In Bengali Panchang, the months are calculated by the solar cycle, i.e., months start with Sankranti. Hence here the definition of mala masa is - any month in which there are two "no moons", i.e., amavasya. All religious activities are not followed during this time. So for us, the definition is complimentary, as shown in this video I think.

Nicely clarified. The corresponding effect in the Sauramana is the occurrence of 2 Amavasyas. The adhika masa comes only in the Chaandramana reckoning - I think this was not clearly stated in the video.

For solar calendars there is no adhik maas but as festivals fall according to lunar cycle the festivals come one month later. Durga puja that falls in bengali ashchin month this year comes in karthik month

I recently asked an elder family member to explain what’s adhika masa, why older people do daan to brahmins and bathing in rivers - they didn’t know ; but I know the concept now ! I m so glad !! After hearing I did guess it must be something to do with washing away sins; but purification is a much better way to explain it ! Thanks for the video 🙏🏼

After centuries of tyranny and misrule and subjugation, the masses in India and various other parts of the world lead a "dead life" where there is absolutely no pursuit of the absolute truth, no self introspection, no internal churning, no self development. Sadly people have started thinking that existing is same as living. Your sanskrit channel is a great resource not just about this wonderful language but it unlocks several important truths for the uninitiated. Your channel spurred the interested in me to learn the divine language and when we can excel in any language ( including excelling in the languages of our invaders) why not samskritam? Since Jan 2020 i started a structured learning program in sanskrit and my life has completely changed and how!!! I enjoy so many things which i was blissfully unaware of earlier. I have lots to study and much much more to learn but im taking some very enjoyable baby steps and i encourage everyone reading this message to start learning our divine rashtra basha. Our own Basha.
