What timing! I grew out my hair like I had it back in 90s. It was shoulder a total mushroom cut. But since I am 50 now, my aged growth wasn't growing like I wanted it. Thicker in areas and thinner in others. My hair was not laying right due to age. But it was a good thing my hairdresser and I let it get to that stage. She went in with a razor and comb technique. First time I ever got one. Now it's fuller and more healthy looking than it has been. I have top length, trimmed around the ears and back. I'm going to work right now. I can't wait for the feedback of my coworkers and customers. Thanks Steve for keeping us aware and never giving up chasing that ideal hair we've been searching for.

One thing that I would recommend people to use is hair clips. Like after a head bath, when the hair are damp, style your hair with a wide toothed comb (preferably with a wooden comb) then put on clips on the parts that feel out of hand. After this you can use a hair spray to help it stick. another way is by applying a styling cream/product before putting on the hair clips. Then let it air-dry. Worked out great for me.

The issue here is specifically they do mens haircuts, because the are barbers not stylists. Most of their clients are dudes looking for that. As you get longer and longer they don't know what to do, because they don't do that. The more you want your hair to do something you have to go to people that work with that. For example if you want a medium skin fade, you're not going to a salon, 1... because they are incapable of doing that. 2. Because they don't do that, most of their clients are women with long hair. Most Barbers clients are men with short hair. You gotta pick the demographic you fit in with more.

I’ve let my hair grow out since late August of last year because I was afraid of getting a haircut. I’ve had many barbers mess up and not give me the haircut I wanted even if I had showed them a picture/video of it. I believe part of the reason why this might happen is due to the fact that I have straight hair. It’s awkward having long, straight hair and looking like a mess. It gave me a middle part and I realized I have a cowlick. If you have straight hair and want to grow it out, make sure to take very good care of it unless you want to feel embarrassed every day.

I tried growing my hair again for 4 months this year. I have always had short hair, so I was trying to achieve the first look. Tried it twice before only to cut it short again because of awkward stage. Then, I researched for styles, and asked the barber for a layered. It was still short, but it was definitely a good starting point as I have tried it first time, seeing it could work growing out. Then next time I came, a different barber of the same shop cut my hair back to zero. I explained it thoroughly just like how I did when I got a layered cut. Anyways, I started from there again and grew my hair. Just got haircut a month ago, I told the same thing to the barber in this different shop, but I just got trim on side and back done within 10 mins. I guess it's better than back to zero. I'll just go to a salon for next cut

I'm going for the "hockey flow" kind of look, similar to the 3rd mannequin you showed in this video. I started growing my hair out from a skin fade on the sides, and a bit longer on the top, this was in October of 2023. I'm coming up on about 6 months of growing my hair out and I'd say the awkward phase for me was from months 2-5. It just recently started to have enough length where I can slick it back and it holds it shape, as well as being able to tuck the sides behind my ears. I tried a lot of different products and my current go to is the medium hold matte pomade from your shop. It gives my hair a natural look, doesn't look shiny like with some other pomades, and it lasts forever. Using a tooth comb too has made my hair look a bit better as well. I have yet to go to a stylist to get it properly layered and shaped, however in about 2 months when I have the desired length I want, that will be my next step. Thanks for the video man!

What haircut should I get in order for it to grow out like this? A fade? A Taper? Or something else?

I am 5 months post short pixie cut. The easiest way for me to grow out my hair is to keep cutting the back until hair is all one length, then just let it grow.

I hope you can make a hairstyle for long hair when the head is square and long, but why does the hair twist when it comes down? I hope you can explain this topic. ❤🙏🏻

I wanted a trim cut, been growing for about 7 months. Asked for a small maintenance snip off the sides and my back. The next thing i knew he took off my whole sides and gave an undercut. Really really gutted now i basically have to regrow my hair

Yes. I feel a bit insecure sometimes when it's getting too long and it may look bad. My hair stylist always says the same, she says I can grow it out, but I should trim it down and I feel like she always cuts sooooo much.... I don't really know what to ask for as I am not a stylist, I just tell her I'd like to grow it long but Idk I always leave with lots of progress GONE! I may need to find someone else.

The place I go has a picture book of different cuts I always show them the picture of specific lengths. Maybe showing a picture of how you want it to grow will help

I wanted to ask this since I've been trying to grow out my hair again. Again cuz i did grow it out once till the perfect stage but butchered it. I won't say it's exactly the barber's fault but i was more scared of the fact that my hair got severely dry and i started having really bad hairfall. Thankfully I'm all good now and my hair is growing healthy again after a year.
@Dazed_046 ай бұрын
So I wanted to ask if there's any way to make sure your hair stays healthy as it grows out. I try to shampoo once a week and use a hairmask and conditioner whenever I do that. Aside from that my hair is quite well now and not at all dry.

For me growing it our helped to keep the sideburns kinda short, also i like to trim it so that the hairs dont come on top of my ear

I've been tring to grow out my hair for years but every time I get it trimmed or shaped I get put off the whole process. For instance my last cut was all point cut and thinning scissors. Now my hair doesn't feel like my hair at all. Its too thin. It should be thick and lush! But now torn between getting it cut back to undo that thinning or whether to just keep growing. The best long hair I had was when I had it crew cut short originally and then just let it grow for 7-8 months. It was awesome then. It felt like my hair!!! Not a styled version of some vague idea of what should be my hair!

The problem is that it always gets to a decent length and they cut the sides way too short with clippers. Where do you cut hair out of? Do you have your own salon?

I'm 33 years old, I've never had a good haircut in my life. I still havent found the hairstyle that i can sport comportably and that doesn't collapse two days after haircut. Im finally at stage 2 hairfall of male pattern baldness, but im growing out my thin, damaged hair, its gets curly if i dint wash but straight and flowy when i wash. I have no idea what im doing.

If your looking for a wolf cut get a mullet just the sides when you have 4 inches of hair then let it grow remember donot cut hair on your crown area and your back

It’s just like for most people losing weight. I’m a fat guy and I’m also growing my hair out. They are both incredibly simple things to do. It’s just that sometimes they are difficult. Super simple but simple ≠ easy.

I grew my hair out for almost two years and it was at my shoulders I finally went to a proper salon and paid $80 not as expensive as you mentioned but that was the most I have ever paid for a cut before. Well she completely butchered my hair she cut it shorter than I asked and she didn't even layer it right. I was so pissed because I felt like I wasted two years growing it. I told her to just give me a fade then, She messed that up too. I didn't notice because I was mad and the next day a coworker pointed it out a very distant line where the fade should have been. She has certificates so I thought I could trust her. I want to try an grow my hair again. the option I went with after she messed up the first one was a slick back with a taper fade. the dam top didn't even blend in when pushing it back.

I have long hair and I have it for 4 years now, the thing is that I shave the lower sides and the back for the last year and you need to go to the barber every two weeks for the shave. Now I want to cut it all out and this time, under any circumstance to shave the lower sides and back. But maaaaaan the process is aweful. If you just let it grow you dont look good at all (props to the giys who uses hats) and it could take 10 months. Amd the safe strategy lile this video (great btw) is 18 months more or less. Do not shave your lower sides and back once you get the long hair! You will regret it

I almost always explicitly tell them to use scissors because I find most men’s places default to clippers

I think the awkward pahase was the most exciting phase tbh now it's below my chest and don"t get me wrong, I love my hair. but it kinda got... boring? it's always perfect. but in the awkward phase it was always slightly different, it didn't always did what I wanted it to do. but yeah that's kinda exciting. I've been contemplating if I wanna cut it short again, just to go through the awkward phase again.

The only helpful thing for me is not caring how it looks like until the hair is the right size. Not middle trims along the way, nothing. Just wait a year and you'll have more than enough hair to be layered properly.

I'm planning on growing my hair out long for the first time ever. I went from shorter sides/back to longer on top, but I think I can find something better. What should I do, it's been about 2 months since that haircut. My hair now almost goes in front of my eyes. 100% straight and fine hair (not thinning). At least at this length anyway..
@olivereaster27787 ай бұрын
same hair type as me, im planning to grow mine out this year too. Im going to keep the sides tapered and tidy until my top hair gets a bit longer i think.
@mattevans16434 ай бұрын
My biggest thing with haircuts is, I always get a skin fade on the sides. I cannot stand hair on the sides or back of my head. Then they always ask, "anything off the top?" "Nah.... don't touch that. And then they always trim the sides for the fade, when I specifically said don't touch it. It always looks good so I never say anything, but it's starting to piss me off, because it ruins what I'm trying to do. Always tell the barber don't worry about that I'll fix it later, but then they do it anyway. The reason it's an issue, is because that is the hair on top of my head, not the side, so after 4-5 months it's completely uneven. I can still work with it, but it's gross when you got this really long spot in the middle and then the sides are much shorter.

Thank you for making this video. I was about to chop my hair off because I am in the beginning of the awkward stage and I was thinking that was the right thing to do. I want to grow it out. I have that Timothee Chalamet wave (which I see you also have another video about). If I want to tame my hair a bit, what products should I be using? I get mad frizzy in the Louisiana humidity.
