There are some minor mistakes in your video. Oyster Shells can never cause the PH to go up too high. Oyster shells will only dissolve on a PH around Ph 6 and lower. Once the Ph is at 7 or above, oyster shells will just sit there and will not be dissolved anymore. So you never have to take oyster shells out. Also the effect of oyster shells is very slow. So it will only reduce the risk for an too low PH and help slowing the process of PH drop down. Also the main cause of the dropping ph will not always be the nitrification process. Ph is always in a fixed ratio to carbonates and CO2. So a very low Ph may also be a result of a very high CO2 Level. In this situation adding carbonates will not be the right solution, but to reduce CO2 by degasing the water (f.e. by blowing more air into the water). Also the circumstances with Calcium and Potassium are not as easy. Potassium and Calcium compete against each other. Calcium and Potassium have to be on the same saturation in the water. If one is higher than the other, the other will fall out and a drastic deficiency will occoure. My solution to this problem is to raise the PH with CalciumHydroxide (as a Ca supplement) and do the potassium supplementation by spraying the leaves of the plants with KOH. It takes time to find out all the tiny bits. I run aquaponic systems for 16 years now and still find out new things. Now running a 100.000 Litre system and still an ongoing adventure.

This causes the calcium to become to high throwing off your Mag to P to Ca ratio and slowing and or hurting plant growth. You should be using potassium silicate and calcium carbonate alternating to raise pH as this address the biggest range of issues in aquaponics with out causing new nutrient problems. Leave the chemistry to the professionals.
