while Achilles problem or run slowly with low mileage?

This will depend on the injury but as you can see here, there are lots of things to work on and improve upon while you're injured, even if it's not necessarily running long.

I been having pain on my Achilles, stopped running and started going to the chiropractor and he is been working on my for 4 weeks now, he is been doing the Graston technique and I been feeling great until he give me the ok to start Run for just one time for 1 mike I felt great until almost the end that I started having just very little discomfort. Since then I been feeling my calf muscles tight, I wonder if is my Achilles or more like the calf muscle been tight causing the Achilles to hurt? Getting a little impatient I am ready to start running but my right leg is not 😞

Calf tightness could definitely be the culprit here! The calf and achilles sit along the same chain and very much affect one another. Try spending 2-3 minutes stretching the calf off the edge of a stair, 2-3 times per day and see if you find improvement.

The Run Experience , I thought so. Is been so frustrating because I want to run but I don’t want to cause mayor damage. The crazy thing is I wake up and no pain is only when I run or do any exercise that involves the calf, should I void any exercise that makes me have to use the calf in the meantime or should I do the stretching nd calf exercise?

I use my left knee to massage my right calf and vice versa. I lie down on the floor while doing it. Found it much more effective than a foamroller.
