That's such an idiotic take. You think that corporations are tossing away their wealth because they are greedy and want more wealth? If corporate management is truly only motivated by greed, they will still try to find ways to increase profits, instead of tanking their companies and losing all of it. Also, corporations have next to nothing to do with what you are calling "stable economy growth." What you are seeing is economic failures due to inflation, which is caused by government increasing spending and currency printing at a rate exceeding actual economic growth.

It is a real estate company not a food company and profits are growing. The franchisees have to pay increasing rents to HQ and buy food from their processing plants at inflated costs all while being responsible for renovating their stores.. Yes McDonalds is making more money but the operators are making a lot less and could be forced into closing stores.. This sounds like a story that does not end well..

Greed is killing these companies, along with ridiculous decisions. When a company cheapens the taste/quality of the food, shrinks the size of food, sneaks in extra fees, jacks up the price of the food, and continues to pay employees poorly, they will go under. One thing a lot of these fast food companies have failed to recognize is that if you want to stay in business, you have to share some of that profit with the people who break their backs to make your dream stay alive. Decent, reasonable raises should not equal having to raise prices to customers. Also, what is up with all the gloom and doom neutral, gray colors, McDonald's? To me, it looks like suicide. If they weren't the one of the cheapest places to eat at, I would not stop there. Those color choices for a hamburger joint say, "Stay away! Unless you plan on briefly popping-in on your way to work, or a funeral." I've noticed that some of these chains have moved away from family. They got rid of their play areas for kids, and just seem to not be too inviting for families. The color pop and atmosphere is GONE. And now, places like Subway want to charge all these extra fees for the things they add to sandwiches (which use to be already be included in the pricing), such as cheese. What should be a $8 to $10 sandwich (from what the pricing says) ends up being a $14 sandwich because of the new, hidden fees associated with the toppings. That's dirty business, if you ask me. I wonder who is responsible for creating these new changes, and how come they don't tell the customers until they ring up the price? I feel bad for the employees who are forced to implement these practices, just to keep their jobs. It's sad.

Price of food ingredients has gone way up, especially beef. And availability is limited or at the least slowed down. I see empty shelves in Wal-Mart, grocery stores, and most stores in general. Discontinued items and brands. The restaurants and fast food places have to raise their prices, because they are having to pay more, too. Unfortunately, we the public can't afford to buy their meals. Service has gone down hill, too.

Where KFC is concerned, it went downhill when Yum brands took over. I worked for 2 different KFC's, one in Evansville, Indiana, and the other in my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Evansville stores were franchisee run, while the ones in Cincinnati were under the umbrella of Pepsico. Both were run with very high standards, while the Yum brands umbrella seems to not care about the customer. These days you get product that was cooked in very old shortening, which makes the coloration very dark, and the taste is god awful. Under Pepsico they let each FF entities control the procedures for their stores. We had strict corporate standards, as well as strict local/state health code standards to up hold. In order to make sure we were doing our jobs, KFC had mystery shoppers come into each store, or through the drive thru, depending on the instruction. I myself had gotten "TAGGED" several times, and each time passed with flying colors. Not only did it tell corporate how we were doing, but the GM, and Assistant Managers bonuses depended on it.

In what's left of California, employers are now required to pay the minimum wage of $20 per hour. This is killing all kinds of restaurants, big and small. People have stopped going to fast food places, because a single combo of burger, fries and a drink can set you back over $20. Fast food is just not worth it anymore. Subway is losing money and customers, and closing stores because the quality of food is beginning to SUCK! Before when I order a sandwich the meat falls off cause they give a generous amount. Now you can count in one hand how many pieces of chicken or roast beef/turkey they put in, and its as thin as paper. They even skimp on vegetables even if those will be thrown away at the end of the day. Worst, these tiny fillings taste mediocre. Subway is headed to a downfall.

I agree with most of the comments already stated. Food quality, portion size and higher costs are the primary reasons for the majority of the closings. Also, while everything was shut down during the pandemic, people realized the amount of money that was spent (wasted) on fast food and actually learned how to cook. I'm even seeing commercials stating that fast food prices are nearly as high as some sit down restaurants for a lunch time meal. Quality is no longer a goal of these places, it's all about profits.
