One of the most informative knot, tying demonstration’s that I have seen. You do a great job of explaining everything.

Jack, years ago at Quaker Lane Bait and Tackle you taught me the first mono to braid knot that I still use today. Tight lines and thank you for all you do to help teach other anglers!

I enjoyed the video and agree to using Wind-On Leaders. I just came back from a 2.5 day tuna trip and was able catch a couple of school tuna on my wind-on leader system. Thank you.

Hey Captain! Thanks for this video!!! I’m a rookie at shore fishing, and I’m not very good at complex knots! This wind-on leader is the perfect solution for me!

Thanks for all that info. I fish out of Zihuatanejo MX as a Retired Marine and not a lot of options there for things. I am able to get the wind on leaders for the boat from family back in the US. Thanks and the door is open anytime. Semper!!!

Great video, thanks. Here in Europe we don’t have this many types of options we have to tight manually leader when we go fishing Tuna around Adriatic sea, how many LB frontline we should be using for Tuna?! Thanks in advance
@SaltwaterEdge Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! What size tuna are you targeting? That will determine the lb test of the leader

Any preference between hollow core or regular braid? Using a needle to back splice a loop in the hollow core or just the knot in regular braid
@SaltwaterEdge Жыл бұрын
It all depends on your setup and what you are most confident in. Hollow core allows for more line on the reel, but has a learning curve when it comes to rigging and splicing.

is it efficient to put a solid ring / crimp loop at the end of the wind on or just use a knot ... ?
@SaltwaterEdge Жыл бұрын
It can be! It depends on what type of terminal attachment you like. The solid ring on the end of the leader is a proven offshore technique.

Now what do you do with the end of that wind on leader for trolling lures?
@SaltwaterEdge Жыл бұрын
Hi, what do you mean by that?
@Steve-Jody Жыл бұрын
@@SaltwaterEdge so now you have that leader attached….. how do I attach a trolling lure to the leader? Attach a snap swivel and clip pre rigged lures to it? Or do you slide the lure onto the leader and crimp a hook to it and rig as you would a ballyhoo pin rig?
@paulgrey53454 ай бұрын
@@Steve-Jody loop knot or bowline directly to lure

One question is the the mainline braid loop supposed to be around a foot long? Or could it be shorter as long as the leader passes through.

In this system, you can use a swivel with a clip on the braided line to tie the leader..????? Sorry, I'm using Google Translate
@SaltwaterEdge Жыл бұрын
You could, but it would be better to tie a bimini twist or other loop knot in the braid and then do a cat's paw knot connecting the wind on the to the braid
@OnethirtytwoАй бұрын
Fishing hollow core on a spinning rod sucks! You're going to stand there for hours getting sprayed from the roller on the bail wicking water off the line. Do that for 8 hours in the fall, progressively getting wetter and wetter with the wind blowing. You only need wind-ons when fishing conventional gear.
@SaltwaterEdgeАй бұрын
It definitely gets pretty wet but for a lot of anglers its worth it. Most of the guys using hollow core and wind ons are fishing tuna offshore in warmer temps. You can also put a loop into regular braid for a loop to loop connection and avoid the sprinkler effect
@maikp55056 ай бұрын
Screw this, just use mono and splice it to the braid using a Alberto knot.
