There is never a dull moment at Camp Heartwood. It's been a busy couple weeks and in the middle of all the fun BOOM!! my boat motor blew up as I was driving across the lake. Oh well, life goes on and I got to get these stairs finished. Thanks for watching friends!

Have been an avid watcher of the Samurai antics since back in the repairing other contractors mistakes days, and I have to say your monologue at the end holds very very true and you can see it. Making core memories with the kids and family on a whole every single day with an inner peace that just makes you all shine, loving the journey and seeing Casa de Geest come together. Stay strong brother and much love to the fam, thanks for taking us all on this ride with you :) ❤

Wow the ending, I needed that. I haven’t been able to work since 2013 due to a stroke. I made a decision not to sit around no more and at 64, I bought a laser as I love making things for friends and family. I’m teaching myself a design program. My anxiety and depression are still there but my wife says she starting to see the old me coming back to life. Thank you for saying this

Always enjoy your building and pontificating and humor! I noticed the staircase flexing when you were walking up and down it just you. I really think you would not regret supporting those stringers in the middle. Maybe there's a way to hide it by supporting the two middle stringers and doing little cantilever zout to the inside of the outer Stringer

I was just about to point out this weak construction element when you took your comment off my tongue. I agree with you. At least in the middle it is necessary to prop up.

I was waiting for the bracing in the middle but it didn’t come I was also wondering about the tar like product you using on the dock why not on the steps. Love the channel the workmanship, work ethic and family values.
@psidvicious
@psidvicious 11 ай бұрын
Yes, at least 1 midspan brace is necessary. 2 would be preferable. Compounding the problem is that very bottom cut on the stringers, which will make those stringers want to split, under tension, right down the middle, as the material ages in the weather and when multiple people are going up and down. That last riser looked short too.

15:40 , absolutely agree! We have an off-grid property near Mt. St. Helens, and one of the things that brings me the most joy is being able to share that space with my friends and family. Nothing better than being able to get together with loved ones out in the woods! Every project I work on out there, the primary focus is "how does this make it easier for others to be here".

@funtyes1970 jigsaws typically cut on the up stroke, which can absolutely eject debris towards the operator. Is the risk low? sure. Would I take that risk my kids while on an island that requires a 20-30 minute boat ride just to get back to main land? No. Its all fine right up until it isn't. But you do you.

I appreciated the message at the end. That sort of change is too late for me but your stairs still have hope. Some 2X across the grain at the bottom tread tying across the grain to a longeron/stringer along the stair would make them happier. I'd guess you'd noticed the deflection in your video as you edited. Seriously tho--I appreciate your ethic.

Just use a series of strongbacks on either side of the form and a block screwed between them at a couple inches above the top of your panel to allow room for finishing . Zero cutting of screw heads is necessary and your can vibrate the pour for maximum smoothness.

They have a newer product out that’s called a MudMixer, you put a bag of Quickcrete in the hopper and hook up a hose to the machine. Then turn it on and it sends the concrete mix down a short chute that has an auger in it and it meters the water into the mix as it going down the chute. You have to adjust the water so you can control how wet or dry the mix is. No more wheelbarrow, no more shovel or rake, no more hand mixing, just wheel the MudMixer to where you’re placing the concrete and start dumping bags ( it automatically cuts the bag open) of Quickcrete into it and away you go. They’re a little pricey at around $3,000 dollars but as much as you’ve been pouring and with building a house you should look into it. Saves a lot of work and your back, there are some videos on KZbin that show it working. Might be worth the investment, just keep it clean if you would get one.
