Rachel got a bit sidetracked on the steal, almost running out of time. She was too busy being snarky and it seemed Owen simply replied "who?," (and he does have the right to reply, players do it all the time). She came off almost bothered by that. She clearly has a desire to win, she's a great player, but if she really does get that flustered, there are definitely opponents that will try to get to her with that knowledge.

The correct decision was made on that challenge for sure. The question asks "What is Dante's answer?" not "What is the title of the movie". I don't think the fact that Ben answered the full title afterwards really matters. In teams if one team mate answers and then another corrects them, surely we have to take the first answer and first answer only? Also, Ben standing up and screaming "They were talking the whole time!" was absurd. Rachel initiated the conversation with a dig at the other team. You can't give the other team shit while you're in the middle of answering a question then throw a hissy fit if they respond.

I disagree. You can talk when you're answering and talk between questions. Talking while the other team is answering is crossing the line. If they had a problem with that, they should have waited. Rachel should not have been so snarky, but at least she waited until after they answered. It's especially problematic since Vinnie did the exact same thing in round 1 when Rachel had to repeat on Dreyfus. She should have challenged that. Stop talking over your competitors during the question!!!!

Box office means fuck all when it comes to Kevin Smith movies though, Clerks in particular, and considering the two guys being asked are both american males who like movies, you can pretty much guarantee they've both seen it. Plus, this is Clerks we're talking about, not bloody Tusk. It did incredibly well at the time, it was one of the most successful home video releases of the 90's, it's been re-released on DVD and bluray multiple times, and it's been available on every streaming platform at one point or another. There's no excuse not to have seen it.

I really like Ben and have zero knowledge of Rachel, but I fully assume she is a great too. That's what makes them being "heels" so hard to buy. Kaiser is no doubt an asshole, albeit likable, all the time which makes his character more realistic. For these two good people to be asked to be heels just comes off as forced. It felt like they were putting more brain power into trying to have a zinger than into the game, which they had already locked up by the time the wheel stopped spinning. It's their first match and I believe that they can figure out the right balance and hope they do. But right now I will stand by my conclusion that their current character state is "Douchey" and not "Heel".

Couple things worth mentioning: 1. For the Laurence Fishburne question, Owen both answered and wrote "Laurey" Fishburne and got the point. Not sure if this was missed or an accepted answer. 2. For The Waterboy question, Ben was the only competitor who actually wrote the full title, which is "The Waterboy". I thought I heard on Schmoedown Backstage that the league was going to be harsher on giving the full answer this season, but that wasn't the case here, unless it wasn't necessary and i'm out of the loop.

I think it's okay to leave out articles like "The" in titles. Most people do when saying movie titles, and it doesn't really matter. I think they meant they'll be stricter with things like the subtitles for sequels need to be included, and not just saying "Whatever 2."

In that case it's important because they are two different movies but If there is only one waterboy/the waterboy, then they accept it with or without the the. For example, room and the room are two different movies so they wouldn't accept it either way

It's more of a one or the other thing than it is one is the more important factor. Vinnie, though he mispronounced the last name, still clearly knew what the answer was and should get the point. If he had written her name like how he pronounced it, "Puge", he probably doesn't get the point. Same with Rachel but flipped. She misspelled Pugh but still clearly knew what the answer was. They have to allow some variance within reason in the first round or else it becomes too much about who knows how to spell/pronounce everyone's name.

While I love Rachel and Ben, the Schmoedown is a competition and the same rules of sportsmanship apply here as well: You talk shit, you're going to get hit. The argument of "they were talking to us while we were answering" challenge never would have worked in any setting. Rachel and Ben took their eyes off the ball and while they avoided danger, the next time that happens they may not be so lucky. While the ruling of "Empire" was correct, I did like how Ben was alert enough to answer the full movie title before Kristian finished his countdown. Hopefully Ben and Rachel can work on their communication skills going forward. There's hope for them yet though.
